CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES: As we already have a second collection on the first and second Sunday s of the month, the collection for Catholic Relief Services, dated for April 3, 2011, will not be collected until the weekend of the 17 th allowing for more emphasis on this worthy cause. LENTEN OFFERINGS: Stations of the Cross will be each Friday during Lent at 6:30 pm. A weekly 6:00 pm Mass will be celebrated each Wednesday during Lent. You are welcome to come to the church for private devotions or private stations. The church is open from 7:30am 3:30 pm Monday Friday.

3 COLUMBARIUM A request has been made to look into the possibility of building a Columbarium on the property of St. Patrick Church. The Columbarium and its maintenance would be paid for by the sell of vaults within the columbarium. If you would be interested in this possibility, please contact Fr. Vernon. 2nd Sunday of Lent: This Lent Jesus invites us to go up on a mountain, to spend extra time in prayer. Don t be afraid of what you might experience. Trust that God is leading you to greater understanding. (Matthew 17:1-9 ) Let us pray for those who are preparing for Baptism at Easter. (Vocation View is sponsored by the Serra Club.) FAITH FORMATION Classes are held in the FLC on Wednesday Nights from 6:30 pm- 7:45 pm for students, ages 5years to High School. The second grade class is preparing to celebrate First Communion on Sunday, May 15th, 2011 and the eighth grade will be Confirmed by Bishop Baker on Saturday, September, 24th, Please pray for these students as they continue to prepare for this part of their journey of Faith. "I WILL..." Faith Formation students made commitments last week on how they WILL follow the footsteps of Jesus during Lent as they prepare for Easter. Parents are asked to return the "coupons" sent home last week to help them keep their promise of prayer, fasting and alms giving. Our project will be completed April 13th. R.C.I.A ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: R.C.I.A. Class will meet this Tuesday. March 15th Everyone is invited to attend the R.C.I.A. THE SNOW WINNER IS... not going to be announced until we return from Spring Break this Wednesday, March 23rd!!! What a fun competition and learning experience!! BIBLE STUDY: Bible Study, will meet this Wednesday after the 6:00pm Mass. If you are interested in joining the group. Please contact Fr. Vernon. Faith Formation Classes resume Wednesday, March 23rd. MUSIC MATTERS REHEARSAL: Sunday, April 3rd at 8:30 am with Mass following at 10:00 a.m LOST AND FOUND: A table is set up in the St. Joseph Hall for Lost and Found items that have been collected. Any items not claimed by March 20th will be sent to the Catholic Center of Concern. 4 JMJ CATHOLIC WOMEN OF FAITH CONFERENCE: April 2, 2011, Take a break and Come Be Blessed. Join 1,000 women and speakers: Bob & Penny Lord, Sister Rosalind Moss, Jenn Giroux, and Concert by Satah Bauer! There are brochures in the narthex or check there website 40 DAYS FOR LIFE: This years campaign began March 9 th and goes through April 17 th. For more information on how you can participate please pick up a brochure from the narthex or go to MINI SERIES: Sister Jane Dominic will be speaking at John Carroll Catholic each night from March 23 March 27 th from 6:00 pm 7:30 pm. and her series is to be video taped for use of Aquinas College's Catechetical initiatives. This mini series on Life, Love, Family and Marriage incorporates Theology of the Body. Young adults and seasoned adults will be encouraged and edified. She has been asked by the Catholic Medical Association, educators and young adults to repeat her messages. There is no cost. Please come and enjoy any or all of her talks. See the bulletin board for the talk schedule and more information. SCRAP YARN NEEDED: Liz Smith is collecting yarn for a worthy cause. If you have left over yarn please bring it to the church office. PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR CHURCH CLEAN: Before leaving Mass please take a moment to be sure you have removed anything that should not be left in the pew, on the floor and under the pew. This includes paper, pen/pencils, baby items, Kleenex, food, coats/jackets, and other personal items. The cleanliness of our church is often the first impression non-members have of us as a community. Please be respectful of all of our facilities. ZUMBA is now offered every Monday and Thursday 6-7 pm. Come work toward getting heart healthy while you Zumba and fellowship with your friends! ST. FRANCIS XAVIER will hold their monthly bingo luncheon Thursday, March 24 th. Mass will begin at 11:00 am. Lunch will include chicken tetrazzini, vegetables, salad, rolls and Dessert. AVAILABLE PUBLICATIONS NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH: is a Catholic resource book that helps an individual compile, in one place, information needed by the family regarding the individuals medical treatment, finances, death and funeral. The book discusses many topics and gives valuable information to help the individual make decisions that will be helpful to them as well as their family. There are spaces within the book to record your decisions. These books are available from the church office for $5.00.

5 SCHOLARSHIP: St. Patrick Knights of Columbus Council is now accepting applications for the Louis N. Muro Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to attend a fouryear college or a junior college and who are active members of St. Patrick. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and must provide proof of completion of at least 25 service hours performed during junior and senior high school years. Applicants must also be willing to attend an interview session with designated members of Council You can pick up an application at the Church office or you can request one online by sending an with your request to knights@saintpatrickcc.com. SPIRIT SUNDAY! for Grades 6-12 is today (Sunday) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It's Open Gym Night, when you can enjoy games in the gym or upstairs in the SPIRIT Room. Dinner will be served, and we'll talk about upcoming events, including the 2011 Catholic Youth Rally, a huge event we're hosting right here at St. Patrick May 7. Bring a friend tonight! BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM PARTY is next Sunday, March 27, time TBA. Parents and families are invited to the awards ceremony, and then the team will enjoy fun and dinner after. A text message with details will be sent out this week, or you can call/text Kevin ( ) for information. It is very important for us to celebrate our accomplishments, and there were many. In some ways, these accomplishments far outweigh this year's win-loss record. Players, coaches, and families, we hope you'll all attend! We re looking for those who God has blessed with a talent of crafting. Be it quilting, knitting, crocheting, painting, woodworking etc Please drop off your items in the St Joseph Hall at the Springfest donation table. WRISTBANDS for the Children s Inflatables are on sale now for $10, which includes all-day-play PLUS free chips and a soft drink. Contact the church office to purchase. SPRINGFEST NEEDS YOU TO VOLUNTEER. All areas need volunteer workers the day of Springfest, even if only for a couple of hours. 6 SCRIPTURE REFLECTION Today, we hear about several disciples of Christ. Three of the apostles are described in the Gospel reading: Peter, James, and John. In his letter, Paul identifies Timothy as another follower. The Apostles in the miraculous story of the Transfiguration recognize Jesus as no ordinary human being. But only after Jesus death and Resurrection will they be able to fully profess their faith in him as Messiah. Jesus constantly reminded his disciples that the Messiah would suffer and die, sometimes to their fear and confusion. Jesus told them that following him in proclaiming God s message of peace and justice would lead to hardships and pain for them, also. Paul reminds Timothy of this: Bear your share of hardship for the gospel (2 Timothy 1:8). But the message to which all disciples can hold fast even in the midst of suffering and death is the one Jesus speaks to the apostles: Rise, and do not be afraid (Matthew 17:7). It is a message we, too, remind ourselves of this Lent. Life will come from death. Rise and Do Not Be Afraid Genesis 12:1 4a Psalm 33:4 5, 18 19, 20, 22 2 Timothy 1:8b 10 Matthew 17:1 9 SHARING FAITH Disciples often are on a journey with an end that seems unknown and uncertain. In response to our fear, Jesus offers peace. Where does Jesus offer you peace this Lent? The Responsorial Psalm says we place our trust in God. What does that mean for you? Paul tells us we are called to a holy life. What is your holy life? LIVING THE LITURGY In the Gospel, Jesus takes the apostles on a journey to a high mountain. It implies a place away from all the distractions confronting disciples in daily life. There, they had a profound experience of God. What would it mean for you to go to a place with few distractions? Can you find such a place for yourself this Lent? Read the story of Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 11:26 25:10). What promises does God make to Abraham over his lifetime? What does God ask of him and Sarah? What can we learn from their story of faithfulness? When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, Rise, and do not be afraid (Matthew17: 6 7). Can you think of anyone who, like Abraham, has left their home to follow a call from God? You might look to recent saints, such as Saint Damien of Molokai, or a missionary group like Maryknoll or lay volunteers with AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or a religiously affiliated group. 7 A SPECIAL THANK YOU! Thanks to everyone who came out last Saturday and spent their day working and cleaning around, and inside of, the Church and campus. Lenten Day of Service was once again a success with over 40 participants who gave up a beautiful Saturday to help clean and beautify the home of our Lord for the upcoming Easter celebration and for Springfest. A special thanks to Philip Troha for heading up this annual event and getting everyone s heart into it.?.. wondering why heart is in quotes? Just ask Philip or anyone who was there. Thanks also to the SPIRIT Youth for providing an opportunity for the adults of the parish to join them at their planned prayer service during the lunch hour. It was a great day of fellowship, hard work and fun. We look forward to next year s event and encourage all who are able to participate. HEALING MASS: A Mass of Anointing will be celebrated here at St. Patrick on Saturday April 9 th at 10:00 am. If you are in need of this sacrament of the sick please sign up in the narthex. APRIL 14, :30 PM Catechism of the Catholic Church CHAPTER TWO ARTICLE 4 THE SACRAMENT OFPENANCE AND RECONCILIATION "Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion." 4 I. What Is This Sacrament Called? It is called the sacrament of conversion because it makes sacramentally present Jesus' call to conversion, the first step in returning to the Father 5 from whom one has strayed by sin. It is called the sacrament of Penance, since it consecrates the Christian sinner's personal and ecclesial steps of conversion, penance, and satisfaction It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament. In a profound sense it is also a "confession" acknowledgment and praise of the holiness of God and of his mercy toward sinful man. It is called the sacrament of forgiveness, since by the priest's sacramental absolution God grants the penitent "pardon and peace." 6 It is called the sacrament of Reconciliation, because it imparts to the sinner the love of God who reconciles: "Be reconciled to God." 7 He who lives by God's merciful love is ready to respond to the Lord's call: "Go; first be reconciled to your brother." 8
