4 Activity Center News As the time is rapidly approaching for the start of our project, we continue to ask you for your support. This past week alone we have received approximately $110,000 in additional commitments for the Activity Center, and for that, we are grateful. The Diocese is working closely with us to make a financial plan for this project that will preserve all the hard work that we have done over the past several years to ensure the future health and maintenance of our Parish assets, as well as allow us the ability to finance this project. We have presented the details of this plan to the Diocese, to our Finance and Administration Committee and will make a presentation to our Buildings and Grounds Committee this coming week. We will be sharing more information with the Parish once we have a final version of the plan. Thank you for your support and your prayers for this project! We have received funds from many of you as well as from some unexpected sources, all of which confirms our belief that now is absolutely the time to make this commitment for the future of our School. Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and the Caribbean, a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers present obstacles to practicing the faith. Your support to the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious formation, and other programs to share our faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ. Good stewards know these gi s are not meant to be kept hidden by the recipient but to be shared with the community and beyond. As we begin a new year, let us reflect on the gi the Holy Spirit has given to each of us. Do we recognize this gi? How was it intended that we use this gi? Are we being good stewards of this gi? 11 Youth Ministry Alpha Youth starts THIS WEEK on Thursday! It s not too late to sign up and be a part of this course. We will be watching our first video in the series: Is This It? and discussing the meaning and purpose of life. Join us for walking tacos & food, games, an engaging video, and some real, honest discussion about faith & everyday life. Rsvp to Claire so she can prepare enough food! Last Sunday there was a great turnout at the March for Life Chicago, with roughly 6,000 people (many of them young people!) joyfully and peacefully standing up for the unborn, and showing the world that being Pro-life means LOVING and caring for ALL people of all ages! 13 A Letter from the Bishop... D ear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, During the weekend of January 26-27, our diocese will take up the national Collection for the Church in Latin America. Last year, when Pope Francis opened registrations for World Youth Day in Panama, he said, WYD is for the courageous! Not for young people who are searching only for comfort and who withdraw whenever difficulties arise. Do you accept the challenge? You have helped young people accept the challenge to grow in faith by your ongoing support for the Collection for the Church in Latin America. Your generosity is helping the young people of the Archdiocese of Panama build relationships with one another, with their peers throughout Latin America, and with the rest of the world as they prepare for World Youth Day This is a tremendous event in the life of the Church, and these young people are now experiencing it to the fullest! You have given them the opportunity to grow as leaders and to develop missionary hearts. Please be generous in this collection. 15 NEW PARISHIONERS: We are happy to welcome new members to our community, and encourage you to register either in person at the Rectory, or register online through our website, BAPTISMS: St. Mary of Gostyn offers baptismal preparation sessions on a monthly basis. If this is your first child, you will need to participate in a baptismal preparation session before you can receive a date for your baby s baptism. Parents are the first and primary educators in the practice of the Faith. Godparents play an important role in the faith life of your child. While considering godparents for your child, be aware that at least one must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic who is active in his/her faith. Please call the parish office at to register for a preparation class and to schedule a baptismal date. BECOMING A CATHOLIC: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of welcoming and preparing adults for the Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation - for full membership in the Catholic Church. Unbaptized adults, adults baptized in another Christian faith, and baptized Catholics with little or no formal religious education are invited to participate. Please call the rectory for further information. ANNULMENTS: We are available to help anyone who is in need of information about how to apply for an annulment. Please contact the rectory at (630) LITURGY of HOURS: Morning Prayer (Lauds) is prayed Monday through Saturday following the morning liturgies. St. Mary of Gostyn Parish SACRAMENT of ANOINTING: The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available at regularly scheduled liturgies throughout the year, or by appointment. You may ask the presiding priest before any Mass for an anointing. Communal Anointing Masses are held on the 1st Saturday of the month in August, December and April at the 8:00 AM Mass. The Eucharist will also be brought to those who are ill, upon request. Please notify the Rectory if members of your family are in the hospital or homebound. FUNERALS: Arrangements are usually made by the Funeral Home or by a family member. A member of our Bereavement team will meet with you to plan the Funeral Liturgy. Eulogies can be given at the Wake Service, Interment at the Cemetery or at the Funeral Luncheon, but not at the Mass of Christian Burial. MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least six months in advance to provide ample time for preparation of this sacrament. PRAYER GROUPS: Monday evenings at 7:15 PM in the Parish Center; Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM in the Parish Center chapel. ROSARY DEVOTION: Monday through Saturday, 7:30 AM in the church; Rosary will begin at 6:30 PM on Monday evenings in the church. RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard Saturday, 3:30 to 4:30 PM in church. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available by appointment.
