I'm not sure if you remember me, XYZ son of ABC, [I have removed names], and friends with Danny and Glen [our two deceased sons] in. Mum passed away about 4 years ago in from ovarian cancer. I believe she became a Christian as a direct result of attending the Lamb of God Community in, and I became a Christian a few years later as I couldn't deny the change I saw in her and realized there was something radically different about her; she looked more at peace and different (more relaxed) which oddly angered me at the time. My thinking was that God was real because I could see Him change my mother in front of my own eyes and this was hard to deny. I sort of walked away from God after about 10 years to my detriment and got caught up in the methamphetamine scene up here in where I now live. However I have gone to rehab, cleaned up, and have started to get my life back on track. I attend St Paul's Anglican Church in the city, which is a vibrant loving and spirit filled community so I'm lucky here. And I am working again so my life's markedly different than it was for me 14 months ago. Years ago you came around to my house in in regards to myself and a friend of mine at the time four our pouring beer into Glen s motorcycle tank at an ex-girlfriend s house [the girl is named and is known to me, and would be to many in the Branch]. I lied and denied it happen to you, but it did. The guy I was with did do this and I condoned it I guess by being present and not stopping him. I've felt bad about lying to you about this for years as to a number of other wrong things I'm now beginning to front up to. I'm doing the 12 steps in narcotics anonymous up here in with a sponsor and trying to put right my wrongs so as to stay clean by as they say "cleaning house". I guess I'm asking for your forgiveness for lying to you and wish to apologize for this and also encourage you with the powerful effect your church had on my [names his mother] life and consequently mine. Yours truly- XYZ

My reply was Yes you have the correct address, and yes Veronica and I remember you and your mum. She was indeed a member of the Lamb of God and her commitment to Christ did change her life and was an inspiration to many. You can be proud of her and be assured of her salvation in the Lord. And so can you hold hope into the future for your eternal destiny. Take a close look and think about the Gospel of John Chapter 6:37, which says All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away that talks of you. I was delighted to get your and I admire your determination to right wrongs. I had forgotten the incident but clearly the Lord has reminded you. You can be assured that I forgive you. We are still at the same address in Lake Terrace Road so if ever you are down south please feel free to give me an advance and we would be delighted to see you. You take care and I pray the Lord will richly bless you as you journey with Him. Peace in the Lord. Roger and Veronica. He has since replied and is coming south in about two months. I get wonderfully encouraged with things like this because it demonstrates and reminds me that God is constantly at work, and that his ways are so different to mine. At times I might think well the gathering didn t go so well today or we had a number of people away today and that disappoints me- did you notice I hardly miss a meeting Lord? Or at times I might feel a bit disconnected to the joy around me at some meetings. But as my dear wife Veronica has constantly reminded over the years of our marriage: thank God you re not God, Roger SO TRUE! Roger Foley: Senior Coordinator OUR PEOPLE Congratulations! Well done Oliver Lyons [] playing football in a recent 9th grade tournament. There were 24 teams and his club Parkland won the tournament, fantastic, but it was apparently a bit stressful watching some of the games! They won all their games but the semi-final was against a team that hadn t lost a game all season and were playing in the 10th grade competition. It came down to a nailbiting penalty shootout which Oliver s team won. One of the amazing things about Oliver s team is they are players picked from four teams and they had only one practice together and the tournament was the first time they had played together as a team! Awesome- well played both teams. With sadness, yet confidence in the Lord, we remember: Ian and Para Hamilton [] as Ian s son has passed to the Lord [Note to all Branch leaders: Please send your local news/snippets to Roger Foley or Tom Caballes so that we can acknowledge important occasions in the lives of our brothers and sisters and make sure we do not miss any of them.] 2

NEWS AND ARTICLES 3 THE PRIVILEGE OF VISITING THE COMMUNITIES IN MALAYSIA Veronica and I visited the Covenanted for Christ Community branches in Penang and Taiping in August which concluded with our giving a series of talks to the community and others from Kuala Lumpur at the Catholic Church Centre in Taiping. We started with three days in the city of Penang with the Penang Branch. Over twentyfive years ago this community received our daughter Sue when she travelled the world and did some mission work in a number of countries. This led to a friendship with the community leaders [Barnabas and Barbara] who later visited and stayed as guests in our home. Our friendship has stood the test of time and it remains firm today. How good it is to see Barnabas and Barbara still serving, still caring for people, still fervent for the Lord. Like most communities our brothers and sisters in Penang have faced trials and testing but they have stood firm. They are impressive in love and service and it was a joy to be with them. Typical of who they are, on the day before we were to depart, our suitcase which has been lugged all over the world many times- died. I mean it really died. We were by then just completing the conference in the Taiping. Upon hearing what had happened a young couple who are reasonably new to the Penang Branch immediately unpacked their suitcase which was ready for the trip back home to Penang - and gave it to us. Thank you Neil and Faye for your kindness! The conference was hosted by the Taiping Branch and everything was superbly organized, again the hallmark of committed relationships at work. Topics we covered included: Maintaining Community in Adverse Conditions [ following the earthquakes] Biblical base for Home and Community leadership Things that Work against Us Strengthening our Lives Challenges and Joys And How to Walk the Talk All of our friends in Malaysia well know that Roger does not go well in 33 degrees C and higher, and that his preference is for a colder wind and snow swept mountain ridge at altitude. But the intense heat and humidity is well compensated by the joy of relationship with people looking to do exactly what we strive to do: live the life we are called to in committed relationships - life in Covenant Community. Roger and Veronica *** The young lady in black in the above photo is Jessica and she is attending Summer Oasis /EDGE and staying in the Single Women s Household. Wonderful!

APPEAL FOR GIFTS FOR FAMILIES OR MATERIALS FOR CHILDREN IN FIJI On 8 October we will be returning to Fiji to train leaders for Children s Ministry and to start the journey of establishing a Youth and Young Adults Ministry, Encounter Jesus. Veronica and I will be accompanied by two Branch members being Tili Loa and Rachael Martis. Rachael flies into Fiji direct from her recent training and community service in the United States. This is an opportunity for any member who feels they would like to assist to consider: Giving a small financial gift to directly assist a person or family in need. Or donating smaller items which could be used to establish the new Children s Ministry, such a books, crayons, felt pads, etc. If you can help please Roger and/or get whatever you would like to gift to him by Saturday 5 October. SPRING FIESTA 2012 AUCKLAND BRANCH This Spring Fiesta was an experience of growing in faith and witnessing God s faithfulness. As we began to plan and prepare we had at the back of our minds the resounding success of last year s Spring Fiesta. And we were wondering how to match that. But God had His own plans. Every day that drew us closer to 25th Aug (the big day) revealed more and more of the hand of the Lord. 4 As Harry said when he announced the final figure raised, planning was the easy part it was the carrying out of the plans that was the true challenge. But God went ahead of us and made a way. The core team and the supporting team met to pray and we saw the most amazing answers from our heavenly Father. At one of the intercessory sessions Harry led by sharing a video of the boy who willingly gave five loaves and two fishes (John 6:9) and that is what we witnessed this year. Brothers and sisters willingly came forward generously sharing their five loaves and two fishes and the Lord as He did back then by the sea of Galilee, did it again and in His faithfulness multiplied it. Although there were two other competing events happening at the same time, we saw a total sell out of tickets three weeks before the actual day. One sister from inspired us by sowing from her tough situation. We had anonymous donors give beyond expectation and in mysterious ways the Lord arranged divine appointments that opened the doors for even more donations. Not only did people give, they also commended the Lamb of God Community saying, your group are such lovely people and do such good work.

5 When it came time to pick up resources like table cloths and balloons the shop happened to have a sale. What a coincidence people would say but we knew it was more of a God incidence. The ambience of the hall was created by our newlyweds, with help from the young and the not so young. People gave of their time, talents, energy and more. We heard of people wading through their soggy backyards gathering mint for biryani and others using their cars like a taxi ferrying people and tables from one point to another. Families fresh out of mourning the loss of loved ones worked to make hampers and food. But it was all done with joy and in a true spirit of unity. When the day finally arrived the Lord blessed us with perfect weather. Like pieces in a jigsaw everything came together and the evening unfolded. We were blessed to have a couple join us from and a brother fly down all the way from Perth. The spring themed colours and beaming smiles welcomed all who entered the hall. We opened with prayer and after that all was a whiz as people lined up to buy food coupons. This time the lip smacking food was a total sell out and soon it was time for dancing. There too the Lord revealed His awesome faithfulness. There was a problem with the sound system and a brother was requested to make a prayer. What followed was a witness to both the Community members as well as the guests. The Lord answered the prayer which was backed by a loud Amen. This Fiesta was about more than raising funds. It was about raising people and building them up to higher levels. It was not about what we could do for God but all about what He did through us. It is now almost a fortnight since the Fiesta but word still keeps rolling in about what a wonderful and blessed time was had by all. Thanks indeed to God for His faithfulness and His gift of faith which saw another successful Spring Fiesta.

6 Great is Thy faithfulness Lord God Almighty. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me. Your faithfulness continues through all generations. Ps. 119:90a Shalini Saldanha PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY- WHAT CAN WE DO? Dear Brothers, God s peace and blessing be with all of you in your service to His people! As Jean mentioned in his address at the ICM [International Coordinators Meeting], we want to continue to encourage strong participation in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity across the entire Sword of the Spirit. We are hoping that on-going participation in this event will serve to strengthen our ecumenical identity as a core element of our mission. As a reminder, our purposes in participating in this event are threefold: Provide a common mechanism for focused intercession for ecumenism Join with other Christians from around the world in this prayer Use this observance as a vehicle to raise the profile of our ecumenical call in all Sword of the Spirit communities The week of prayer for 2013 will be observed from January and the materials for the observance have been developed by an ecumenical Christian student group in India. They chose as the theme What does God require of us? based on Micah 6:6-8. The church in India deals directly with many issues of social injustice and alienation and so the readings and commentary for this year speak especially to these issues. We have edited the commentaries slightly to make it applicable to all our communities while preserving the spirit of the original. As we did last year, we will provide a set of materials to assist the local communities in their observance meditations, family prayers, etc. These will be provided in a printable booklet format for easy distribution. We will make sure you have these materials no later than December. Additional resources such as worship service outlines can be found at the websites for the World Council of Churches or The Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

7 At this time we are simply writing to remind you of our desire to continue and strengthen our participation so that you can include this in your pastoral plan for next year. As part of that planning we also wanted to pass on some good ideas from various communities who participated actively in the past years. Please see the attached list of these ideas and feel free to implement those that fit your local situation. Brothers, thank you in advance for your attention and support for this matter. This will be an excellent way to gather the whole Sword of the Spirit in prayer for this important issue so close to the Father s heart. In Christ, Jean Barbara Dave Hughes Bruce Yocum Good Ideas for the Observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: Local community experiences from 2011: Nazareth, Dublin: we instigated an evening of worship with an evangelical church (with whom we had never shared before and who kindly responded to our invitation by saying we could join them in their premises!). People of God, Pittsburgh: In our community we held a Men s Breakfast with a speaker from the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh. We had 48 men attend. There were at least five denominations represented. There were three pastors and a deacon there as well. Then thirty-four of our people attended the worship service at Hiland Presbyterian Church (where we hold our community gatherings). I was given a few moments to speak about our call and mission. In return, a few of their folks attended our gathering later (3 pm) in the afternoon. Hiland Pastor addressed our community with a few words on Christian unity. In this way, we were able to not only talk and pray about Christian unity, but also, demonstrate it. Brot des Lebens, Munich: We started with a talk at our community gathering before the week for which we used part of the talk outline and in addition 2 papers of the Catholic Church: Unitatis Redintegratio [Decree on Ecumenism] and Ut Unum Sint [ That All May Be One ]. During the week we had a prayer meeting every evening from pm for which I had translated the prayer booklet. Everybody got a copy of the German version so they could use it for their personal prayer as well. The scripture passages, the comment and the prayers were very well received. For the last evening we organized separate men s and women s meetings with speakers from the YMCM. Other ideas for observance: Devote time at your gathering during the week of prayer for common intercession using the intercession topics from the prayer guides. Invite a local church or church leaders to a time of prayer together. There is an approved outline for an ecumenical service at the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity website that can be used if desired. Call the community to a common day of fasting during the week of observance. Have your local youth group do a 24 hour prayer watch to intercede. Encourage small groups to take time to intercede together.

8 CHALLENGES IN LIVING TOGETHER AS COMMUNITY Resource for House Group Discussion by Tom Caballes Overcoming Self-Pity October 2012 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. [James 1:2-4] Life has its share of ups and downs. One character in the Bible who experienced the extremes of ups and downs was Job - he was a blameless and upright man and God approved of him. He was a blessed man in many ways but he was severely tested when he almost lost all that he had. Yet his initial response was: The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. [Job 1:21] But when he was tested for the 2nd time, he relented to selfpity. He cursed the day he was born and sought to be vindicated in God s eyes. At the end, Job could not and did not win against God; he repented and God restored his fortunes back. So How Do We Overcome Self-Pity? 1. Let us be honest: self-pity is a bad attitude and a very bad habit; it is our choice whether to dwell on self-pity or not. It is like a child pouting to his or her parents. It is constantly dwelling on one s hurts, anger or misfortunes. It keeps us self-focused rather than other-focused and Godfocused. It prevents us from serving God and serving one another; it is essentially selfish. It is destructive to one s emotional health. 2. We need to grow in faith that God is in control of everything, and that He knows the future for us. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. [Romans 8:28] 3. Be thankful for your blessings focus on those, rather than our misfortunes. Everything belongs to God. In the eyes of God, we have no rights in our lives, everything comes from God s grace; all are gifts from God that we cannot claim we deserved in the first place. 4. We need to focus on the blessings of others, and not dwell on your misfortunes. It is not healthy to compare our misgivings to others blessings. As we experience a need, we should pray for our needs in faith and then release them to God. 5. God is a God of the impossible. He wants us to ask, seek him and knock [Matthew 7:7-11] without tiring, like the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8. We need to be patient and persevere. 6. If we have been abused, mistreated and experienced injustice in the past, we need to forgive and release those who offended us to God. We need to be free from anger and resentments that can constantly hound us towards giving in to self-pity. Other Scripture References 1. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. [1 Thessalonians 5:15-18] 2. Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. [1 Peter 3:8-9] 3. Other Scripture references: 2 Corinthians 7:9-10; Psalm 37:1-11; James 5:10-11; 1 Corinthians 13:4-6; Psalm 135:14. For Personal Reflection and Group Sharing: 1. Do I have the habit of comparing my misfortunes with others blessings? Do I indulge in selfpity? What do I need to do to overcome it? 2. Do I hold on to my memory of being abused, hurt, being rejected and suffering injustice in the past? What prevents me from forgiving those who offended me?

12 PRAYERWATCH - SOLDIERS OF CHRIST, ARISE Fight the good fight Over the years we have received an occasional prophetic word calling us to unity and the first six months of this year are no different as the following three summarized words were received. West Prophetic Word 24 June 2012: Colossians 3:12-17: Therefore, as God s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wellington Prophetic Word 12 February 2012: Ephesians 4: 1-6: Live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. We have one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all. Prophecy 10 June 2012: Every one of us getting a tongue of fire above our heads they were all coming from the same fire, from the same place we were all given the same strength and we were all part of the same Lamb, the same God and Jesus had made us part of him Unity is something we often take for granted but we need to occasionally look at the vision God is calling us to and look at how we are living it. Unity is important as we are called to be one with God, one in the way we live so others will see we are the fifth gospel. As we are called to be a people, we need to be seen to love each other and not be upset by any differences we may have. We also need to be in unity as we pray the Prayerwatch, even though we pray as individuals in our allotted time slots as part of a spiritual wall surrounding the Lamb of God Community. We need to pray as one as we spend our hour on watch during each week using the updated prayers, keeping up with the updates so our prayers are in unity with the needs of the community. Passing the Watch is another area that increases the unity of the Watch as we communication with the warrior we pass the Watch to. Even if we are unable to take time to pray the Watch we should be aware of the needs of the Lamb of God Community and pray in unity. If you have any comments or questions concerning the Prayerwatch then please send them to me or give them to one of your branch leaders to send to me. God bless and watch over you all. Alan McKenzie - National Coordinator, Prayerwatch
