1 O N W A R D M O R A V I A N M I S S I O N S P U B L I S H E D B Y T H E M I S S I O N S O C I E T Y, S O U T H E R N P R O V I N C E M A R C H V O L U M E X X X I V I S S U E 2 Translation Project Supports People of Magi Land Missionaries in Magi Land are hoping to provide the people a Christian resource, Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ, in their own language. Of course, funds are needed to ensure that this project is successful. The following is a breakdown of what is needed to put the Christian beliefs in a form understood by the people: Translation and printing of Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ by John Piper into the Magi language. The Magi believers are in great need of quality Christian resources, and I believe Piper's writing to be top quality. This is an excellent short book on the excellencies of Christ and would be very useful to the local believers who can read and digest such material. ( It also mentions Count Zinzendorf and the Moravians, by the way! ) I have already obtained permission to translate and print the book, and have a translator ready. Here is the breakdown of costs: $200- permission from publisher, $500- translation costs, $3300- cost to print 2000 copies. TOTAL= $ A second project is providing solar-powered digital audio players for Magi people who may not read and learn by hearing the Christian message in story form. These needs are described below: The purchase of 200 MegaVoice StoryTeller audio players. We have been given 50 of these players already, and they have proven to be very useful ( in testing ) with the illiterate. Now that we have finished the recording of the stories, we are ready to do distribution, and these audio players will be very helpful, and we are hoping to give them away to shepherds and other villagers. You can read more about them here: We have been quoted a price of $12.95 for each player, so 200 players would be around $2600. We've seen the Lord open multiple doors in the 7 different Greek organizations on campus, so we have been following his lead to pioneer new ground and bring the gospel into this very unreached subculture on campus. The below flyer represented the advertising for our first ever Greek Connect at Wingate University! Winter Blast begins TODAY! TODAY, we are traveling with 70 students from Wingate to gather with close to 300 others in Asheville, NC for a 2 -night, 3-day retreat. Every year we consistently see students come to faith on this retreat, and our older students have opportunities to grow and develop into more mature spiritual leaders. 3 Page 3 1Pp CLEMSON GREEK UPDATE Snow Did Not Stop God at GCXIV!I In spite of the biggest snow/winter weather storm this region has seen in years (informally known as "Snowpocalypse" among students and staff), Greek Conference 2014 still happened, and God showed up once again in a mighty way! While some of the conference banners and other "glitz" got stuck in the mail, staff and students still showed up prayerfully expectant to connect with God, to learn to lead and be equipped to make a difference in their fraternities and sororities and the world...and God answered that prayer! One of the highlights again this year was our Clemson "campus time" on Saturday night where we circled up (in a BIG circle!) and students shared how God was working in their lives over the weekend: Of the 65 Clemson students who attended: 30 students made first-time or re-commitments to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord! 27 students committed to getting more involved in Greek IV and reaching out back on campus 4 students committed to continuing to ask questions about faith and spirituality And of course, each of the numbers above represents a student whom God loves and who has their own unique story. Check out this quote from one of those students, a junior fraternity guy, who had a life-changing weekend at Greek Conference: "Greek Conference was one of the best experiences of my life. I came into the weekend with questions and left with a purpose...i came in a person without a personal relationship with Christ and left a Christian firm in his faith." Concerning the life there, travelling and also my work. I would like to start with the work. I was busy mostly at weekends.

Since the beginning I worked with the kids from Cruz de la Esperanza, and only the last two Sundays I was in Peru, the Rhemamente group started also working with children.

So we were either making cotton bracelets, or playing with homemade playdough, once we did a theater sketch based on a story I told them, or we did something from the plastic bottles

She shares some of her experiences from her blog below: Although I am back home from Peru I still have many things to tell you about my stay in Peru. Concerning the life there, travelling and also my work. I would like to start with the work. I was busy mostly at weekends. Some meetings, services, and on Sunday - work with children. Since the beginning I worked with the kids from Cruz de la Esperanza, and only the last two Sundays I was in Peru, the Rhemamente group started also working with children. In Cruz de la Esperanza, my duty was to tell a story to the kids and create some activity for them. So we were either making cotton bracelets, or playing with homemade playdough, once we did a theater sketch based on a story I told them, or we did something from the plastic bottles :) the kids liked it and the last Sunday I was there, many new kids came because they heard there was something interesting happening :) With the kids from Cruz de la Esperanza we climbed all the way up to the statue of Crist. It was my last Sunday there and I really enjoyed the view and being with the kids. I had more time to make a connection with them. The next day, we made a trip to the river and enjoyed it a lot. The first time they had just one kid but the next Sunday, when I was there, 9 kids came! That was great! :) And the kids looked really happy to be there. I was really sad not being able to stay longer and see how the work there grows and help more. But I know that next time that I come, there will be a bunch of kids I will be able to work with and make some connection :) Apart from the work with the kids I had the chance to preach to the adults or share testimonies. Many times, they just told me to stand up and say something without telling me in advance. So that was a challenge for me to improvise, to always be prepared to share and speak in a foreign language. But that was great! I think I need challenges (like that). They don't really thought about how I felt about speaking in Spanish. They just told me - can you pray, close this meeting, say a testimony, or sometimes even - can you play and sing something to us? And I thing I really needed that. That trust that I could do that and it wasn't a big dea. If they thought my Spanish would be a problem and then they would leave me just sit there, I wouldn't acomplish anything or learn something new. So I am really glad for that opportunity :)

7 Peru Experience Page 7 As always, it took me a month and a half to realize that I am almost leaving and I haven't seen so many places in Peru. And so I decided to make the most of my last days. And although I feel so busy the last days, I am really enjoying it :) Everybody says that Piura is so hot! Well, it was hot there. They say that it's 2-3 C warmer than in Lambayeque. That doesn't sound so bad but with the sun so strong, one is just looking to find a shadow :) Otherwise, Piura seems quite similar to Chiclayo. It has it's main square called Plaza de Armas, that you can actually find in any other city in Peru. You can recognize it very easily - there would be a church, the square would be a park, and you would also find a city hall there. Maybe there are more signs to recognize it but this is what I found. We went for a walk in Piura in the evening when it wasn't that hot anymore. It was very nice, we ate Pollo a la Brasa (some kind of grilled chicken) and just relaxed :) But I can't forget the place we visited in the afternoon. It's a town about 15 minutes from Piura called Catacaos. It's famous mostly for it's craftsmanship. There are many shops and stalls with many different products. You can find gold or silver jewellery, wooden toys, spoons, instruments, loads of handmade hats or leather shoes, bags, wallets, some strange hardware toys, and much more. I liked it a lot and as a true tourist, I started buying stuff to bring home. So I am really happy to have been there :) I liked the hats a lot and the leather stuff but it was a bit more expensive, although maybe if I thought in the czech money and not peruvian, it wouldn't seem so. But also I didn't bring that much money with me so that kinda saved me from spending :D What surprised me were the wooden toys that were way too similar to the czech wooden toys that we are so proud of. It's really interesting how can we have something in common although being so different :) We stayed in Piura overnight because they have two rooms above the restaurant to stay if anybody needs, and on Wednesday we went to the beach :) The nearest beach to Piura is 45 minutes ride but if you want to enjoy truly nice beach that is very touristic, go to Máncora. Beaches in Máncora are very famous. However, to go to Máncora, you have to save up more time. It might be 2-3 hour ride. Here they consider 3 hour ride a place nearby and that always makes me smile.
