1 REPRODUCIBLE By John Sorrells, Senior Pastor April 2015 Hello Crosspoint Family and Friends! Last fall we added a toy poodle, Brody, to our home. He and Maddie, our cockapoo, hit it off really well. So well that this month we are expecting a litter of puppies. We are so excited! Since January, I have been introducing some key words that help us to discover our purpose at Crosspoint. In January, we explored perspective that value of understanding our vision and why we emphasize things like being on mission and making disciples. In February, we looked at intentionality which helped us to realize that we must embrace purposely the values to love God, love others and serve. In March, I discussed how important it is for us to be a church that values relationships. Being relational is vital to our being a church where people feel welcome and fundamental to your having the opportunity to share Jesus with others. In our Real Life Discipleship material, we have discovered a fourth word that I hope will become a mainstay here at Crosspoint reproducible. Consider what that word means. In a few days, we will observe in our home several offspring of Brody and Maddie. We anticipate that they will be small, black and very cute. They will look like that which produced them. In the making of disciples, we observe Jesus and the early church modeling a process for us which truly is simple and reproducible. It involves being intentional in our relating to others and having a perspective of where they are in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus spent time with his disciples. He looked for opportunities to teach them. He continually probed into their understanding and he gave them opportunities to test their understanding through practical application. Through the apostles, especially Paul, James and Peter, we find a process that is reproducible. In RLD, there are certain benchmarks for which to look that allow a disciple to gauge another disciple s maturity through five stages of growth rebirth, infancy, childhood, early adulthood and parenthood. I cannot emphasize enough the source of this reproducible process. We find it in the scriptures. It is modeled by our Lord Jesus himself. His followers in turn demonstrate for us how it was repeated in the early church. So really it boils down to spiritual offspring. Are you becoming more and more like Jesus? In your homes, are your children daily observing what it looks like for a person to submit their life to the Lordship of Christ? Is there less of the world and more of the Scriptures in the routines of your family life? It really is as simple as daily reading a story of Jesus straight from the Scriptures. At night, I enjoyed tucking my children to bed and telling them a bible story. In the mornings at breakfast, instead of reading cereal boxes, I gave them a bible story typed in my own words for them to read. It takes time and intentionality but it is well worth it. 2 Page 2 Children s Ministry by Ryan Peters If you have a child between the age of 3 to 5th grade, we would love to have them join us on Sunday night from 5:30-7:00 p.m. for our Kidzpoint ministry. Starting on April 12th we will begin a new unit on the book of Ruth and 1 Samuel. We will be learning how God used people and visual elements in history to give us pictures of Christ. VBS June 6pm-8Pm The theme for this year s VBS is EVEREST. The kids will be able to embark on an icy expedition where they will overcome obstacles with God's awesome power. They will learn about rock-solid Bible truths that will guide them through life's challenges. We need lots of volunteers to have a successful April Deacons Desiring to better serve each of you, each deacon has volunteered a month when they are on call to serve you. It is their joy to come alongside you in a time of need to encourage you and pray with you. The men will fix the Senior Adult Ministry Trip to Inn on Harlee St (The Grove) The Seniors will travel to Marion to the Inn and have lunch as well as tour the home and grounds of the Grove. 3 Page 3 Music Ministry by Ryan Peters Last month Angela and I had the opportunity to get away and attend a Weekend to Remember marriage conference sponsored by Family Life. One of the misconceptions a lot of people have, regarding a marriage conference, is that only people that are struggling in their marriage attend this kind of conference. While there are some couples who go as a last resort to try to save their marriage, I believe that the majority are attending the conference to enhance, protect and strengthen their marriage. In every marriage there are different seasons of life that you go through. You are probably in a totally different season now than you were a year ago. Two years from now you will experience more changes with mountains and valleys of life. One thing that doesn t change is the fact that a great marriage takes two, and it requires work. My one take away for the weekend was that oneness in marriage consists of 3 essential ingredients. Extravagant Love..It is a choice and not based on a feeling and it ultimately reflects the love of God. Generous Forgiveness.which begins with humility. Enthusiastic Encouragement..motivates your spouse to grow and it leads to authentic unity. I feel a lot of times we tend to find fault and push blame on the other person. If we will only take the time and examine ourselves first, we may find our spouse may not be the one that needs fine tuning. We want to create opportunities and environments to do life together and show strong love. Be Strong in the Lord Paul remembered the words of Jesus, My grace is all you need.
