Membership at FUMC If you are ready to become a member of First UMC of St. Petersburg, or just want to know more about the church and the meaning of membership, we invite you to attend our upcoming Discover First class on Saturday, September 6, from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 in the Fellowship Hall. This class is mandatory for those wishing to join, but is open to all who would like more information before making this important decision in their journey for discipleship. Some foods that may be high in sodium are breads, cold cuts, pizza, poultry, canned soup The United Methodist Women and the Street Ministry Volunteers Thank You!! The rummage sale was once again a big success! In addition to the UMW and Street Ministry teams, people we'd never met showed up to help! Besides funding important ministries, there was heart-warming fellowship and hard workers. Thanks to all of you who cleaned out your garages, cupboards and closets, as well as the members of UMW, the church staff, Celebrate Recovery, and the Street Ministry volunteers for making this event a big success. Volunteer Opportunities in the Church Office Thank you for helping us fill all our empty volunteer slots! If you are still contemplating whether or not you would like to volunteer, we can always use substitutes Please contact Diana Lewis at or her at SAVE THE DATES! MEN S AND WOMEN S RETREATS Methodist Men s Retreat October 10-12, 2014 Methodist Men Camp Facilities, Leesburg, FL Women s Retreat October 24-25, 2014, St. Petersburg, FL The Youth Ministry is hosting the service project Kids Against Hunger this summer! Kids Against Hunger packages highly nutritious, life-saving meals for starving children and malnourished children and their families in developing countries and the United States. The goal of the organization is for its meals to provide a stable nutritional base from which recipient families can move their families from starvation to self-sufficiency. For each volunteer, a person will be fed for a whole year. Meal packages are made from four readily available, dry ingredients that are easy to package, keep for long periods, and require only boiling with water to prepare. Despite the simplicity of the food s content, it is a nutritionally complex and well balanced meal. Join us, Tuesday, August 12, 11-2 in the Fellowship Hall as we assemble at least 5,000 meals.

Do you want to know more about Short Term Mission opportunities, both within our local church and within the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church? If so, then you should plan to attend the UMVIM Mission Team Training being held on August 24, 2014, in Fellowship Hall 1:00 PM-5:00 PM. Not sure if you are ready to be a part of a team? Come and learn what it takes you will be well informed and a better team member! UMVIM Mission Team Training prepares volunteers to be a part of a Volunteer in Mission team, to projects in the United States and around the world. The training will help the Leaders know their roles, as well as help the team members to understand their roles on the team. You will learn the ins and outs of organizing a mission trip from recruiting the team, to picking the location, getting support, staying safe, planning the work and much, much more. You will also enjoy a wonderful time of fellowship and connections with other mission-minded folks. The training is required for anyone planning to lead a team from FUMC. FUMC International Missions Committee (IMC) members will also be available to discuss with you our current IMC projects in Kenya, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. We are always seeking new members for our committee. Even if your life circumstances will not allow you to participate on a mission team at the moment, there is a place for you to get involved in missions. The U.S. Military estimates that it takes 7-10 people to support each and every person on the front lines in combat. The great commission, given to us by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, says, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Similar to the military, it takes many more people to send missionaries into the field, than it takes of those willing to actually go into the field. Both senders and goers are being faithful to the commission given to us by Christ. Please prayerfully consider attending the UMVIM training or joining us at our monthly IMC meeting on the 1 st Tuesday of each month, 6:30 PM in room 300. We would love to get to know you at the UMVIM training, at our monthly meeting(s) or both!
