The country s most violent volcano eruption in more than a century affecting more than 1.7 million people. There are 3,000 people staying in temporary shelters out of the 12,000 who were evacuated from the area. Searches are continuing under difficult conditions, but there are fears that heavy rain could cause fresh landslides of volcanic mud. Catholic Relief Services is working with Caritas Escuintla to assess immediate needs across the affected communities. Prayers and financial contributions are needed for our Guatemalan sisters and brothers facing this tragedy.
