2 What is "the" Truth? "We are living in an age in which people are rather skeptical of truth. Benedict XVI has frequently spoken of relativism, that is, to consider nothing definitive and to think that truth comes from consensus or from something we like. The question arises: does 'the' truth really exist? What is 'the' truth? Can we know it? Can we find it? Here springs to mind the question of Pontius Pilate, the Roman procurator, when Jesus reveals to him the deep meaning of his mission: 'What is truth?' (John 18:37,28). Pilate cannot understand that 'the' Truth is standing in front of him; he cannot see in Jesus the face of the truth that is the face of God. And yet Jesus is exactly this: the truth that, in the fullness of time, 'become flesh' and came to dwell among us so that we might know it (cf. John 1:1,14). The truth is not grasped as a thing; the truth is encountered. Ii is not a possession; it is an encounter with a Person." - Pope Francis ("What is 'the' Truth?": General Audience, St. Peter's Square, Vatican City State, April 17, 2013) Ministry Schedule WEEKEND OF MARCH 1 & 2, 2014 Serving at the Altar 7:30 AM Gabriella Malinconico Mia Malinconico Colin Mathias Emily Godkin Jillian Johnson Alexandra Sweeney 11:00 AM 5:00 P.M. St. Vincent de Paul Society The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international Catholic organization of more than 750,000 lay men and women who seek to help the suffering in a spirit of justice and charity through person-to-person involvement. Founded in France in 1833, with St. Vincent de Paul as its patron, in the United States today there are more than 59,000 members in 4,300 conferences. Vincentians seek through prayer, meditation on Scripture and the teachings of the Church to bear witness to the love of Christ through their daily lives and in their relationships with those in need. The St. Vincent de Paul Society and its work have been encouraged by the Bishops of Trenton to provide a special means for lay-people to participate in the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy through a time-tested organization with national and international support. Your gift continues the mission of St. Vincent de Paul right here in central New Jersey.
