3 The Bethlehem Visitor September 2015 No Other Foundation! Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. And he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water." (Revelation 14:6-7) Dear brothers and sisters: The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46:7) The Lord of hosts is with us but are we with Him? Are we for Him? Revelation, chapter 14, tells of the vision God gave to Saint John, who saw an angel flying overhead, with an eternal Gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth. On Reformation Day, October 31 st, we remember how that eternal Gospel has been made our own in our time by the work of God's servant Martin Luther and the force of the Reformation. We are saved from sin and eternal death by God s grace alone (Sola Gratia); through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Sola Fide). And this amazing truth comes to us through Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura). There is no foundation on which to build our life other than Jesus Christ, crucified and risen. He has paid for every last one of our death-dealing sins with His blood. Every day is new and fresh in His forgiveness and mercy. Jesus has secured a place for us in heaven. Death, therefore, has lost its sting. Come celebrate the Reformation with your brothers and sisters in Christ, here at Bethlehem, at our services on October 24 th, 25 th and 28 th. Then join our sister congregations for our Sheboygan County Reformation Celebration, which takes place at the Stefanie Weill Center for the Performing Arts at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1 st. Our preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Larry Rast, President of Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana (Pastor Hartman's and my alma mater). The celebration will again feature the Sheboygan Lutheran High band, a brass ensemble, mass adult choir, and children's choir. Celebrate the fact that our salvation does not depend on our own good works. We could never do enough to earn our salvation. Our comfort and strength lies in the fact that Jesus has done enough for us and for every person on the planet. The benefits of His saving work are given to us as a pure, gracious gift -- through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Peace be with you! Pastor Alan Kubow
4 LWML NEWS LWML To Consider Speed Bumps in Life At the October 6th meeting of the Bethlehem LWML, attendees will re-visit a topic originally prepared by Pastor Hartman. But what do we do when our soul needs care? How do we cope with this hectic, messy, and complicated world? In this eight week study, you will sample twenty-eight different experiences that will help you draw upon the spiritual renewal that only the Holy Spirit offers. He will soothe your hurts and fill you with hope. He will nurture your soul with grace and mercy and peace. Beginning Tuesday, October 13 a NEW WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY will begin here at Bethlehem. We will meet in the Library from 6:30 7:30 p.m. We will NOT meet every week for this study but every other week. Won't you please join us? Like all other Bible Study's at Bethlehem, no one will ever be asked to answer anything or to read. This is your time to sit back, relax and take from the study what you want or to give to it what you want. Craft Fair applications are located in the Century Room or can be found at click on the church picture and go to Life at Bethlehem. STEWARDSHIP INFORMATION Think about this statement.. Joyful Response is just a way for Bethlehem to lock me into a commitment I am not ready to make. True or False? The answer is absolutely false. Joyful Response is available for two reasons. First, it can be used as a tool to help you be consistent with your giving decision regardless of your attendance. Second, it provides many of us with a convenience in our busy lives. At no time does participation lock you into anything. You can always make changes to the amount you return to your Lord. You are free to decrease or increase the amount or even stop the service. We hope you will make those changes as your routinely ask the question What is GOD calling Me to do? Picnic info
