A Baptism preparation session is required for parents. Faith Formation religious education is part of a Whole Parish Catechesis program for Faith Formation. It includes Parents and children/youth. It meets monthly in conjunction with Sunday Mass. Families must register in parish. All adults are also welcome to attend the parent/adult session. Marriage Couples need to make an appointment with the priest or deacon at least eight months prior to the requested date. Do not make reception arrangement until a date has been confirmed by the pastor. Anointing the Sacrament of the Sick is administrated as needed to those who are seriously ill. Please contact the parish office. Reconciliation Communal services scheduled throughout the year or by appointment. (right at the bottom of the hill!) Serving pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee from 8:30am 11:30am. Yes, you can still attend 10am Mass AND make it to the bottom of the hill by 11:30 for a delicious pancake breakfast! Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased after Mass today or in the parish center or just show up on Sunday, April 22nd for breakfast! All proceeds to benefit the Columbiettes Scholarship Awards at Lake George High School. The Annual Ecumenical Boat Cruise is scheduled for Sunday, May 6th with boarding taking place at 4:30pm and returning to the dock at 7pm. Tickets are free and will be available at Mass next weekend. A reminder that there is a snack bar on board for reasonably priced food and drinks, as we are not permitted to bring our own food. 3 Fourth Sunday of Easter Live the Liturgy Inspiration for the week... There is something comforting about knowing that we are in someone's care. Children can feel this most easily when surrounded by the embrace of a mother or father. All is well. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. We don't have to figure out all of the complexities of life. All we need to do is allow Jesus to be the true shepherd of our lives: to point us in the right direction, lead us to the best pasture, and keep us safe from harm. So many things in the world can hurt us, and we can quickly find that we are on the road to despair. Keeping focused on Jesus, remaining close to him, allows us to develop the gifts and talents God has given us and discover the key to true happiness. Jesus welcomes me with all of my doubts and fears, limitations and sins. WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED Question: Can you explain what we mean by a vocation or calling? I have heard this term used in many different contexts and am not sure what it means. Does it apply to religious life? Answer: A vocation or calling refers to a spiritual experience whereby a person senses within oneself the closeness of God and what he is asking in one's life. It is a realization of what one's part in God's plan could be. Vocation comes in all kinds of ways. Some are as dramatic as St. Paul's, being knocked off his horse, blinded, and hearing God's voice. Others are less dramatic, often occurring over time through little events and personal interests. Others happen in a hurry, accompanied by great spiritual insight or conversion. We often think that this applies to religious vocation, but in fact, every Christian has a vocation, a calling to serve others in and through the Church. Whether married or single, religious or lay, we are all called to live out our baptismal commitment to preach and teach the Gospel message. Each of us has our role to play in God's plan, and we become coworkers with God in the work of redemption. With a little confidence, a willing spirit, and God's grace, we can and will respond to his unique call. Knights of Columbus Corner. 4 Family Faith Formation the next and final Session is May 6th. at 8:45 in the Parish Center... Sacred Heart Catholic Community FREE Community Dinner Program On Wednesday, May 2nd, our last dinner for the season will be served! Our Annual BBQ, 5-6pm. Please join us and bring a friend! H.A.R.K. Helping, Aiding, Reaching Kids (Local Kids) Sacred Heart s (HARK) Ministry will be having their second quarter yearly collection helping our local children. To get a head start and not overlap with other Sacred Heart Ministries in the summer, our spring collection will be for Lake George Children in need, of school supplies. Please remember school supplies are not just needed in September but throughout the school year. The collection will take place on April 28th and 29 th, bags with a list of items needed will be handed out after the Masses on April 21 st and 22 nd. For your convenience there will be 2 collections boxes for those wishing to donate, the first box will be in the parish center and the second box will be in the back of the church. Anyone interested in making a monetary donation please make check out to HARK Ministry/ Sacred Heart Church or in the form of a gift card to Wal-Mart or Staples so we may purchase school supplies when they have their big back to school sale. When God s children are in need, you be the one to help them out. A note from our Music Director, Regina Newell Dear Sacred Heart Community, I want to let you know I ve made the decision to step down as Music Ministry Director here at Sacred Heart Church. I will truly miss praying and singing with you every week as we have done over these past 16 years. You are a wonderful, warm, welcoming, faith-filled and compassionate people. I am not exaggerating y saying that I believe I have grown closer to God because of my experience here. I am very grateful to all you for that. I love so many of the hymns we have sung/prayed together. One that come to mind is: #367 In This Place which says, It is Jesus, who fills, He is here in the place. How true! Another hymn, #435 Isaiah 49 is taken from the Old Testament and begins: I will never forget you, my people That was my husband Bob s favorite! Well, I too will never forget you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God s grace and peace be with you all. Regina Newell GOSPEL MEDITATION April 22, th Sunday of Easter Today's Gospel occurs in the middle of Jesus' ministry. At first, Jesus' words seem to be about the value of self-sacrifice in a leader. "I am the Good Shepherd? I will lay down my life for the sheep." The Apostles likely would have accepted these words easily enough. But then comes something more strange. "I lay down my life in order to take it up again? I have power to lay it down and power to take it up again." Only later, when Jesus opened the Scriptures to them after his resurrection, would the Apostles understand his words. Only then would they understand why such an act was necessary for the salvation of the world. Even now, we may struggle with the necessity of Holy Week. How often do we hear complaints against the silence of God, as if He is the "hired man" who "runs away" from suffering? Jesus' life, death, and resurrection is our redemption in fact. God himself bears the full weight of sin's consequences. The Paschal Mystery is also a sign that happens in full view of the human experience. We have seen Jesus lay down his life. We have seen him accompany others. "I know mine and mine know me." We have seen him reach those outside the traditional flock, "sheep not of this fold." Jesus is the Good Shepherd, not only in Scripture but in our daily lives. While we can't experience physically walking alongside him like the Apostles did, the grace of our redemption continues through the Church. We are shepherded by the sacraments, by faith formation, by good mentors. At the same time, we are not only the sheep. In imitating Jesus, we, too, are invited to lay down our lives for others. We can be the hands, feet, and shepherd's crook of Christ. What did not lie in my plan lay in God's plan... from God's perspective--nothing is accidental. --St. Edith Stein
