5 JAZZ ENSEMBLE Willie Sordillo, alto saxophone From Singapore and Hawaii to major music festivals across North America, Willie s music has taken him around the world. As co-leader of the band, Flor de Caña, he is a three-time Boston Music Award winner, and one of his albums became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Magazine World Music list. Willie is also musical director of the weekly jazz worship service at Old South Church on Copley Square, Boston. Rebecca Shrimpton, vocalist Acclaimed as a simply exquisite vocalist, Rebecca has been praised by Britain s Jazzwise magazine, All Music Guide, and All About Jazz and featured on NPR/PBS concert broadcasts. She performs and records with various bands, including the 19-piece Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra, and is Assistant Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music. Also a classical mezzo soprano, Rebecca is soprano section leader for First Parish s choir. Thomas Hebb, bass Thomas is one of Boston's first call bassists, performing internationally, including tours of Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. His diverse career covers a spectrum of performances from Robert Palmer, Martha and the Vandellas to Dick Hyman and Herb Pomeroy. Thomas is also an accomplished classical flutist and sings R&B, jazz and blues. Phil McGowan, drums Phil can be found throughout greater Boston playing with top jazz musicians, including Bruce Gertz, Marshall Wood, Billy Pierce, Greg Hopkins, Russ Hoffmann, and Ted Casher, among others. Phil holds a Music Performance Degree in Percussion from the University of Southern Maine and was a student of Les Harris. He is leader of the Phil McGowan Trio and the 8-piece dance band, The East Enders.

6 John Baboian, guitar John is a professor at Berklee College of Music. His performances include concerts, clubs, recordings, radio, and television throughout the world with Frankie Avalon, Ben Vereen, Phil Wilson, and many others. He has recent recordings with the Boston Big Band, the World Leaders, the Black Sea Salsa Band, and a host of vocalists from the New England area. He released The Be-Bop Guitars and More! (2000) and Freshly Painted Blues (2007). Brian Price, tenor sax, bass clarinet, clarinet Brian grew up attending the First Parish Church with his family. He began playing music with his father and in the Beverly public school system; also studying with Leonard Hochman. As part of the Lost and Wandering Blues and Jazz Band he has toured through the US, France, and Italy. He has performed in the US and Germany with New Yorkbased musician Cooper-Moore, and is a member of the new Cooper- Moore Trio along with Pascal Niggenkemper. WALK WITH GOD Join us this afternoon for a Walk with God: The Vital Preacher Newburyport at 2:00 p.m. What is Vital Preaching? This year s Walk with God hopes to answer that question. Old South Church Federal Street in Newburyport, Massachusetts was chosen for our Walk with God this year to mark the 300 th anniversary of the birth of Rev. George Whitefield on December 16 in Gloucester, England. Rev. Mr. Whitefield was the most vital and influential preacher in America, establishing the Methodist faith. The endowment value was $918,050 on August 31, 2014

7 At the sign of the rose, we re happy to announce that our new season of Vespers quiet time for prayerful meditation and peace, wonderful reflections from the Reverend John Hughes, candle-lighting at the altar, and perfect music, resumes in September. All are welcome. The Sanctuary opens at 6:30 for meditation & prayer; our service is from 7 7:30 pm, followed by ten minutes of music. For further information, call Wed. 8 Saturday, November 15 th, 9 am to 2p.m. CHRISTMAS FAIR Looking forward to talking with everyone who helped last year, on the telephone very soon. However, we need help and encourage new blood & new ideas!!!!! We will try and inform everyone about our Christmas Fair through the monthly newsletter, updates on the web, and weekly s and worship bulletins. Please pass on the good news the Fair is coming! As time draws near we will contact the newspapers, radio stations, and use posters for our Merchants in Manchester and neighboring towns. We need contributions to all tables and rooms: Books, Crafts, Children's Craft & Children s White Elephant, Jewelry, Basket Auction, New Items, and the ever popular White Elephant. Please bring all donations to the Chapel, place in hallway outside the Church Office or call Martha Elder for pick up. (We will have help to pick up your donations but need to know when you will be home in order for us to pick them up.) We welcome homemade mittens, scarfs (currently fashion statements), warm stockings, and more. Come November we will need bakers for our Cookie and Baked Goods tables. We always sell out before noon. We are trying to have the biggest ever selection of cookies this year to please ALL of our customers. Suggestions: Can you donate canned jellies, jams, preserves, pickles, chutney, salsa, hot sauces, dipping sauces? It s been a terrific year in the garden have you canned a few extra tomatoes, beans, or beets? Christmas breads and cookies, that could be frozen until Dec. 25th!!!!! How about homemade candy?
