I presented it to the Mission Committee, and they agreed to accept the challenge. This challenge had a deadline of September 1, so we really had to get moving to present this to our congregation. Our plan: Pastor Don Winters agreed to present the challenge on Sunday morning at both services. The committee would supply bottled water between services which the congregation could obtain and make an offering. On Sunday morning, the committee set up a table in the fellowship hall with Clean Water Project information. A pot was filled with bottled water representing the way some people have to gather their water. The Rest of the Story: Pastor Don Winters presented the challenge by asking the congregation if they had ever been so thirsty that they needed a cool drink of water. Upon entering their home, they find that the tap is dry. They then go to the local stream or river to fill their pot with water and find little wiggly things swimming in it. Then they place the pot on their head to carry it back home which could be 100 yards or as much as 3-6 miles. This illustration touched the hearts of everyone at KMC. We collected $2,145, nearly double the challenged amount of $1,100. The following Sunday Pastor Don Winters challenged the congregation a second time to raise the additional amount of $480 needed for a second well. The congregation responded with an awesome amount exceeding $1,500! Once again our congregation responded generously, and it looked like we would be able to purchase a second well. However, when we finally counted all the donations that were received, the final amount was over $7,000. This amount will be presented to Chuck Nienow and Esther Tesh who are serving as the Clean Water Project Coordinators E:mail nienowtesh@aol.com. Now that is what I call awesome. Kernersville Moravian Church will now be purchasing three wells for the Clean Water Project. A fire was surely stirring among our membership, showing the work of the Divine Holy Spirit of God in the lives of the members of Kernersville Moravian Church. If you could have only seen how the donations were just coming in, it was unbelievable. It was truly amazing how God moved among the congregation. I was sitting in church and a member handed me a check. I was attending a church social and another member walked up to me and handed me a check. Our total kept changing on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. This project has been such a wonderful experience for me, and I saw how God moves within each of us. I am so proud of our congregation, not only for this project, but for the way they support our mission projects throughout the year. Joseph Del Guercio Chairman, Kernersville Moravian Mission Committee In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said,, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35

2 Community Response: Grenada Moravian Church On the day of September, 7th 2004, Grenada was devastated by hurricane Ivan which left the people of Grenada crying out for deliverance, forgiveness and direction. A team of missionaries from the Tobago Moravian church came to visit the island. The Moravians were moved with com-passion on seeing the country so devastated and con-tinued vis-iting on a yearly ba-sis. In 2007 they hosted Vacation Bible School which followed with open air services, Christmas fair, smile Grenada and the birth of a bible study group. The Moravians are a wonderful family of God and have really reached out to the people of Grenada. The Moravian mission wants to see us walk with Jesus and hold on to our faith. Our hearts are rejoicing to see the good work that God has started in our community. In an Open Air service, I felt the touch of the Holy Spirit and decided to get baptized. Sr. Kathleen Celestine and I got baptized on May, 28th This was a stepping stone to the great things that God is doing within us. Our fellow Moravians started a monthly weekend visit for bible study and Sunday worship, and even when they were not there we continued having our regular worship every Sunday. Encountering the Moravians gave me the zeal to spread the good news to others and see our commu-nity transformed and renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit. My constant prayer was that God provide a church where we can worship in spirit and in truth. God has answered our prayers, I am overwhelmed to see the wonderful church that God has erected in our com-munity. With this church in our community, I know many more will be called to repentance, and so may the grace and peace of Almighty God be ours in full abundance, through the knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.

3 Ministry in Labrador Page 3 It is almost August now and yes, there is still snow easily seen in the mountains and fiord's of coastal Labrador. The spring made way for summer. I'm sure we've had 4 days of hot weather so far - but every evening as the sun is setting, God seems to promise another day ahead rich in love. The sunsets are magnificent and unique each evening. We live across from the Churchill River, which shows off reds, yellows, and oranges against a mountain silhouette. Ministry has been equally rich and yet challenging at times meeting new people, praying with people, bringing comfort following some very difficult circumstances. George's soccer training sessions with the community youth have made him sort of a celebrity. Youth stopping to speak to him in the streets and grocery store. The kids have so much fun training with him, I would like to sign up too. He's busy helping a parent/coach begin a "munchkins" league (George's words). George is also working hard this month directing the Labrador Christian Youth Camp. He s into his 3rd week now and climaxing with the teen wilderness camp in August. Counselors and campers alike have enjoyed the swimming, canoeing, and the wonder of seeing God's creation in a new way with a program called "Abide in Me." United in marriage after 23 years together The manse is under construction, and the church roof is almost completely replaced - these major projects have been an opportunity for the congregation to come together. Two weeks ago the Moravian Music Festival was held in coastal Makkovik. Youth from 3 communities arrived, held workshops, and a beautiful concert of all generations was presented. One of the highlights was "Shine Jesus Shine" with the Inuit drums playing. The kids were a treasure to watch bloom before your eyes. God continues to nurture these people; grieving with them through this long stream of suicides. This crisis time has an impact on all. Thank you for your prayers for these beloved people. We're looking forward to arriving in NC next week for our daughter's wedding. What a joy and privilege it will be to share the past brief 6 months at the Calvary Moravian Mission Lovefeast. Jim & Hank Andersen from Makkovik We are deeply grateful for your prayers and support. You are an integral part of this ministry for which we are so thankful. Your gifts in ministry and your words are an inspiration to me. With the love of Jesus Grace and peace. George and The Rev. Glenna Tasedan Happy Valley/Goose Bay, Labrador

Growing under the Son Plant a seed Meet a need Youth, aged 12 through Senior High had an opportunity once again this year to participate in the Moravian Local Mission Camp in the Winston-Salem area. 6 KONNOAK HILLS MISSION TEAM from the Open Door Newsletter page 6 Wow! Another Mission Camp has come and sadly gone, and what a camp it was! Full of new people and new projects, everyone was in for a great week. Group 1 (Jessi Wilson, Kate Rights, Isaac Mullen, Nick Shouse, Anna Mullen, Brandon Sullivan, Bud Jones, and Martha Johnson) built a staircase up an incredibly steep hill for two elderly sisters who couldn t walk up and down it easily. They are two of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet, and they enjoyed our youth group being there helping them out and listening to the endless amount of stories they tell. Group 2 (Shane Sullivan, Alex Shouse, Adrianna Craver, Morgan Pegram, Anna Rights, Kylie Jarvis, Debbie Hartle, and Merle Lemon) painted an elderly woman s porch and windows, cleaned her windows, and put insulation around the outside of the house. She was a nice lady, and though she didn t interact with us as much as I had hoped, you could tell she was very grateful once she saw the finished product. I have to say, though, you can easily get tired of the smell of paint. It was worth to to see how much better the housed looked upon completion. We were all proud of what we had accomplished this week. We grew closer to each other and to God. There were times when the weather wouldn t cooperate with us, and we couldn t cooperate with each other. Overall, I think everyone would agree it was a good week full of laughter, love, card games, songs, canoe races, worship, and most importantly, the presence of God. Thank you Konnoak Hills for giving us the opportunity to have such a wonderful experience like this for another year. I know I speak for the whole youth group when I say that this has been an experience we are not likely to forget. Harvest Reaped from Old Salem Community Garden You may have noticed some tomato plants, cucumbers, squash, green beans and egg plants taking off on the land behind the Belo house and God s Acre here in Old Salem. These gardens were the result of our conversations at the Inter-Synodal conference in April of 2008, when we convened at New Philadelphia Moravian to do some asset mapping of the Southern Province at the Inter-Synodal conference when. You may remember that land came up more than once, as we explored what gifts God has given the Moravian Southern Province. We haven t forgotten God s invitation to dig into the earth, plant seeds and share the treasures she bears! On June 28 th some of us, from various Moravian congregations, who had felt called to continue the ministry started by our Salem sisters and brothers centuries ago, met on the corner of Church and Bank Streets in Old Salem to prepare and plant an organic garden on the property owned by the Salem Congregation. We hope to: Promote and teach sustainable gardening practices and stewardship of God s gifts. Provide opportunities for fellowship, friendship and stewardship among the congregations of the Moravian churches and Salem Academy and College. Encourage interaction between generations where knowledge can be shared, between one generation and another. Provide fresh produce grown without pesticides to Sunnyside and any other ministries in need. Design resources for children, youth and their families so that we might learn the lessons the garden teaches us and follow the Way of Christ through his parables and the Christian faith practices of Sabbath rest, gleaning, simplicity, generosity and hospitality. So far we have delivered produce to Sunnyside Ministry three times a week and they are very happy about that! If you would like to join us we are working in the garden every Tuesday from 6:00 til dusk. Just bring yourself and your garden tools. An exciting Children and Family Rally is scheduled on 10/01/10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Garden for pumpkin carving and learning about All Hallows Even. Lisa Mullen, Director of Children and Family Ministry, Board of Christian Education, SP

7 Prayers for page 7 NEPAL We hope you are well. Here is our prayer updates and thank you all for your continuous prayer and support. Please pray for: - The upcoming Moravian Mission Trip to Nepal. They are almost ready to travel and be with us for 15 days, teaching, preaching and being with the community. Pray for their Indian Visas to be processed soon. - Up coming baptism service on Sept 19th. - Nepal and the political situation. - Brother Nagendra s blood sugar and for his healing. - Sister Kamaleswori (wife of bro Nagendra), along with her mother, have gone to East Nepal to do a two days teaching and preaching from the Word of God among the Methodist women. - Nahum for his tooth that needs to come out properly so that he can get his braces. - Country of Nepal, as it is entering into a season of Hindu festival and people are preparing for a major celebration lasing about about a month. Please pray that in all of these, they may seek the truth and peace. May they know the love of Christ through the lives and work of the Christian church. - Goldunga fellowship which is held in a school (St Joseph s school), where we are beginning to encounter some resistance from some of the teachers and parents. Please pray that we can continue to share the Word of God and love among these people. Your brother and sister in Christ, Shanti & Vani Pradhan, Nepal M FAMILY MONTHLY July-Aug 2010 July A week was spent in Africa doing technical support and working on a voice modification project. Why is this important? The actors who have lent their voices for Scripture products often do not want their voices to be identifiable. Being publicly identified as a Christian believer can have serious consequences for these brothers and sisters. August In a 10 day conference in Spain, support was given the translation teams through help with technology. Two of the children stayed with the grandparents. What a blessing this time with family was for the kids! How You Can Pray For the work with the projects that need voice modification. For those who are suffering increasing persecution because of their faith, especially those who are enduring this for the sake of spreading the Good News. For Mom as she continues several days of single parenting in the coming months. For wisdom as we ask the Lord to direct our work and family.
