At first, we work on special time(s) during a day to do: bible and devotional reading, praying, and meditation. That seems to be the goal, but according to Hudson and Bryant our spirituality should expand to our entire Continued on page 2 Inside this Issue: Chocolate & Canvas pg. 6 Church Camp Info pg. 3 Church Council News pg. 5 Henderson Settlement Trip pg. 6 Kids Hope pg. 3 Monthly Calendar pg. 8 Outfitters News pg. 6 Pastor s Note pg. 1 Special Events pg. 7 Vacation Bible School pg. 3 Wick s Pie Factory Tour pg. 6 Youth Illustrated pg. 4 June Special Events: June 3 Holy Communion June 4 Stephen Ministry June 6 Anita s Fundraiser June 6 United Methodist Women June 6-8 Indiana UMC Annual Conference- church offices closing at noon each day June 7 Walking Group Starts June 8-9 CREW Summer Bash June 10 Ice Cream Social for Missions June 13 Chocolate & Canvas June 15 Community Fish Fry June 18 Bob Evans Fundraiser June 18 Red Cross Blood Drive June 21--Wick s Pie Factory Tour June 23 CREW Destination Unknown June Senior High Camp Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World

2 THE LIGHTHOUSE PAGE 2 life by being intentional during all our waking hours. Spirituality (continued from page 1) Spirituality is a slippery word for those whose daily lives revolve around frantic timetables of getting children to school on time or holding down a stressful eight-to-five job, spirituality sounds strange and impractical. It suggests another world of inactivity, passivity, and uninterrupted silences. For those whose life experiences have been scarred by suffering and oppression, the term often suggests escapism, indifference, and uninvolvement. Indeed, spirituality needs definition. Spirituality is being intentional about the development of those convictions, attitudes, and actions through which the Christ-following life is shaped and given personal expression in our everyday lives. 4 THE LIGHTHOUSE PAGE 4 The month of May always proves to be a busy time in the lives of our students at Pendleton First. With end of the school year approaching, graduation, finals, awards programs, our students stay busy. Leading the student ministries at Pendleton First, part of my job is experiencing life with these students and walking with them on their journey. The month of May was a culmination of a 4 year experience where I was able and blessed to be a part of some pretty awesome group of students who will be graduating in June and moving on to the next chapter in their lives. An example of being a part of their lives outside of church was 2018 Prom. Prom is usually a pretty big deal and something we all remember about high school. I was able to go to Falls Park and see many of our students experience this special night by getting our pictures taken and sending them off for a fun night. For two of our youth groups: 4:12 Wednesday Night Group, and C.R.E.W., which meets on Sunday s, it was a bittersweet ending for both, as we said goodbye to a fine group of Seniors who each participated in their last youth group. We had Senior Night at C.R.E.W. on Sunday May 20th, and honored all of our seniors. We were able to show our seniors some love by getting them gifts and show them how much we appreciate, love and will miss them. They each shared something they learned and experienced in their faith with our younger students, some things our younger students could learn and take with them. It was a special night and our last official C.R.E.W. meeting of the school year. We will not meet on a regular basis in the summer, but we have some events and activities planned for our students who are in 7th-12th grade. On Saturday June 23rd and Sunday July 1st we will be hosting Destination Unknown where our students will meet at the church not knowing what will become of the evening (of course where we will be going and what we will be doing will be communicated with parents) and going on a fun outing or doing a service project. On June 24th-29th we will also be taking 5 of our middle school and high school students to church camp at Camp Epworth Forest in North Webster. Camp is always an awesome experience for our students. On Wednesday May 23rd, we had our last 4:12 meeting. 4:12 was an outreach youth group that met every Wednesday night that was started by Bob Case and Dave Ashmore. This was a safe place where students could come, be themselves, eat some pizza, play some games, and learn about Jesus! Due to our students being all upperclassmen and most being seniors, we decided that this would be our last 4:12 meeting at Pendleton First. We said goodbye to our seniors who, some, had been coming on Wednesday night for up to 5 years! I enjoyed hanging out with these students, getting to know them, and loving them to the point, where hopefully, they just came and felt loved! A special thank you to all of our volunteers who invested their time and energy into these students lives on Wednesday nights over the past 4-5 years. Our pre-teen youth ministry called Impact, met for the last time for the school year on Sunday May 20th. We had a pizza party and played some water games. Coming in August, Impact youth ministries will start meeting on Wednesday s instead of Sunday s. More information on the new look for Impact coming SOON. Impact Youth is for any students ages 4th -6th grade. God Bless! Dustin Tuesday Co-Op Group Every Tuesday throughout the school year we have a had a group of students from PHHS come to the church to learn job skills. During this time they have cleaned the atrium, mopped the coffee shop, washed windows, and organized the information in the pews. It has been a pleasure to get to know the students and leaders and we look forward to welcoming them back in August.
