The Church also commends almsgiving, indulgences, and works of penance undertaken on behalf of the dead: (CCC 1032). Our September Masses are covered. 3 Religious Education For Our Children The new year of religious education for our children begins this Sunday, September 18 for preschool through high school age children. We thank all those adults of our parish who have volunteered to serve as catechists; some have done so for multiple years; others are doing so for the first time. We have several substitute teachers as well. Religious education begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and continues until 9:15 a.m. Parents, please help us by having your children here on time each week. When we read the Bible, God speaks to us. 3 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Weekend of September 17/18, 2016 In Jesus parable of the Unjust Steward, we encounter a financial manager who has wasted his master s wealth and faces dismissal from his position. To overcome the crisis confronting him, the steward reduces some very considerable debts owed by poor neighbors to his master in order to help them out. Though the steward has sinned against God and his master by squandering what belongs to someone else, both the prudent way in which he goes about resolving the crisis coupled with relieving people who are in need can be seen as a way to better steward the gifts entrusted to us by God. Although good stewards today acknowledge that they may never use their God-given gifts in a way that completely conforms to the demands of the Gospel, a commitment to using their gifts with prudence and for the purpose of helping their neighbors wins God s favor.

4 Thoughts from Deacon Russ Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sciutto married here this Saturday. Paul is the son of Jeff and Isabelle Sciutto. May God bless Paul and Stephanie all the years of their lives together. There is a second collection this weekend to assist Catholic Charities USA in their work with the flood victims as well as victims of other natural disasters throughout the United States and even here in Indiana. They not only provide immediate emergency assistance, but they help people recover from their losses as well. If you came unprepared for this second collection, you can place your donation in an envelope marked Flood Relief and drop it in the regular collection next weekend or in weeks to come. After Mass this Sunday, you are invited to meet in room 1A in the parish hall to provide input concerning music at our Lord s Day liturgies; feel free to pick up some coffee, fruit and donuts and bring them with you. Thank you to everyone who helped with the parish rummage sale. We brought in just over $1000. One item that those proceeds were used for is a new microwave oven for the kitchen. The old one worked, but the display did not. Thanks, too, go out to everyone who helped with our corn and Mexican food booth at the Edinburgh Fall Festival. I will try to let you know our net proceeds for that next week. Finally, I would like to thanks Jim Fallon for spending a good amount of time fixing kneelers this week. Does anyone have any extra beds they would like to give away? I received a call for help this week from a mother of four children. They unfortunately had to get rid of the beds they had. She is looking for two full beds and one twin. If you have any to donate, please give me a call. It has been a long time since Holy Trinity has convened a pastoral council. Are you interested? If so, please plan on joining us on Wednesday, October 5, at 6:45 p.m. in the parish hall, and we will begin our discussion. Last Saturday in the midst of the rummage sale, Dani Korson and I sat down for a chat with Fr. David Meinzen, an chaplain with the Indiana National Guard who supports the troops at Camp Atterbury one weekend a month. The main focus of our discussion was how we as a parish can support our men and women in uniform who pass through Camp Atterbury. We emphatically stated that the soldiers are always welcome here for Mass, but we want to know if there are other things we can be doing as well. One idea that surfaced was the possibility of our volunteering at the base U.S.O. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, I d like to talk to you. The U.S.O. at Camp Atterbury sits right next to the chapel. Fr. Meinzen always lists our Mass times here when he is not on base. I have seen one or two soldiers here at different Masses. One thing Fr. David mentioned is that sometimes superiors will not plan time for religious services. Let s pray for a change to that. 4

5 For a number of years, Don Pierse has maintained an list of those parishioners who would like to be informed of urgent prayer needs, deaths in the parish and other important information. If you do not receive these s but would like to, please send Don an at Don.Pierse@gmail.com. We will never share or sell your address. Have you heard of 40 Days for Life? It a grassroots campaign of prayer, fasting and witness to help bring about an end to abortion. For several years, there have been both a spring and fall campaign. This year s fall campaign begins Wednesday, September 28 and runs through Sunday, November 6. I would like to see us all do what we can to support this initiative, and one way we can do that is by participating in the Central Indiana Life Chain on Sunday, October 2. I have many people tell me things as they are coming to or going from Mass. My brain just cannot remember them all. If have something important that you want me to know, please call me, me or write it down and give it to me. I would like to our parish to study the U.S. bishops document on Faithful Citizenship prior to the November elections. I suggest we do this after a meal on Wednesdays, Oct. 12, 19 & 26 following our 6 p.m. Mass. I think Fr. Andy is willing to provide some food one week. Please put this on your calendar and more details will follow. 5 Little Rock Scripture Study Fall 2016 Panorama of the Bible The Old Testament Little Rock Scripture Study is the most widely used Catholic Bible study program in the United States; Saint Bartholomew has offered LRSS sessions for over 25 years. This fall they will offer a short, 5 session, study starting the week of September 26th entitled Panorama of the Bible The Old Testament and they are inviting us to participate. There are 2 options to attend: Monday evenings, 7 PM 9 PM starting on September 26th Thursday mornings, 10 AM Noon starting on September 29th Join them as they investigate the Old Testament in this new, overview study. Connect more deeply with the Bible, your Catholic faith and meet some new folks. Sign up for the session you prefer by calling Adult Faith Formation ( ext. #240 ). Suggested donation for books and materials is $20.00, scholarships are available. For more information call Judy Richardson at or Marilyn Clerc at I have heard great things about the Little Rock Scripture Series, and I think you will enjoy this if you want to learn about the Bible. This would be a great class for a beginner, but it would teach a veteran something new too I m sure. It s also a great opportunity for some of us to start to become acquainted with some of the parishioners at Saint Bartholomew.

6 Indianapolis Catholic Youth Conference High School Youth Grades 9-12 are invited to attend ICYC on November 6th This year s theme is Endless. The keynote Speaker will be Emily Wilson and entertainment will be provided by Popple. The time is from 10 AM to 6:30 PM at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Blue Ribbon Pavilion. Cost is 60 dollars + the processing fee charged by Eventbright the company handling the registrations this year. Registration will need to be done online by visiting our group page at endlessindy.eventbrite.com? team_token= o You may pay either by credit card on the website or by check. If paying by check please have those to Angie as soon as possible. Early Registration takes place until October 15. After that date a late fee of 10 dollars will be added to the registration fee. Low Ropes Challenge Course Youth Grades 6-12 are invited to join youth from St Rose, St. Bartholomew, St. Agnes and Holy Trinity for the low ropes challenge course at the Indiana FFA Center on October 30th from 4-8:30p.m. There will be a bonfire after the challenge course. Cost to participate is $ Parents are welcome to watch and or participate. If a parent wishes to Youth News 6 participate they must also pay the $12 dollar registration fee. If you would just like to watch cost is free. Permission Slips can be found on the Youth Group Bulletin Board outside of the High School Religious Ed Room beginning this Sunday and must by returned with payment by October 16, 2016 to Angie Thompson. Permission/ Liability Release Forms Youth Group Members will need to complete their Permission/ Liability Release forms for the new year before participating in any youth group events. These may be found on the Youth Group Bulletin Board beginning this Sunday outside of the High School Religious Ed. Room. and returned to any Youth Group Leader once completed. Confirmation The final class for Confirmation is today Sunday, September 18th from 4-8:30 at St. Rose. Interviews and the opportunity for Confession will take place next Sunday, September 25, during religious education here at Holy Trinity. We have 10 youth from Holy Trinity who will be making their Confirmation. They are Josiah Guerra-Cristobal, David Newcomb, Erin Newcomb, David Seeley, Jake Powell, Noah Swift, Valerie Workman, Taylor Tatlock, Mark Sciutto, and Marlene Villareal. Please keep them in your prayers.

We have an exceptional group of speakers, including Archbishop Joseph Tobin, Fr. Larry Richards, Fr. James Blount and Father Ronan Murphy. Get more information at I attended this conference last year and found it to be most excellent. Fr. James Blount has been at the Women s conference for the past two years and they have found him most captivating. Some of the women have stayed over into the wee hours of the morning to have the opportunity for a private conversation with Fr. Blount and an opportunity for prayer and grace. Fr.
