2 Healthy Living Group 2015 Many folks have talked to me about my own health journey over the last year. I began the journey with our all church Daniel Plan which emphasized eating whole foods and letting go of processed food. When my doctor advised me to start taking a Statin drug due to a small rise in my Cholesterol level, I knew I had to do something more specific because my health signs were slipping. Anne has walked this journey with me and has had positive results. Many of you know I was diagnosed with Diabetes II 5 years ago and have been taking Blood Pressure medication since I was 50. In spite of low fat diet and trying to watch what I ate, I was losing the health battle one additional pound at a time. I have talked to a variety of people, read several books, and watched a multitude of You Tube videos and have made adjustments to my eating plan based on a keto diet of whole food, no processed foods, and eliminating starch/sugar. I have lost 30lbs to date, and the doctor has taken me off Diabetes II and Blood Pressure medications, also taking Statin drugs is off the table! My A1C is 5.8 and my Cholesterol numbers are in the normal range especially Tri Glycerides are half of what they once were. My doctor said this doesn t usually happen to her patients, but keep doing what your doing.. I have discovered my results are not that unique and that there is a large community of people who are taking control of their health and having similar results. I am still on the road to continue lose weight, but I know this is the course, for the rest of my life. I learned that the calorie in-calorie out theory is wrong, that exercising to lose weight is wrong, Pg. 2 A Welcome Word that low fat is an excuse to add sugar by the food industry. If you are intrigued with this information, I recommend a gift to yourself or someone you love, Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes (Amazon.com; hard cover or kindle) as a first step. I am offering an 5 week information class to anyone that wants to explore what this kind of eating might do for their own health. Mark your calendar for January 12, 2015 at 6:30. We will explore the history of low fat and its failure. We will look at food lists that will allow a person to take control of their health and discover a new kind of freedom. This information will provide current resources to discuss health options with your doctor. Pastor Dave Cookie Giveaway in the passing of Judy Sanocki Some of my warmest memories happened around the kitchen table, making and decorating Christmas cookies. When you turn to that family event this year, think about sharing your warmth with folks in our community. The Salvation Army each year gives baskets of holiday cheer to those in challenging straits, when a gift of neighborly love is most treasured. Enjoy baking some of your favorites before December 11th ~ Then bring them to the church kitchen on that morning and we ll pass them along with a note of good cheer from all of us. May your Christmas season be blessed indeed! Joy Smith, Outreach Ministry

3 Soldiers of the Cross Youth Group What an amazing group of young people we have here at MUMC! Sunday, November 16 was Youth Sunday and our youth group took over--and what a great job they did!! From the greeters and ushers, to the actors and speaker, all the way to coffee hour servers; it was heartwarming to see our kids, sold out for Jesus and willing to share that faith with the church! Sleighbell After Parade Warm-up is fast approaching! This has been traditionally a project for the mission committee; this year the youth are taking this project on and will be using the proceeds to put towards our Motown Mission trip scheduled for July 2015! We still need some volunteers and will accept monetary donations to help offset the cost. Please plan on coming out in support of our youth on December 6 after the Sleighbell Parade! We ll be serving pulled pork sandwiches or hot dogs, coleslaw and chips, dessert, coffee or hot cocoa. Looking forward: December 14: Youth Christmas Party. January 30-31: Confirmation Retreat (more info to come) February 17: Fat Tuesday Spaghetti Dinner Thank you for your continued prayers for and continued support of the Youth Group! 6 Where s the Line to See Jesus - Here s the story behind the song: While at the mall a couple of years ago, my then four year old nephew, Spencer, saw kids lined up to see Santa Claus. Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, he asked his mom, where s the line to see Jesus? My sister mentioned this to my dad, who immediately became inspired and jotted words down to a song in just a few minutes. After putting music to the words, and doing a quick recording at home, he received a great response from friends. He sent the song off to Nashville without much response, except for a Christian song writer who suggested adding a bridge at the end of the first chorus. My dad then asked if I wanted to record the song to see what we could do with it. I listened to the song, made a few changes to the words to make it flow better, and we headed to Shock City Studios. It was at the studio where Chris, owner and producer, rewrote the 2nd verse and part of the chorus... with goosebumps and emotions high, we were all hopeful and felt like we had something special. Greg and Robbie decided to do a video to see what we could accomplish on YouTube. The first day we had 3000 hits and it soared from there. We received s, phone calls, Facebook messages from people all over asking for the music, CD s, itunes, anything... we had nothin. After a couple of meetings with Chris following the amazing response, we got serious. We headed back into the studio this past spring... this time with guitars, drums, bass, pianos, choirs... the real deal... and here we are today. Getting itunes set up, a website put together, and loving that thousands upon thousands of Christians have come together... remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Out of the mouths of babes come profound truths that many adults can not understand. Hopefully Spencer s observation will cause people all over to reflect on the love of Jesus, and that one day we will all stand in line to Pg. 6 A Welcome Word see Him. We are most thankful to our Heavenly Father to have this chance to share our music with you. Merry Christmas everyone, may peace and joy be yours as we celebrate the birth of baby Jesus. Submitted by Jeanne VanEerden MUMC quilting group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 9:30 to noon and/or from 6:30-8:30 pm. Dec. 17th is our next session. The goal is to make quilts for charities, but new quilters are welcome to come and learn. For information, call Joyce Brenner at RED BIRD MISSION BOOK DRIVE THANK YOU TO ALL!
