2 Message Notes Ecclesiastes 1:12 18 Knowledge Doesn t Change Anything LIFE UNDER THE SUN IS MEANINGLESS I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing a er the wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:14) KNOWLEDGE, BY ITSELF, BECOMES MEANINGLESS I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing a er the wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:13, 17) KNOWLEDGE, BY ITSELF, CANNOT PRODUCE LIFE CHANGE What is crooked cannot be straightened; what is lacking cannot be counted. (1 John 5:11 12) Jesus Christ preached the Gospel (good news) of his coming and called everyone to: Repent from our sin that is, reject and turn away from our old desires and ac ons of self righteousness and self indulgence that separate us from God and the life He has for us. To repent is to admit we need a Savior and to look to Him in trust. Believe that Jesus sacrificial death on the cross offers full forgiveness for our sins, and convincingly demonstrates God s deep, ongoing love for us. Follow Jesus, who rose from the dead and lives forever. Through the Holy Spirit, the life of Christ in us brings new life, a transforma on of our desires, and the power to live obediently to God s Word for all who put their faith and trust in him. 3 Announcements AUGUST 2 (today) A new adult class on the DVD, Fully Alive, by Ken Davis, will begin on Sunday, August 2, at 9:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center North Classroom. Ken Davis is a dedicated Chris an who communicates his faith in a very effec ve way using humor and stories to generate interest and understanding. This is the funniest and most important message of Ken s life. It is a life me of comedy and ministry dis lled into a laugh un l you cry comedy concert that shouts a wake up call to anyone whose passion for life has dimmed. It is the not to be missed performance that started a movement of people ready to start living Fully Alive. Get ready to laugh, lighten up and live fully alive! Free copies of the paperback book of the same tle by Ken Davis will be offered. It will not be required to read the book to par cipate in the class, but it will greatly enhance what you get out of the study together. Pastor Dave and Linda Mealiff will be the class facilitators. AUGUST 5 or AUGUST 9 Youth Discipleship Leader Training. We will have small group leadership training for our student ministry volunteers on July 29, August 5, and August 9 at 7:00 p.m. You only need to a end one of these op ons. We will highlight some principles from the books Sustainable Youth Ministry and Lead Small, as well as overview our new curriculum from the Gospel Project. AUGUST 9 Fundraiser for Missionary Children s Garden Orphanage: The 5th and 6th Grade Sunday School class is hos ng a raffle on Sunday, August 9 to raise money for the Children s Garden Orphanage. The Children s Garden is one of the projects that Russ and E a Bauck (BFCC supported missionaries) work with in the Philippines. Our Sunday School class has been studying about missions what missionaries do, who can be a missionary, and how to share Jesus. You can support our youth here at home and in the Philippines by purchasing raffle ckets or bringing addi onal raffle items. Thanks for your support! 5 Announcements September 2 A new class will be forming for Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University : This nine week class will take place on Wednesday evenings, from September 2 through October 28, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the BFCC Family Life Center North Classroom. Please call Dmitry Bucklin at if interested. Mitchell County Food Pantry special needs this month: canned peas, macaroni and cheese pasta sauce, jello, laundry soap. These items may be dropped at the Food Pantry (12th and Walnut Streets) on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 11:00 a.m., or brought to the church and put in the collec on box marked for the food pantry in the north hallway of the Educa on wing. Thank you for showing the love of Jesus to those in need! Thank you, BFCC We want to thank the church family for all the prayers, cards, calls, and Bibles donated in our granddaughter, Bethany Sailsbury s name. 4 The latest from our missionaries, Gary & Judy Woods Gary and Judy work with CMF Interna onal in Tanzania: Dear Beloit First Chris an Church, You probably thought that we fell off a cliff, but we are well. We are on a short furlough in the USA, visi ng a few supporters, and churches that we didn't reach last me. Much of our me has been spent with our families. We are ge ng rest and refreshment before we head back to con nue in the ministry in 5 weeks. A couple of highlights: 1. The figh ng has stopped in Parakuyu. Our church there con nues to shine a light in the darkness. Please pray for Solomon and Philemon and their families. 2. We have been praying during Ramadan for vision and dreams for our Muslim friends. We are seeing breakthroughs. Keep praying with us 3. The church planters con nue to minister in the 22 tribes where they are located. The ministry is moving forward. It is great to see them helping each other and ministering together. 4. We opened another nursery school in a Muslim community. 5. Pray with us for the Gospel to penetrate the darkness along the coastal region. 6. Our next Church Planter Training course begins the end of August. Please pray for Joseph as he leads this training for the first me. 7. As some of our supporters re re, die or have changing work situa ons, we encourage others to consider joining our support team or increasing as you can to help us con nue to move forward in this Church plan ng ministry among the unreached tribes of Tanzania. We want to finish strong in these last three years. Join us in prayer and finances as we move forward. Ministry of Evangelism (Karen Buser ) This ministry seeks to develop ideas for communica ng the Gospel to our community. Ministry of Worship (Doug Johnson ) This ministry develops the worship service each week through prayer, praise, communion, and God s Word. It oversees the praise teams, music, and technicians. Ministry of Hospitality (Pat Adams ) This ministry plans ways to show the love of Jesus Christ by mee ng par cular needs of those who come to worship. It oversees greeters and childcare. Ministry of Refreshment (contact any pastor ) This ministry looks to love people by offering food and drink in various situa ons. It oversees Meals on Wheels, Home meals for those recently hospitalized, Doughnut Sunday, and Sunday Morning Coffee/Tea Service for guests and visitors. Ministry of Adult Discipleship (Dave Mealiff ) This ministry aims to help adult believers grow in their faith. It oversees adult Sunday School classes, small groups, our Faith Partner program, and the church library. Ministry of Jr./Sr. High Discipleship (Arick Johanson ) This ministry aims to help Jr./Sr. High students grow in their faith. It oversees the Fusion youth groups, fellowship events, retreats, and youth mission trips. Ministry of Children s Discipleship (Teri Henningsen ) This ministry aims to help elementary students grow in their faith. It oversees Sunday School, CLASH, Vaca on Bible School, and Children s Church. Ministry of Facility Maintenance (contact any pastor ) This ministry maintains and encourages use of our facili es for all ministries. It oversees specific repairs, projects, and needs for the church buildings and grounds. Ministry of Financial Stewardship (Jim Gates ) This ministry seeks to handle the finances of the church with integrity. It oversees offering coun ng, financial record keeping, and yearly budget proposals. Ministry of Missions (Jeane e Luke and Jodi File ) This ministry oversees our missionaries, and develops strategies to promote and increase mission awareness, giving, and par cipa on. 9 Prayer requests from last Sunday Praise God with Jeane e Luke for the way God provided for her through mul ple people when she had a flat re in Hays, KS recently. Praise God with Roger and Nancy Thelander for the prayers and support they have felt from the church family as they granddaughter passed away. Praise God for recent anniversaries of Tom and Mary Maxwell, George and Bobbi Link, Brad and Renee Mason. Praise God for the progress Beth Harrison is making on her recovery Praise God for the Arick Johanson family as they were able to travel on vaca on to California to visit rela ves. Praise God with Mary VanPelt as she is thankful to be home to go to church. Praise God with Dick Wise for the recent rain. Pray for Shirley Lafferty as she is in the Mitchell County Hospital.
