And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! For if, while we were God s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:1-11

4 WELCOME TO ALLEN AVENUE Welcome to all members and visitors who are worshiping with us today! ANNOUNCEMENTS October is Pastor Appreciation Month this is a special opportunity for you to show thanks, appreciation and prayers for Pastor Ben, his family and all the ministries at Allen Avenue. Prayer Partners Our Allen Avenue kids are growing different grades, different activities. Are you praying for your prayer partner child? Are you occasionally touching bases with them? Praying for our children is so important! Call Deb or Russ Vlasma or Laura Ridings if you have any questions regarding your prayer child. October is Missions Emphasis Month. Over the next few weeks we will have a slide show highlighting our missionaries before the worship services. There will also be bulletin inserts from Resonate Global Mission, the newly formed ministry of the CRC that combines Home Missions and World Missions into one ministry organization. On October 29 th, Dr. Dick Kamps will be giving a presentation after church on a new ministry in Muskegon called Step Up that targets young women who age out of the foster care system. Wednesday, October 18 th, 6:15-8:00 p.m. - GEMS meet in the Education center. Please be sure to bring your Badge book with you because we will be working on a badge that night. Thursday, October 19 th, 5:40 p.m. - GEMS meet in the church parking lot to get a ride to the Cadet and GEMS Rollerskating party at Jumpin' Jupiter. Remember to bring the money you need to get in to skate. Also, remember that any of your family members are also invited to skate.

6 ANNOUNCEMENTS CON T Next Sunday the GEMS will be selling baked goods after the service. This is a fundraising project for GEMS Camp. Last year the Allen Avenue baked goods buyers were very generous and the girls raised $ There will not be any prices on the items so it's all donations again just like last year. Thank you in advance for your support of this project and of the GEMS program. The Todays are here and ready to be picked up. The congregational life committee is organizing a progressive dinner for Saturday, October 28th. Today is the last day to sign up. See Bob or Kellie Cavanaugh if you have questions. Missionary updates from the Stephan Lutz and Alicia Zents, Matt & Katie DeKam, Tuls, and Zuni Christian are on the bulletin boards downstairs. They will also be in the upcoming Allen Avenue News. FRIENDLY FACES ARE NEEDED TO PASS OUT CANDY! PLEASE SIGN UP TODAY TO HELP WITH TRUNK-OR-TREAT, so that our Angell neighborhood kids have a safe and family-friendly way to enjoy Halloween night from 6-7 pm. (Just one hour!) All you need to do is show up at church before 5:45 pm, with a bowl of candy to serve from the trunk of your car. We ll move into the education center if it rains. Feel free to wear a funny hat or a costume. The kids love it if you decorate the trunk of your car. It s not required but it s fun! Don't stress too much about whether you'll bring enough candy. We're collecting candy donations from the congregation to supplement what you bring. There are containers at the entry doors to receive donations of candy from members who are unable to attend the Trunk-or-Treat. Charry Snyder or Barb Malda would also be happy to receive your cash donations for purchasing candy. Thanks to everyone who's willing to support this project as we partner with neighbors to build relationships within the Angell community.

Millie Baker: Millie is out of the ICU. She is improving but weak. Pray for her recovery and pray that God would give her strength. Kathy Neimeyer: Kathy is still in ICU. She had a second surgery this week. She is weak but also slowly improving. Gord Peterman: Continue to pray for Gord. His recovery is coming along nicely. Anna Van Polen: Dan Huttenga s aunt is dying from cancer. She is in hospice care as of this past Thursday. Lift the family up in prayer as her earthly pilgrimage comes to an end. Council: Pray for your Elders and Deacons as they work through the budget and the nomination process. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide them. Allen Ave.: For us as we work through Autopsy of a Deceased Church. Seek the Lord and His Spirit to guide us as we work together through this.
