4 WELCOME A GUIDE TO THE MORNING SERVICE We welcome all to this service of worship, and we are delighted that you are here with us today. If you are a Christian visiting with us today, we greet you in the name of our common Lord. If you are not a believer, we greet you as a friend and trust that you will sense the warmth and genuineness of our reception. We invite everyone here to participate with our congregation as we sing, pray, and give attention to God s Word to us this morning. Our hope is that your understanding and love of Jesus Christ will grow because of your visit. THE LORD S PRAYER: THE MODEL FOR CHRISTIAN PRAYER In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus He gives us a model for what prayer should look like for a Christian. It is prayer that is both vertical (centering on Our Father, who art in Heaven ) and horizontal (addressing tangible, earthly needs and concerns). The very structure of the prayer teaches us a lesson of vital importance: that our most pressing need is for our Father in heaven. Since from Him and through Him and to Him are all things, He necessarily deserves all glory forever (Rom. 11:36). Therefore, all prayer should be rooted in the Fatherhood of God with an aim toward His glory. However, Jesus also taught us to pray for the physical, felt needs of this life. Something so basic as bread, Jesus commends as a worthwhile and necessary component of God-honoring prayer. This reminds us that we are incapable of providing for the most basic needs of our lives, but are instead, dependent on the provision of our heavenly Father. By reciting this prayer together, we are collectively reminding ourselves that God is our Father, His glory is our goal, and He is ultimately the One who takes care of all our needs. May this be an encouragement to our hearts this morning, that our Father is not aloof and unconcerned with the tangible needs of earthly life, but is the one who kindly cares for us by bestowing them. THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.

FIRST PRES FORUM ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays we come together in Patterson Hall to be nurtured by Scripture and prayer in order to know the God who is and go forth in love and service. Our first quarter topic, Believing Scripture in a Modern World, will be taught by Cory Brock and will discuss the authority and power of Scripture, its power to pierce, to convict, to call and to reveal salvation. 8 The Vows for the Sacrament of Baptism In order for the congregation to more fully enter into the service of the sacrament of baptism and to refresh ourselves on our church membership vow, the following is provided for your convenience and information: To the parents:.1. Do you acknowledge your child s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?.2. Do you claim God s covenant promises in (his) behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for (his) salvation, as you do for your own?.3. Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to God and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before (him) a godly example, that you will pray with and for (him), that you will teach (him) the doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God s appointment, to bring (him) up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? And To the congregation: Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of this child?
