2 Notes from Pastor Hank Let me begin with a word of thanks for the warm and gracious way you have welcomed me and Bobbi into your midst. It is good to be here, to worship with you, to get to know you, to share with you in the ministry of the Gospel while Pastor Tim is on sabbatical. By the time you read this, Pastor Tim and his family will be traveling in Europe. Keep them in your prayers both for a safe journey and for a rich and rewarding experience. A number of Trinity folks have stopped into the church to visit since I began serving as your pastor on May 12th. If you are in the church neighborhood on a Tuesday or a Thursday, remember that my office door is always open and I would enjoy coffee and conversation with you. Things generally slow down a bit in the church during the summer, but there are two things that you can continue to count on - weekly worship grounded in the loving and empowering presence of God and pastoral care grounded in the healing and comforting love of God. Worship is a powerful resource for living the life of faith. The intentional encounter with God in worship enhances our ability to continue experiencing the guiding presence of God as we go about our daily lives throughout the week. And, if you hear something or experience something in worship that you want to talk about, don t hesitate to let me know. All too often, people of faith don t talk very much about their spiritual experience or spiritual questions, but I welcome such conversations - we have much to learn from each other about the things of faith. And if you are free on Thursdays at 10:00, stop into the church and join our study of the coming Sunday s scripture readings. It s a great give-andtake (with coffee and cookies) about what God is saying to us in the Bible. Finally, while I am here at Trinity, if you or someone you know is going through a difficult time - serious illness or injury, a death in the family, emotional or relational troubles - and a pastor s presence would be helpful, just let me know. No one in the community of faith need go through a difficult time alone. The church, its pastor and people will be there for you. May the summer months bring you joy and re-creation. Pastor Hank We are the ELCA We are the young and the old, We are ageless! We are people of all colors, We are colorless! We are the voices, We will not be silent! We are the people both lay and ordained, We are one in our Faith! We are diverse and unique, We are united in Christ! We agree and disagree, We are together in prayer! We are open and inviting to all, We are inclusive in our Love! We hear the cries of those in need, We are there with our love and support! We have been together for over 25 years, We are always being made New! We look forward in wonder, We will find new ways to serve our God and our Neighbor! We ARE the ELCA! Sunday School One of the most important things we do as a community of faith is the Christian education of our children and a vibrant Sunday school is at the heart of that education. Thanks to the leadership, love and commitment to kids of our Sunday School Superintendents - Corey and Lisa Greninger and Chris and Amy Nord - Trinity s Sunday School has flourished over the past five years. We owe them our deep gratitude. But now, it is time for them to pass the baton to a new leadership team. We are just entering June and I am sure Sunday School is off the radar, but before we know it September will be here and we need to be ready with that new leadership team. So, if you have a passion for kids and for growing their faith, you are needed. As soon as possible we would like to set up a new Sunday School Leadership Team for the coming church school year. Ideally, we would like four folks to work together so that no one individual has to shoulder all the responsibility for Sunday School. With four people sharing the responsibility, the load is light and easily carried. The four folks we are looking for can be couples or individuals, young adults, middle age or seniors, parents or grandparents or folks without kids who love kids. So think it over, pray about it, ask God if this is what you should be doing to help our kids grow in faith in the coming year and then talk to Cory, Lisa, Chris or Amy. They will be happy to answer any questions you might have and, should you decide to step up and answer the call to leadership, they will make sure you are well trained and ready to go when September rolls around. Stewardship Want to be a more effective Steward? Consider Simply Giving. What is Simply Giving? Simply put it is a means to have your offering debited directly from your bank account as you do with other monthly drafts. Trinity Lutheran offers electronic giving for those of you who wish to have your contributions transferred electronically to the church s account. Contact the church office for more details
4 Council President Report Greetings to Everyone: Pastor Bauer is now on Sabbatical until August, the summer worship schedule is in place and Pastor French is assuming pastoral duties. At the Church Council meeting this month, the most critical issue is having volunteers to coordinate youth Christian Education. Please pray about this and consider how you can participate in this core mission of our church. There are a number of different projects in various stages being worked on around the church. If you have a chance, thank those involved with maintaining and enhancing our Church property. As you are out and about this summer, invite your friends and neighbors to attend services here at Trinity. Give generously, the expenses of running the church don t stop just because it is summer, live faithfully and enjoy the summer. Mike Norberg, Council President Pastor Tim s Sabbatical Check out our website: trinitymilaca.org. Under the home tab click on Pastor Tim s Sabbatical, there you will see his most recent activities, photos, and their Travel Itinerary for Europe along with links to places they plan to visit. Trinity Lutheran Church Council Mike Norberg, Council President Bruce Espelien, Council Vice President Jennifer Tolzman, Council Secretary Council Members: Wendy Anderson, Cindy Brovold, RuthAnn Christianson, Mike Elbert, Debra Gilchrist, Corey Greninger, Pam Novak, Mark Skinner, Lana Talberg, Steve Voshell and John Youngberg If you have a question, concern or idea please feel free to talk with a Church Council member. Trinity Lutheran Church Women Another successful Syttende Mai Luncheon took place at Trinity on May 16th. And, the luncheon just didn t happen. Many hours of planning and cooking occurred prior to May 16th. Success can be measured in numbers and words. First, words. Many compliments and words of praise were given and overheard from visitors. From the meatballs to lefse to breads and delicacies, visitors filled their plates and ate in fine Norwegian style. This year groups of friends came from Mora, Princeton, and Foley. All toll, 167 tickets were sold, up from 137 last year. Also, Clarice Dagenais reported that an adequate number of people helped both on Thursday and on Friday, making meatballs, baking cookies, and setting tables. Five Trinity men also came in to help, doing dishes and cleaning up. A special thank you to each of you who helped in many ways: providing food, cooking food, setting up, taking down, and all the activities too numerous to mention. Thank you, thank you! Also, just so you know, the majority of funds that the TLCW receives are donated, both throughout the year and at Christmas to individuals or groups with specific needs. Audrey Batty will be TLC s delegate to the Summer Gathering in Duluth on June 13th and 14th. It is not too late to bring your knit prayer shawls and fabric pieces to the church for her to carry to the gathering. Have them at Trinity by June 10th. We are collecting clean, whole cotton or cottonblend fabric of the following yardage: 60 wide fabric - 2 1/4 yards; 44 wide fabric - 3 yards; 36 wide fabric - 4 yards (the pieces do not have to match in size, color or pattern. Patterns cannot be offensive, religious or patriotic.) Matching or neutral-colored thread in spools of yards each. Next meeting of TLCW is June 11th at 11:30 AM, after Bible Study. There are no meetings in July and August. Meetings will begin again on September 10th.
