1 United Methodist Women Cape Atlantic District News Publisher Lou Hyson President s Message Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior!! I hope you all have had a restful and enjoyable summer, even though it has gone by much too swiftly for my liking. I trust that you held close to the Lord, feeling His presence as you shared in His wonderful creation.... listening for and hearing that still, small voice calling out to you. The messages presented this summer at my church dealt largely with how we are to try and strive to be more like Jesus in our actions, in our thoughts, in our words. We long to be more like Jesus in everything that we are!! We must remember to look each day to the example that Jesus left for us to love the unlovable, to accept the unacceptable, and to forgive the unforgivable. As Christians, we are called to be His hands and feet, helping His children in this world He has given us. Are you listening? Are you willing to step up? So much of how we are to live, what we are to do can be found in His Holy word. In the New Testament book of Matthew 25:35-36, 40 we find these words: I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave Robin Lord me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me. The disciples question Jesus, wondering when they treated him this way, what did his statements mean. Jesus answers them, I assure you that when you have done it to the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me. (CEB version) As United Methodist Women and as followers of Christ, we are all called to follow and listen to these teachings He gave to us. Whether locally, nationally, or globally, we must continue to reach out to those that need us the most. This summer at Mission u, we heard of the continuing struggles of those facing a poverty-stricken life, we learned of the Roma of Europe and their continuing struggles to survive in a world that, even today in the 21 st Century, still shuns them, and the children learned about the migrant people and their trying to find a place in this world. We are all God s children! We are together in this world and we must help each other, we must love each other. I have heard you calling in the night... I will go, Lord if you lead me... I will hold your people in my heart. We await your guidance, Lord. Lead us, we will go... here we are, ready to follow! We are coming up on our Fall Meeting, installing the district team for Did you notice that the names look the same? That s because a lot of the names ARE the same. We need some new people to freshen the team. We need some new people to fill the OPEN jobs. Search your hearts and pray, is God calling you? Are you listening? If you are hearing the call, take one of those OPEN jobs, and let God enrich your life. I went to Mission u this year and took the class entitled Not For Sale. It was about human trafficking, modern day slavery and bondage here today in the 21th century. So you are thinking, it must be in some third world country. You would be right, and then again you would be wrong. Yes, it is in other countries, but it is also right here at home. Yep, right here in the USA. Do you know that 50% of slavery victims are children? Do you know that right now human trafficking is more profitable then drugs? That it is the second largest criminal industry in the world, tied with arms dealing? Do you know that 30 million people are slaves today. You would not believe the stories that we read in the book. Please get the book, Not for Sale: The Return of the Global Slave Trade. Read it and then help do something about it. You can read more about it on the UMW Greater New Jersey Web site here trafficking/ and there is also a campaign going on at The conference fall meeting will be talking about human trafficking. See meeting flyer on page 10. Just a little note about our web site, right now we have none. Problems with the other web site forced it closed. But, if you will come, we will build it brand new. 3 Volume 3 Page 3 Spiritual Growth Message THANK YOU, LORD! As I was finishing offering thanks for my breakfast one morning recently, the words of an old song learned as a child came across my mind Back of the loaf is the snowy flour, back of the flour the mill, back of the mill, the wheat, the shower, the sun and our Father s will. As I considered my breakfast juice, cereal, milk, and realized all that could make up the list of back of, it took on a whole new vision for it included trees, fields, farmland, farmers, field workers, factory workers, cows, nature, weather, and the boundless reality of all God has created so that we can enjoy, be healthy, and grow. Thank you for this food becomes so much more than a phrase of thanksgiving and appreciation it becomes a prayer that includes so much more than the meal before us; it is a prayer that gathers in people with names and faces, even though we have never seen them; it includes acres and acres of this beautiful land called America, rich, fertile soil, land that must be tended and cared for in order to keep it fit for growing crops, feeding grazing cattle, and at times resting from work so that the land is not robbed of its vitality; it is understanding the workings of nature season after season, times of rain and times of drought, light and clouds and times of storm; it is a prayer of thanks for minds that have Frances Hagins developed and changed equipment in order to manufacture and process these things in new and specialized methods; it is a prayer of praise and worship brought forth from realizing the majesty and power of God himself, the Creator and Designer of all and everything. It becomes a prayer of deep, faithful trust, a prayer that comes from a heart and soul humbled when understanding our place in the long golden line of back of. Thank you Father for all the gifts and wonders I can discover in a glass of juice, and a dish of cereal and milk. Amen. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 The Message Sisters and Brothers in Christ, remember to daily keep your senses sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, ALERT, in order NOT to miss one opportunity to find our Creator in all things and praise HIM.

4 Page 4 United Methodist Women - Cape Atlantic District Area Unit Coordinators - Shore Ginger Tucker GET TO KNOW YOUR AUC Hello to all! My name is Ginger Tucker. I would like to tell you some information about my personal journey with the United Methodist Women. I am a single mom with an autistic 7yr old son. Some may know my son Taylor because he attends many of our UMW events. This past year I asked Robin Lord about what I could do to be more active with the UMW. Call me crazy but the Lord was leading me somewhere I know nothing about. Yes I was scared but I opened my heart and was guided to become the AUC. As I grow in my new role I ask for prayers of guidance and support. Thanks for every ones help. 5 Volume 3 Page 5 Treasurer s Message Kate Burch Dear Sisters in Christ, At our fall meeting, we will celebrate Jesus, the Light of the World. We are called to be His light in the world, reflecting all the blessings God has bestowed on us. As your treasurer, I have the honor and pleasure of witnessing the love that you pour out through your generous giving to the mission work of United Methodist Women. Some of our sister districts have had to cut their pledges this year. I am pleased to announce that Cape Atlantic is holding firm at $22,000. Actually last year, we were over $23,000! Keep up the good works that you are doing in the name of Jesus. I want to especially thank my fellow treasurers for their attention to submitting pledges on a quarterly basis. That frees up more money to go to the mission field rather than paying back loans that National has to take to meet operating expenses. I appreciate the time you spend collecting, disbursing and record keeping. The third quarter deadline is September 30. DEAD- LINE TO BE 5 STAR UNIT FOR 2013 IS NOVEMBER 30. I have to have year end reports to the conference treasurer by December 5th, so she can have her reports to National by December 20th. Romans 12:2 (NIV) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed, by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. As I ponder the PURPOSE of the United Methodist Women, I have decided that we truly do work to promote missions opportunities and strive to reach out to all women. In this ever changing world, things are not necessarily changed for the good of God s will. However, we are a strong force in our home, church and communities. We must continue to support our purpose. Change comes in God s time. Do not give up. Often times, it may appear that our work is in vain, but, that is not for us to determine. We must continue with our missions with special emphasis on women, children and youth. I urge you to use the Prayer Calendar, the Response Magazine and United Methodist Women Program Book. All programs can be adapted for larger or smaller groups. Are you a 5-star or Mission today unit? Become a 5- Star and/or Mission Today Unit. Perhaps you are not aware that mission work you do is included in the criteria. Want to chat about it? Contact me.
