Today, we celebrate the Spirit of God that moves throughout God s people across all of creation. People: We are one in Christ. Leader: Today we remember our responsibility to bear with one another in love, to maintain unity by the bond of peace and to be the body of Christ in the world. People: We are one body. Leader: Today we recall that, as members of one body, we can make a difference in a world of people in need of the hope of the love of Christ. 4 Thrivent Event: Identity Theft Have you ever been a victim of Identity Theft, or do you know someone who has? As part of our finance committee educational quarterly series, we ve put together an hour session that will teach us some tips on how to protect ourselves from fraud and also hear about recovering from Identity theft. Come join us at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, for this event! We ll have the hour session in the sanctuary at St. James, followed by coffee and cookies in fellowship hall. This event is open to the public, so feel free to invite your friends and neighbors, too! Sign-up is on the Connection table, or feel free to just come join us. CROP Walk--Ending Hunger One Step at a Time We are quickly entering that time of the year when the leaves turn color and the air turns crisp. Those signs also remind us that it is once again time to prepare for the annual CROP walk. CROP is a project of Church World Service that was designed to spread awareness of and support those in need. Funds collected through this mission support hunger programs locally, nationally and internationally. Our local Fox Cities CROP Hunger Walk will be held on October 11 th. Our starting point is Memorial Presbyterian Church, 803 E. College Avenue, Appleton. Registration is at 12:30 with the Walk beginning at 1:00. 1, 3, and 6 mile routes are set up for those who wish to walk in solidarity with those who must walk everywhere they go. Those who walk will be asking for your financial support to fight hunger. If you wish to participate on our team, please contact me after Sept. 23 rd about getting your pledge envelope. Thanks! Henderson Settlement Mission Work Camp Trip, September 13 th, 2015 Every morning brightens as we wait for the morning fog and mist to burn off through the hills and valleys of Southwest Kentucky. After our daily morning devotions we head up the road for our morning breakfast. We finish breakfast and then start our daily projects. The fog is usually gone by the time we get on the other side of the mountain. Our work days start out cool, but by noon and the rest of the day it is warm and sunny. Some of us worked on campus projects sealing the community walking track and sealing the park shelter, some picnic tables and the long upper deck across the administration building. The rest of us provided a homeowner with a new kitchen. Finally after about 35 years she now has hot running water to the kitchen sink. At another location we installed a bathroom vanity, sink and faucet. It was about a.6 mile long driveway up and down along the side of a mountain. No snowplows here; the longest she waited last winter to get out was 3 weeks. Our work team would like to thank all those who contributed financially to make this mission trip possible. You helped us raise the $3,750 needed for the materials for the projects that we worked on. Not only did we get to meet and help two families in Kentucky, but we also had a great opportunity to get to know our team members and to become friends. Thanks again to all who supported our trip. 6 THE BAPTISMAL COVENANT INTRODUCTION TO THE SERVICE Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are incorporated into Christ s holy Church. We are incorporated into God s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God s gift, offered to us without price. PRESENTATION OF CANDIDATE Tyler and Darcie Lind are here to present Lucas John Lind for baptism. PROFESSION OF FAITH OF PARENTS Do you accept and affirm God s love for us as given in the gift of baptism and recognize the presence of God s grace in each newborn creation? Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? Do you profess Jesus Christ as God s full revelation to redeem and transform our lives? Do you put your whole trust in God s grace and promise to serve Christ in unity with the Church which God has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? Will you nurture Lucas in Christ s holy Church, that by your teaching and example he may be guided to accept God s grace for himself, to profess his faith openly, and to lead a Christian life?
