1 Corinth Baptist Church -- August, 2015, Newsletter The Pastor s Page- August 2015 What a great time we have had during the month of July. We experienced a 4 th celebration that included a great time with our children and the bicycle parade, icecream and the sweet singing of Risen. We also completed our Journey off the Map, Vacation Bible School. We 115 nightly for the 5 nights, and concluded with a special commencement service on Sunday August 2, with 190 in attendance. Our thanks to all that assisted and helped in this ministry. We have celebrated baptism and are adding to the church as the Holy Spirit leads. Our Sunday night Bible study on Christian Apologetics has been well received and attended. We invite you to come and participate. There is also ministry opportunities for all age groups at the 6:00 PM meeting times. Our student ministry is growing and the leaders of the ministry team are doing an outstanding job of teaching and mentoring our students. Many of our students and their leaders are going on a trip to Virginia to have a little fun and recreation prior to having to resume the work of a new school year beginning in August. When they get back into a regular routine, we are planning some on-going mission work and preparation studies for a mission trip next summer. We are building this program to help build young lives for the work of Christ and the church. Again, we thank the Student Mission Team for their stepping up and supporting and building this ministry. The church calendar for August does not yet appear to be extremely busy, but beginning in September, things will be busy for the rest of the year. September 6, for the evening service, we will have a special church wide event to celebrate Labor Day-details will follow in subsequent bulletins. High attendance Sunday is planned for September 13 th, with Homecoming on the 20 th and revival to begin on Monday 21 st --. Recently there are many that have been sick, hospitalized, and some of ours have gone to be with the Lord. Please remember the sick and bereaved in your prayers. Please, invite someone to our times of worship, service, instruction and fellowship. If you like what is happening, then please share. Again, it is my great privilege to be your pastor and your friend. I love you and stand ready to help you any way that I can. Senior Adults Ministry August If you were unable to join us in July, you missed a delicious roast pork dinner complete with rice and gravy and lots of garden fresh sides. Also, the desserts were, as usual, decadent. But mostly, you missed a great opportunity to connect and fellowship with your fellow senior adults. So our next lunch is Tuesday, August 18, at noon. 4 CHILDREN IN ACTION August, 2015 Reaching the Hmong in Minnesota The Hmong [mahng] are a people group from Southeast Asia. In the years following the Vietnam War, large groups of Hmong people migrated to the US. Many settled in the Twin Cities metropolis of Minnesota. Today, Hmong-American church planters and missionaries work to reach this unique culture and help them come to know the Christ that transcends all cultures. WEEK ONE: Through the story of Tabitha (Dorcus), CAs will learn that we honor God when we help others. WEEK TWO: CAs will learn about church planting through the story of Fue Chee Her, a pastor who reaches out to young Hmong-Americans in metro Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. WEEK THREE: CAs will learn about the spiritual journey of NA Herr, which took him from a refugee camp in Thailand to a church in metro Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Na Herr now helps young Hmong adults understand God s plan for their lives. WEEK FOUR: Children will participate in special projects related to what they have learned this month. BIBLE VERSE: A child is known by his actions. He is known by whether his conduct is pure and right. (Proverbs 20:11 NlrV) Thank you, parents, for your continued support in bringing your children each week to learn about the work our missionaries are doing all over the world. In Christ, Karen Knowles, Penny Henderson, Barbie Jackson For August, we will collect school supplies - Paper, pencils, markers, pencil sharpeners, crayons, flashcards, erasers, etc. Please keep in mind these items must fit into a shoebox. Items can be left in the G.R.O.W. Room in the Family Life Center. Thank you, Corinth! Ladies, just a reminder if you have signed up for our Bible Study on Wednesday nights, it begins on August 19, and runs for seven weeks. 5 Happenings with Corinth s Youth August, 2015 Journey Off the Map continues Corinth s youth will continue the VBS theme by journeying to Pigeon Forge, TN! Youth, ages 10 and up our Youth Ministry has planned a 3-day trip filled with exciting adventures such as WHITE WATER RAFTING, ZIP LINING, EXTREME GO-KART RACING, ALPINE COASTER, ROPE COURSE and more in the Tennessee Mountain! This fun-filled adventure begins August 6 with Dwight and Sylvia Johnson, and other adults from Corinth acting as your guides. Corinth will pay for travel, lodging and fees to all the activities. Youth will be responsible for their meals and spending money. The last day to sign up is August 1 and there is a sign-up sheet in the Family Life Center. For more detailed information, you may contact Sylvia Johnson at Sunday, August 30, the youth are leaving after the morning worship service for lunch and bowling in Wilmington. It promises to be a fun afternoon and they will return in time for our evening services. If you have questions, please contact Barbie Jackson ( ). CHILDREN S NURSERY NEWS The leaders of the Children s Nursery Ministry would like to show all the nursery team workers who have been so dedicated and committed to Corinth s youngest this past year ( ) just how much they are appreciated. So they are inviting all the team members and their families to breakfast in the Fellowship Hall of the Family Life Center on Sunday, August 30, at 9 AM. Also, on that Sunday morning immediately after the Worship Service, The Nursery Ministry would like to meet with those who have so selfishly volunteered to help with the nursery for the up-coming church year (September, 2015 August, 2016). It will be a brief meeting but all the workers are encouraged to be there to get the new schedule and have the opportunity to ask questions.

6 On August 16, at 6 PM, Corinth s Children are performing their music from G-FORCE for the whole church family. Immediately following, from 7 PM 9 PM, the church family is invited to a Pool Party at Rose Hill Private Park. Hope everyone can make it! Vacation Bible School Thank you for allowing your child to join us this week as we ve explored truths about God s faithfulness and our faithfulness to Him. As the explorers journeyed through uncharted territory, they discovered that Jesus is our Ultimate Guide and they can listen for God s direction. Thank you to all the children for their behavior and attendance this week. To all the youth and adults, thank you for your attendance and hard work. Thank you to all my teachers and assistants for your hard work, your time and your dedication to teaching. To all my volunteers, who cooked and cleaned, sang, ran the sound system, took pictures, helped with crafts, decorated and played one of the craziest kickball games I've ever seen thank you, thank you, thank you. You are all a true blessing! A very big thank you goes to True Faith Baptist Church for giving us their VBS decorations. A big thank you to Mr. William and Mrs. Vickie Merritt for your nightly dessert donations of Little Debbie cakes. Also a thank you to House of Raeford for their donation of chicken tenders. A very special thank you to my Daddy for staying and taking care of Morgan. And to my main man, Michael, thank you for always helping me with anything I asked you to do, like cutting bamboo in the heat and being eaten up by mosquitos. Just as Daniel and his friends stepped into uncharted territory and found that God still had a plan, we can begin to understand that obedience to God does not always lead to the expected. The journey of a lifetime begins with an exciting relationship with Jesus that continues into eternity. Whenever faced with the unexpected, we can know and listen for God s direction. 7 Looking ahead to September, Corinth is planning a Labor Day Celebration on Sunday evening, September 6. We ll have more details in the upcoming Sunday bulletins so stay tuned! Sunday, September 13, is: HIGH ATTENDANCE SUNDAY! Also, on that day, we will take the opportunity to thank and recognize our wonderful Sunday School Teachers who give their time and love in sharing God s teaching to young and old alike. Sunday, September 20, is Homecoming! Save the date and look for more information in our September Newsletter! It s not too early to call some of our old friends and invite them back to celebrate with us!
