3 A Message from our Pastor Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, this is how the Gospels starts today, so it is fitting that I am away from Hollis this weekend taking a few days of rest and vacation upstate. (Although upstate is not my native place, I am from Far Rockaway Queens). It is important that everyone take time to vacate, to step back, to rest. In fact it is part of the commandment of God to honor the sabbath day and in Genesis God took the 7 th day as a day of rest. Know that I never rest from Prayer, from my ordination promises or from praising Jesus. I love the summer time, I love going to the beach, letting nature surround me, reading a book by the ocean, walking along the water, listening to God s creation sing its song around me. But I never ever take a vacation from God. It always saddens me that so many people stop coming to church during the summer. I say mass everyday, sometimes publicly, sometimes in a small chapel alone, I pray the Liturgy of the Hours everyday, I spend time before the Blessed Sacrament every day. I never vacation from God. I encourage everyone to use the summer time well, relax, take time to go outside, do events as a family, but also remember we have a 9am mass every weekend, the church is open for silent prayer every day, and Sunday is always the Lords Day, even when you are on vacation. I also encourage you come with your family to church on Sunday, to invite friends and family who have stopped going to church to join you, and to make receiving Jesus part of your holiday and relaxing down time. 4 OBSTACLES The prophet Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and the Lord Jesus share something in common in today s scripture readings. They all experience obstacles to their ministry. Ezekiel is summoned to prophesy to the Israelites, who are [h]ard of face and obstinate of heart (Ezekiel 2:4). Saint Paul recounts how he has been given a thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:7). The Lord Jesus is unable to perform many signs in his native place. The Gospel tells us that [he] was amazed at their lack of faith (Mark 6:6). We too sometimes encounter obstacles as we travel along the journey of faith. So often we experience weakness on this journey. 5 COMUNIDAD HISPANA 8 de julio de 2018 Decimocuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario MENSAJE DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO "Jesús partió de allí y vino a su lugar nativo" así es como los Evangelios empiezan hoy, así que es apropiado que estoy lejos de Hollis este fin de semana tomando unos días de descanso y actualización de vacaciones. (aunque el norte no es mi lugar nativo, soy de Far Rockaway Queens). Es importante que todos tomen tiempo para desalojar, para dar un paso atrás, para descansar. De hecho, es parte del mandamiento de Dios honrar el día de reposo y en Génesis Dios tomó el séptimo día como un día de descanso. Sé que nunca descanso de la oración, de mis promesas de ordenación o de alabar a Jesús. Me encanta el tiempo del verano, me encanta ir a la playa, dejar que la naturaleza me rodea, leer un libro junto al océano, caminar por el agua, escuchar la creación de Dios cantar su canción a mi alrededor. Pero nunca me tomo unas vacaciones de Dios. Siempre me entristece que tanta gente deje de venir a la iglesia durante el verano. Digo misa todos los días, a veces públicamente en algún momento en una pequeña capilla sola, rezo la liturgia de las horas diarias, paso tiempo antes del Santísimo Sacramento cada día. Nunca estoy de vacaciones de Dios. Animo a todos a usar el tiempo de verano bien, relájese, tómese el tiempo para salir, hacer eventos como una familia, pero también recordar que tenemos una Misa de 9am cada fin de semana, la iglesia está abierta para la oración silenciosa todos los días, y el domingo es siempre el día de los Lores, incluso cuando estás de vacaciones. También animo a que venga con su familia a la iglesia el domingo, para invitar a amigos y familiares que han parado de ir a la iglesia para unirse a usted, y para que la recepción de Jesús parte de sus vacaciones y relajarse tiempo. Pero, con la reforma del Concilio Vaticano II este pobre santo se quedó sin trabajo sólo por el hecho de no poder comprobar su existencia. No fue que la reforma del Concilio Vaticano II quisiera haber negado al pobre de Cristóbal ni a tantos otros santos que fueron quitados del Santoral Romano. Sólo buscaba hacer lugar para nuevos santos y beatos; y menos mal, porque eventualmente el Papa Juan Pablo II canonizó y beatificó a más de mil personas durante su pontificado. Muchos de estos santos no son tan bien conocidos como nuestro amigo san Cristóbal. Aunque ya no está en el calendario eclesiástico, Cristóbal continúa en los tableros de muchos carros ofreciendo su servicio de protección para los automovilistas. Esta chambita la consiguió porque ayudaba a cruzar el río a personas en camino, hasta que un día le tocó cargar con el niño Dios. Su nombre significa el que carga con Cristo y es un desafío a todos los que llevamos el nombre de cristiano. Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright OBSTÁCULOS El profeta Ezequiel, san Pablo y el Señor Jesús tienen algo en común en las lecturas de la Sagrada Escritura de hoy. Todos encontraron obstáculos en su ministerio. Ezequiel fue llamado para que profetizara a los israelitas, convertidos en un pueblo rebelde (Ezequiel 2:4). San Pablo relata cómo se le ha metido una espina clavada en mi carne (2 Corintios 12:7). El Señor Jesús no puede realizar demasiados milagros en su tierra natal. El Evangelio nos dice que estaba extrañado de la incredulidad de aquella gente (Marcos 6:6). Nosotros, también, algunas veces nos topamos con obstáculos al transitar el camino de la fe. Muchas veces en nuestro viaje nos sentimos débiles. Que las palabras del Señor a san Pablo nos animen hoy: Te basta mi gracia, porque mi poder se manifiesta en la debilidad (2 Corintios 12:9).
