5 Wednesday Lenten Service Offerings 50% will be given to ICM Food & Clothing Bank & 50% will be give to Lunches for Learning ICM Food and Clothing Bank (Interfaith Cooperative Ministry) ICM provides an immediate response to basic human needs for families and individuals each day in Maricopa County. ICM provides twice per month: Food Boxes, Clothing for all ages, Toiletries, Baby formula and diapers, Snacks for Children, Summer time Kids Café, Senior Food Boxes, Back to School Supplies, Resources and Referrals, Health Screenings (Medical and Oral). All services are based on donations and availability and a first come first served basis Lunches for Learning 2019 represents the seventh year members and friends of LWLC have supported this important ministry in Honduras. In addition, each year half of the Lenten offerings including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday are donated to Lunches for Learning. This ministry was founded by Ron Hicks who discovered a critical need on a trip thru Honduras where he learned that nearly 80% of grade school aged children either had to drop out or not attend school to beg for money that was used to provide food to the families of these children. Lunches for Learning provides food that is cooked at the schools in the Valle Region of rural Honduras allowing the children to pursue an elementary education and begin the opportunity for these children to gain literacy and an ability to pursue work opportunities after graduation. The dropout rate in the schools served by L4L has been nearly eliminated. LWLC has sponsored two of the 29 schools that are supported by Lunches for Learning and has broken the cycle of poverty for many children served by the program. Today over 17,000 children have benefitted from this mission founded by Ron. Recently, we were saddened and shocked to learn of Ron s death at age 75. We ask you to pray for his family, for all those impacted by Lunches for Learning, and consider adding a special gift to this mission in rural Honduras.
6 What is a Prayer Partner Program? PRAYER PARTNER PROGRAM The purpose of a Prayer Partner Program is to set in motion faith mentor relationships between adults and kids. By matching a child/youth with an adult in the congregation, we are providing the child with another adult in their life who knows their name, cares about them, offers security, assures them they are not alone facing day-to-day challenges; and makes them feel that they matter. What does a Prayer Partner do? Fill out a Discovering Your Interests form and place in basket in narthex. Wait until Pastor Shari contacts you with the name of your Prayer Partner. Pray for your Prayer Partner. When you see your Prayer Partner at a church event, check in with them and see how they are doing, and ask how you can pray for them. Can I be a Prayer Partner? Yes, all kids and adults can be Prayer Partners. Please note, if you are an adult who has not received a background check yet this year at Living Water, Pastor Shari or Financial Manager, Greysen West will be happy to give you the form to get that simple process started. Please contact Pastor Shari: pastorshari@lwlcaz.org if you have additional questions VBS 2019 June 17 21, 2019 Register Now at lwlcaz.org/vbs Mark your calendars now for our next edition of Vacation Bible School on June with our traditional Celebration Sunday Worship Service on June 23. This year we will be traveling to Athens with Paul. We will learn that Paul left a life of privilege and power to face angry mobs, painful imprisonment and chain-breaking earthquakes all to spread the lifechanging truth of God s love! Children and volunteers will enjoy lively music, small group interactions in Oikos Time, interesting and creative crafts in the Marketplace Shops, fun-filled activities in the Arena Games, educational drama in Paul s Adventure s and delicious snacks. Registration is open for all children age 4 and up at lwlcaz.org/vbs. Be sure to tell all of your family, friends and neighbors about Living Water s Vacation Bible School with no registration fee and a free t-shirt for every child! We need many volunteers to bring our VBS program to life. Please see Kris Crow or Janice Moore if you can lend a hand with the set, help us out during the week of VBS as a small group leader, craft, snack shop or games assistant or maybe do some behind the scenes work. See you in Athens! Kris Crow kcrow737@gmail.com Janice Moore jlb.moore@yahoo.com
