Dobrzenski regarding the upcoming Priest Retirement Planning Seminar. If you have not received this information please see Addendum #1. Registrations forms are due by Tuesday, October 1, OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR Reverend Benedetto J.J. Paris COLLECTION FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE FOR THE MILITARY SERVICES, USA Last November, the diocesan Bishops approved the varium advanced by the Province of Denver to establish a national collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), USA every three years. The AMS takes care of those faithful from our diocese while they or an immediate family member are wearing the uniform. Upon retirement, the members of the military return to the care of the diocese. The goal of the AMS is to ensure that the military members return to us with a vibrant, renewed faith. This collection will aid the work of the AMS in many ways. In our diocese, the collection will be taken up during the weekend of November 10 (this is the date closest to November 11, Veterans Day). Please note that the collection will only be held once every three years; in subsequent years this collection will be listed as part of the Collection Schedule distributed every January. Further information will be forthcoming. MINISTRY PERSONNEL SERVICES Kevin Branson Faith Formation & Youth Ministry K-8 FAITH FORMATION CURRICULUM UPDATE The K-8 curriculum has been updated. The changes reflect formatting corrections; updates to the appendices on Bishops of Marquette and Popes; and the revisions necessary due to the publication of The Roman Missal: English translation according to the third typical edition. In addition, a Church history appendix has been added. The revision has been posted on the diocesan website under Catholic Living Faith Formation. The updates are dispersed throughout the document so please discard your original copies and use those posted on the website. If you would like the original cd that came with your

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY-SEPTEMBER 15, 2013 Open the Door of Faith is the theme for Catechetical Sunday which will be celebrated during the weekend of September 15, It is an opportunity to recognize and commission those in our parishes and Catholic schools who serve as catechists. It also provides a vehicle to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. The USSCB s Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis has prepared a variety of materials and resources to be used not only for this Sunday but throughout the year. They can be found as a free download at SAFE ENVIRONMENT VIRTUS AWARENESS SESSIONS The VIRTUS training sessions for employees and volunteers are scheduled. The listing can be found in Addendum #2 and is also posted on the Diocese of Marquette website. SAFE ENVIRONMENT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS The Volunteer and Church Personnel Criminal Background Check Authorization Form (CBC Form) has been revised. Please discard all previous forms and use only the 2013 form. This form is available on the Diocese of Marquette website under the Protecting Children button. SEE THE SEE JR HIGH YOUTH RALLY Registration and promotional information for See the See is available on the youth ministry webpage of the Diocese of Marquette website. If you have downloading or printing any of the information contact Greg Gostomski, Director of Youth Ministry, ggostomski@dioceseofmarquette.org ext. 125 or RITE OF ELECTION AND CALL TO CONTINUING CONVERSION The Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion is always the first Sunday in Lent, which in 2014 will be Sunday, March 9. Thus, the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion will be held on March 9, 2014 at St. Peter Cathedral. Mark your calendars now for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion, and inform any catechumens or candidates in your parish to mark this date on their calendars and to plan on attending. Admission to election belongs to the bishop, and the presiding celebrant for the Rite of Election is the bishop himself. Therefore, it is expected all catechumens and candidates to be present at the Cathedral for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion. This is an important opportunity for the catechumens

4 No. 8/2013 Page 4 of 8 and candidates to have an experience of the diocesan church and to realize they are among a large group of people on the same journey. Please direct any questions to Denise Foye, dfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org, (800) ext. 130, or (906) DIOCESAN CONFIRMATION The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at St. Peter Cathedral at 3:00 pm ET. This Confirmation Mass will be open to the entire Diocese and will be specifically celebrated for the following groups of people who have not yet been confirmed: 1. Youth who will be in the 11th or 12th grade during the school year; 2. Young adults in college who are seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation; 3. Those adults in our RCIA programs who have been baptized and raised Catholic, that is, people who have received both the Sacrament of Baptism and Holy Communion. Previously, Bishop Sample has granted faculties to confirm at the Easter Vigil those people who have been baptized and raised Catholic. Now, the Bishop, as the ordinary minister of the Sacrament of Confirmation, would like those who have been baptized and raised Catholic to come to the Cathedral so that he can confirm them. Please mark Sunday, May 4, 2014, on your parish calendars. If you have any questions, then please contact Denise Foye, Director of Faith Formation Coordinator, dfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org, (800) ext. 130 or (906) FAITH FORMATION COORDINATOR TRAINING-SAVE THE DATE!
