2 A Message From Father Gene: Dear Friends, May the Grace and Peace of the Risen Lord Jesus fill you hearts today! Don t be confused! The Church celebrates the Ascension of the Lord today while our na on celebrates Mother s Day. The reader s guide that we use for bible study points out that when we speak about the Ascension we dis nguish between an event that concluded Jesus appearances a er his Resurrec on and the theological meaning of the event. A er the last recorded appearances, Jesus was no longer physically present within the Church. Other New Testament passages (for example; John 20:17 and Luke 24:50-51) imply that the Ascension took place on the same day as the Resurrec on. We tend to separate the two mysteries in me, but the theological meaning so encompasses both, Resurrec on and Ascension; it is the Glorifica on of Christ. (Page 169-Workbook for lectors.) St. Paul in his le er to the Ephesians today writes, May the eyes of your heats be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to His call The biblical author gives us a powerful image to focus our a en on on this Mother s Day. Maybe I am just being to nostalgic on the Mother s Day, but both my Mother and her Mother (my Grandma Bradford) had powerful observant eyes. Read the line again: May the eyes of your heart be enlightened that you may know what is the hope that belongs to His call. I used to get so upset when I would visit my Mother in the nursing home and she wasn t wearing her glasses. I would ask the aide why my Mother wasn t wearing her glasses. O en they would ask does she wear glasses?, and my blood pressure would rise. O en I would take off her glasses to clean them. So Paul uses the image to draw our a en on to look deeply into the person that you are with. See beyond the mere physical and take in the whole person. Our secular world is so focused on the physical material world that we fail to recognize the Interior, the hope that belongs to the call that we receive. The call to be daughters and sons, the call to be a child of God, the call that makes all life ma er. How many mes do you ask someone What are looking at? I am looking at you and seeing the person God has created. I see with the eyes of Faith that cancels out the faults and weaknesses that o en get in our way of genuinely loving. The eyes of our hearts are free of prejudice and truly offer hope because sin has been removed. Happy Mother s Day! P.S. Next week is the Feast of Pentecost; the color of the day is RED. 6 Teacher Appreciation Week is upon us. Teachers play a key role in the growth and development of students and are one of the most influential adults in a child s life. I would personally like to thank all of the STA teachers and staff for all their hard work and dedication, not just this week, but all year long! Why God Created Teachers by Nick Chaos: When God created teachers, he gave us special friends to help us understand his world and truly comprehend the beauty and the wonder of everything we see, and become a better person with each discovery. When God created teachers, he gave us special guides to show us ways in which to grow so we can all decide how to do what s right instead of wrong, to lead us so that we can lead and learn how to be strong. Why God created teachers, in his wisdom and his grace, was to help us learn to make our world a better, wiser place. Thank you Home & School and parents for your many acts of kindness this week demonstrating heartfelt gestures of support for STA teachers and staff! Our K4 daughter has learned academic, social, and religious practices that will stay with her forever! Her love for learning and doing good deeds for others brings joy to my heart! Catholic Central Girls Summer Basketball Camp June 25th - June 29th, 2018! 8:30-11:30 AM The camp is for girls ages 7-14 as they work to improve their skills on and off the court. Our morning camp sessions will include daily stations to work on fundamentals, small sided games to develop and apply offensive and defensive strategies, individual contest, and 5 on 5 game play.
