To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We are going to start Christian education classes in church from September onwards. In these classes we learn and teach about the eternal life in Jesus. We continue to search the eternal words that Peter declared two thousand years ago. The search continues even to this day. The Greek word skleros, which means not hard to understand, but hard to accept. The overdose deaths, school shootings, bullying in schools, violence in the community, results from medical diagnoses make it hard to accept religion and Jesus for some. Difficulties faced in the work place make it hard to trust in God. Financial crises with bills to pay make it

2 To whom shall we go?.. continued from page 1 hard to accept our faith. Broken relationships make it hard to accept Christ. Children s new tendencies of entitlement make it hard to accept it. The tragic homicide of college student, Mollie Tibbetts, makes it difficult to see God in this event. The death and sickness of loved ones make it hard to see God s presence. Since we have our own view of who we want Jesus to be, there will be conflict within us. These incidents and conditions do not allow us to accept Projects.. Jesus as true God or Jesus as a trustworthy God. These circumstances lead us to two questions: Where is God? Why me? Peter said, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, but he did not know the commitment of that statement. Mary accepted Gabriel s message, but she did not know the cost of the acceptance. You and I accepted at the baptism font, but we are not daring enough to follow him. It is hard to accept Jesus in our struggles. The two questions may keep us away from God like the disciples who left Jesus or bring us closer to God like Peter and the other ten disciples. We need to put on the whole armor of God as Apostle Paul said, to withstand these evil days and commit ourselves like Joshua did, For me and my household, we will serve the Lord. God bless, Pastor Emmanuel There are several projects that should be addressed in and around our building. Some are upkeep and maintenance; some are new initiatives. All will need funding beyond what has been budgeted. Your council has proposed a special offering program to help pay for these projects. Each Sunday, an offering plate will be placed in the narthex for accepting free will offerings. A specific project will be identified each month. If necessary, more time will be provided. A list of projects is being prepared and will be made available for review in the near future. A first priority will be to re-establish the garden under the trees at the driveway/parking lot corner. Hopefully, enough funds will be available for a fall planting and other improvements. A proposed plan has been posted on the bulletin board. Comments and suggestions for this project are welcome. Other projects identified so far include: repair of the sign, completion of fire pit, Repair of the ceiling fans, and some interior painting. We also will be doing a study to determine ways to reduce energy consumption. Most of the projects would benefit from volunteer labor, so if additional offering is difficult, perhaps some our hands help could be provided. As always, any comments and suggestions for other projects or means of funds are most welcome. Just contact a council member.

9 Harvest House The Community Garden group has a goal of providing 2,000 pounds of produce to the feeding program at the Shalom House. The garden group has already provided over 900 pounds. At this time, all of the produce must be preserved for future use by canning, freezing, or vacuum sealing. The only way this goal is likely to be achieved is by the grant that was bestowed onto St. Peter s Episcopal Church. The church received a Community Ministry Grant funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. St. Peter s Episcopal Church received a little over $47, Through these funds, they were able to repurpose and transform a portion of there church with new kitchen equipment. The area will be called, Harvest House Community Center. This center will be open to the public and has offered the youth of Boone County the opportunity to learn about gardening and food preparation. Starting in mid-september individuals or groups can bring into the kitchen, their own produce or may harvest produce from the Community Share Garden, which is located on the property of the church. Sandy Dailey, a Certified Food Handler, will teach you how to use the equipment and how to proceed with the best method for YOU to preserve YOUR food. All of these services are FREE, even the containers you need (canning jars, lids, rings, etc.). Donations are always appreciated to help offset the costs. 10 Camp Counselor Notes... Hello all. This summer I spent 10 weeks working for Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Indiana-Kentucky. This was my second summer on staff, and I was hired to the same position as last year. I was the counselor of the cabin Rome at Camp Lutherwald in Howe, IN (a 3 hour drive North of Lebanon). In a typical day at camp, we would have silly songs and Good Morning God before breakfast, Morning Pleasures where campers help clean up locations around camp, You- Choose where campers can choose between playing a game or making a craft, Bible study, lunch, Flop=on-Bunk aka nap time (one of my personal favorites), swim time in the lake twice a day, canteen where campers can buy snacks and play games, dinner, Chapel where we sing more serious camp songs and further learn about our bible story of the day, one large camp game, then campfire before bed time. Games ranged from capture the flag to letters to Garcia where campers delivered letters between hiding staff members. Once a week we had Outpost where camper's sleep outside in their sleeping bags under the stars. Every Wednesday night campers went on a Christ-walk where they witnessed staff members act out different stories in the bible. I acted out the story of Simon the sorcerer from Acts Chapter 8. All of the bible studies focused on God s grace and how it applied to the stories of The walk to Emmaus, The conversion of Saul, The parable of the sheep and the Goats, The Canaanite Woman, and The parable of the Prodigal son. Over the course of 8 weeks, my cabin housed children from 1st grade through Senior High and we had one week of Adult Mentally Handicapped where we had 30 campers between the ages of 30 and 80. I had so many great campers and many familiar faces both in my cabin and on staff with me. I can t really put into words how meaningful camp has been to me as a staff member and a camper. I feel so blessed to have worked there for two summers. I plan to work for LOMIK again next summer. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers! Nicholas Biddle
