Through much adversity, she dedicated her life to instilling a sense of Christian Destiny into each of her children. Her children went on to change the world. Here are 16 rules she laid down in her home. 1. Eating between meals not allowed. 2. As children they should be in bed by 8 p.m. 3. They are required to take medicine without complaining. 4. Subdue self-will in and child, and those working together with God to save the child s soul. 5. To teach a child to pray as soon as he can speak. 6. Require all to be still during Family Worship. 7. Give them nothing that they cry for, and only that when asked for politely. 8. To prevent lying, punish no fault which is first confessed and repented of. 9. Never allow a sinful act to go unpunished. 10. Never punish a child twice for a single offense. 11. Comment and reward good behavior. 12. Any attempt to please, even if poorly performed, should be commended. 13. Preserve property rights, even in smallest matters. 14. Strictly observe all promises. 15. Require no daughter to work before she can read well. 16. Teach children to fear the rod. ON DISCIPLINE Susanna Wesley believed that for a child to grow into a self-disciplined adult, he/she must first be a parent-disciplined child. To her, the stubborn flesh was the hardest battle for Christians to fight, and Godly parents would do well to equip their children to overcome it early. She writes: When the will of a child is totally subdued, and it is brought to revere and stand in awe of the parents, then a great many childish follies may be passed by. I insist on the conquering the will of children betimes, because this is the only strong and rational foundation of a religious education. When this is thoroughly done, then a child is capable of being governed by reason and piety. (from

2 PASTOR S MESSAGE: Greetings in Christ: It is Spring! The wonderful flowers are all over. One of my dreams is to make our church and parsonage a beautiful flower garden. So I have been spreading flower seeds since I came to this church. You may see flowers on hillside above Sierra House, around the church sign, and outside of both Sanctuary offices. I wish that I will see more flowers next Spring. Easter is gone, but let us remember that every day must be Easter in our hearts. Let us always walk with the resurrected Jesus. A constant prayer of mine is to know truth. My heart daily hungers for revelation of the truth, which is kept and held in the secret place of God's Word. I want to know Truth Himself, so that I may live and move and have my being in the grace, by which, I have been recreated in Christ Jesus. I have come to learn that in my knowing Him I am then, and only then, able to know myself. During the six weeks of Lent, I thought about it and prayed about it. The blessings of God are simply a matter of believing and receiving. They are never the self-effort of working and earning. The most difficult, but yet most beneficial, thing we will ever do is to be honest about the motivation in our heart, which is directing the actions of our lives. If it is God's will for us to bear burdens upon our shoulders, then why did Jesus bear the cross? It has often been said if there is a need, then sow a seed. That sounds good, but the good news of the Gospel reveals that Jesus is the one seed that was sown to meet all our needs. Being a children of God has nothing to do with being the best child we can be, but rather being led of the Holy Spirit, so that God can do His best through us. We have many different outreach programs upcoming for our church; a concert by Big Band Theory, a Car Show, First Responders Recognition Day and a Blessing of the Animals. Each of these programs is designed for community service and church growth. Let us focus on these goals this year and make our church grow together. God bless all of you! Rev. Sangman Shin, Pastor BOARD OF TRUSTEES MESSAGE: The Board would first like to thank Pastor Shin for his one-man campus beautification projects sowing the beautiful California poppies and sunflowers to bring colorful joy to our flowerbeds. Thanks to Phil Sites of a Clean Break for the de-molding of Room 308. You will notice the room dividers are removed, they were too far gone to save. We also must thank Felix Medina, our landscaper, for the work replacing the sprinkler control outside the Pastor s office. Now the area around the Sanctuary will be watered! Please let the Board know of any problems you see around the campus, we need your eyes and ears to keep abreast of situations that need attention.
