1 TRINITY TOWER Welcome, Pastor Ann Fenlason! Pastor Ann s first day at Trinity will be Monday, October 15. We are excited for her to become a part of the Trinity family and to meet all of you. A note from Chuck Ritchie, member of the Call Committee and Trinity Council: We on the Call Committee are excited to welcome Ann Fenlason as our new Associate Pastor. The selection process was made considerably easier by the new strategic plan to guide us, and Pastor Ann s strengths match very well the qualities we are looking for, such as preaching, small group development and pastoral care. We were also blessed with Terrie Allen as our chairperson, who continues to serve this community so capably with her insights and leadership. A letter from Pastor Ann: I am excited about joining you as the new Associate Pastor of TLC! Here s a little bit about me and where I ve been: I grew up in Rochester, MN and the Twin Cities. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition from the University of Minnesota, as well as a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance and a Performer s Certificate from Indiana University. I taught applied flute at the University of Evansville (IN) and the Interlochen Arts Academy (MI) before embarking on a career in aviation. After achieving my various pilot ratings, I became a Certified Flight Instructor, eventually being hired by Skyway Airlines and later by Midwest Airlines (Milwaukee). With the downturn of the industry in 2008, I left aviation and for the next two years, I was a police/fire/911 dispatcher for the City of Oak Creek (WI). Holy Communion Sanctuary Choir October 28 Reformation Sunday Weekly Worship Guest Preacher: Justin Lind Sanctuary Choir Confirmation Worship 1:00 p.m. It was during my time as a dispatcher that I heard the call to become a pastor. I packed up everything and left Wisconsin, returned to Minnesota and enrolled in the four-year program at Luther Seminary in St. Paul. In May 2014, I received my Master of Divinity, and three months later, I was called to be a pastor at Bone Lake Lutheran Church in Luck, WI. Going from the city to the country required a bit of adjustment, but eventually I got used to the mice and bugs and the occasional black bear in the front yard. I put up bird feeders and discovered the hidden riches of God s creation in my back yard: bluebirds, indigo buntings, orioles, hummingbirds, pileated woodpeckers, scarlet tanagers, and turkeys. I even got chickadees and nuthatches to eat peanuts from my hand! I am overjoyed to return to the Twin Cities, which puts me closer to my family, and I am looking forward to working with Pastor Brian and getting to know all of you in the months and years ahead. Thank you for keeping me in your prayers, as I have been keeping you in mine. God s blessings! Pastor Ann Special thanks to our Call Committee! Thank you to Kari Newell, Ted Radintz, Stacey Royal, Chuck Ritchie, Steve Vanderboom, Pastor Brian and Terrie Allen for all their hard work these past few months.

The process is easy to set-up and maintain. Families can use an I Give Electronically laminated card to place it in the plate during the offering to show participation. We ll have lunch afterwards. Donations are needed to cover the cost of sandwich supplies (goal: $500). Make checks payable to the Trinitarians if able to contribute. Contact Bev Ebbecke at if interested. This month s Community Meal is Thursday, Oct. 25, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Calvin Presbyterian. Come for a delicious meal and connect with others. Alternative worship at Trinity: As a result of the Strategic Planning survey, Trinity is in the early stages of developing an alternative worship service. What, when, where and how are still to be determined. While we know our current worship is rated very favorably, we are always looking at new ways to reach more people. Please consider being part of an Alternative Worship Forum to explore what an added worship can be. More details to come in November. Please speak with Mark if you have any questions on this topic. Things to consider: What have I experienced at other worship services that spoke to me? How can worship bring me closer to God? What are the key elements that are a must in worship? When would be a better worship time for me to be a regular attendee? Follow the Son: A Worship Concert will be presented Sunday, Nov. 4 during both the 8:30 & 10:30 worship services, featuring the Sanctuary Choir, Trinity Orchestra, Joyful Noise, Youth Choir and guest soloists. Mission Trip Sunday is Oct. 14. Learn about next year s mission trips and camp weeks for families, middle and high school, and outreach ministries. Support Union Gospel Mission s Heart for Hunger campaign: Thrivent Financial is teaming up with Union Gospel Mission once again to provide meals for families in need this Thanksgiving. Help them reach the goal of 60,000 meals with a free-will donation during donuts and refreshments on Sunday, Oct. 28. If you can t make it on the 28th and would still like to contribute, checks can be made out to Union Gospel Mission with Heart for Hunger in the memo line. Thank you. All Thrivent members have two Action Teams to use throughout the year, each worth $250 of seed money to use in the community for doing good. If you have an Action Team you are not using, we can help! Please contact Jill Cornell or Linda Koltes, and we will match you up with a request. New flagpole in memory of Earl Swanson and all veterans: You may notice a new addition to Trinity s landscape! This new flagpole was given by Dee Swanson and Earl s daughters as part of Earl s memorial donations. Earl was a World War II Navy Veteran. We are proud of all of Earl s contributions at Trinity. He was a long-time member of the Property Committee, a faithful usher and offering counter. We miss him dearly, but we take solace in seeing the flag fly proudly on County Road 6. The Tower is going digital in January! In an effort to be good stewards of Trinity s resources, we will be making the switch to an electronic Tower beginning with the January edition. After the switch, you will receive the Tower via on the first day of each month. If you would like to continue getting a print version by mail instead, or to check if we have the correct on file, please call the church office at , visit the Sign Up Center at church, or Kelsey at KelseyA@trinitylonglake.org. 5

We will have four families staying with us during the week. Please pray for these families as they work toward stability and a place to call home. Seeds of Hope Sponsorship By Oct. 1, we hope to know which existing sponsors will be renewing their sponsorships and who is willing to cosponsor with another member. We have been sponsoring students since 2012 and many students are now reaching HS or university level, which is an increased cost. We also have requests for younger students to enter the program. We see firsthand during our summer trips how education is providing opportunities and bringing hope to the communities. 7 THANK YOU to all the Trinity members who came out to the Walk for Water and/or donated money for Water Mission. 48 people from Trinity walked on Saturday, Sept. 15 for Water Mission s Walk for Water event at the Upper Landing Park in St. Paul. $13, was raised by Trinity members to support this cause that raises awareness of the global water crisis. There were about 600 total walkers with almost $150,000 raised. Each walker carried an empty bucket for 1.5 miles to a pool with dirty water. They filled their bucket and walked back 1.5 miles to the Water Mission filtration system. The walk is symbolic of the walk that women and children make every single day to collect unsafe water. Where does the money go? Donations received for the Walk for Water will support Water Mission's response to the global water crisis through sustainable safe water and sanitation solutions around the world. The funds raised help provide the materials and equipment and support the people who install the equipment in the geographical areas of need. Water Mission also trains staff who educate communities on effective sanitation and hygiene to keep people clean and free from disease.
