8 FAMILY WORSHIP GUIDE At FPC, we believe that family worship is important. Recognizing the time challenges of a busy week with work and school, we want to make it as easy as possible for you. So we hope you find this Family Worship Guide helpful and use it in your homes this week. Each week addresses a question from the Westminster Shorter Catechism, with a daily scripture reference, key thought, and questions for family discussion. You can use this abbreviated version by simply taking this bulletin home with you today, or get the complete version ed to you weekly by subscribing at fpcj.ms/fam-devo. Or contact the church office at or receptionist@fpcjackson.org. THIS WEEK S FOCUS: Question 58: What does the fourth commandment require? Answer: The fourth commandment requires us to set apart to God the times He has established in word-- specifically one whole day out of every seven as holy Sabbath to Him. MONDAY Scripture: Read Exodus 1:11-30 Key Thought: Remember the Sabbath Day. Why does the th commandment begin with the word remember? Why does man have a tendency to forget the Sabbath? How did Moses command the Israelites to prepare for the Sabbath in Exodus 1:23? What special provisions did God make? TUESDAY Scripture: Read Isaiah 58:13-1; Exodus 31:13-17 Key Thought: Sanctify the Sabbath day. What does the word sanctify mean? How is the special nature of the Sabbath Day seen in Isaiah 58:13? Unto whom is the Sabbath Day to be set apart? What does this mean? WEDNESDAY Scripture: Read Genesis 1:28; 2 Thessalonians 3:-12 Key Thought: Six days you shall labor. When did the concept of labor or work first come into the world? Is work part of God s curse upon man for his sin? What is the proper biblical view of work? THURSDAY Scripture: Read Nehemiah 13:15-22; John 2:13-17 Key Thought: Guard the Sabbath day. What responsibility is placed upon the head of the household? How did Nehemiah apply this principle in his day? What responsibilities do we have to guard others from breaking the Sabbath? What practical applications can you think of? FRIDAY Scripture: Read Deuteronomy 5:12-15; Hebrews :1-10 Key Thought: Rejoice in the significance of the Sabbath. What reason is given in Deuteronomy 5:15 for keeping the Sabbath? What rest did Israel enjoy? What rest did they anticipate? What rest do we enjoy through Christ? What rest do we anticipate? What should be our conscious focus on the Lord s Day?
