Walther (Please listen quietly to the prelude as the community prepares for worship) INTROIT & POURING OF BAPTISMAL WATER CALL TO WORSHIP see insert + HYMN #260 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God EIN FESTE BURG (+ Those who are able are invited to stand) WELCOME PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in silent reflection, then together) Loving God, please forgive us for all the ways that we separate ourselves from you and from one another. You have heaped blessings upon us, yet too often we are ungrateful. We grumble, we complain, sometimes we flee, choosing our own path while avoiding your guidance. We prefer the anxiety we feel in our weakness to the confidence we might find in your power. In your mercy, forgive us, Lord. Restore t0 us the joyful confidence of those who belong to you. Help us to live generously in your strength in the forgiveness and the freedom that you offer us. In the name of the one above all, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS +A DOXOLOGY From All That Dwell below the Skies LASST UNS ERFREUEN From all that dwell below the skies, Let the Creator s praise arise Alleluia! Alleluia! 4 ALL SAINTS / ALL SOULS DAY: On Sunday, November 4th, we will celebrate All Saints / All Souls Day with a candle-lighting ceremony for those who have gone before us. We would like to encourage people to bring photos of those they wish to honor in memoriam. If you cannot attend, please feel free to Pastor Scott Leonard (srleonard@roadrunner.com) with names of those you would like us to remember as a community of faith. COUNTRY PANTRY UPDATE: Country Pantry is getting ready for the holidays. Stuffing, cranberry sauce, applesauce, yams & gravy packages are needed. Any questions please see Judy LaGasse. Also, donating pet food would be a great help! For Christmas: kitchen towels, bath towels, hand towels and washcloths (new). $5 gift cards for children from Five Below, blankets (new) as well as food. BLANKET & TOOL CAMPAIGN: Some 8,000 congregations and groups across the U.S. hold Blankets Plus events in order to assist Church World Service in this program which provides blankets, tents, food and other emergency supplies in the wake of a disaster; supplies tools and seeds to refugees; builds safe wells for communities in drought prone areas; and creates literacy training and microcredit for women. Please generously support these programs by donating to our Blankets Plus campaign. Contributions can be clearly marked Blankets Plus and put in the collection plate or be mailed to the church office. If you have any questions, please see Mary Ann Stiefvater. STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN: Consecration Sunday has arrived. Our 2018 Stewardship campaign has been based on Psalm 139, verse 1: You have searched me Lord, and you know me. Designed to help each of us to consider our relationship to God who created us and to Stone Church where we listen, learn, pray and worship, this series culminates today in our opportunity to offer our pledges to Stone Church for the year. Our joyful giving, and accompanying pledges to labor towards a better world, is a way to show our appreciation and gratitude for everlasting love and care. Immediately following this service, we will have our special Consecration in the Norton room. All are invited to join us for this special and festive occasion. FAIR TRADE SHOP We re coming into the season when warm, fresh bread will taste great with our fall comfort foods. A bread warmer is a popular gift item. Our whitewashed terra cotta stone (from Bangladesh) is deeply incised with a nature-inspired design and sits within a hand woven kaisa grass basket with palm wrap and is oven safe. These and many, many more unique handmade items from 38 different countries are available at our Fair Trade Shop, Stone Presbyterian Church, 8 So. Park Row, Clinton. Purchasing fair trade items ensures artisans and small farmers fair wages and healthy working conditions, providing dignity, sustainable development and hope to marginalize people. The entrance to our shop is on Williams Street. Our hours are every Thursday from 10am to 6:30pm and second Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. For more information, contact Lauralyn Kolb, lkolb@hamilton.edu, , visit our website at or like us on Facebook at HOPE HOUSE WISH LIST: This month s wish list includes the following: Deodorant, Shaving Cream, Razors, Granulated Garlic, Coffee/Tea, Sugar, Cereal, & Milk Money. Any donation that you designate for food or personal needs will greatly be appreciated. If you have questions, contact Ceil Gilbert ( ) or ceilgilbert@yahoo.com. THE CLINTON FINE ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL: Will be held November 3 rd & 4 th at the Clinton High School. The hours are 10 5 on Saturday and 10 4 on Sunday. It is sponsored by the Kirkland PBA and all proceeds go back to the school and community. RISE AGAINST HUNGER: On Saturday, September 29 th the community came together at the Clinton High School gymnasium and led by Olivia from Rise Against Hunger we packed 40,000 meals in less than four hours over two shifts! Teams filled, sealed, and packed over 6,600 bags with soy, dried vegetables, rice, and a vitamin packet. $14,000 was raised for the meals. Stone Church participated in raising $1800 and providing a packing crew for each shift. Pastor Scott Leonard ran his crews hard because he said, Fun is packing more food faster than anyone else! (Perhaps not the most pastoral sentiment though they did!) Thanks to Mary Chamberlain, Bev Miller, Emily Hughes, and Grace Whittemore, on the first shift and Lauralyn Kolb, Pat Joseph, and Ceil Gilbert on the second shift! Find more on the story with pics in November s newsletter.
