1 Guyton Christian Church July 2018 Newsletter Web: Serving Christ, Serving Others I want to salute the youth group at Guyton Christian Church for their activities during Impact Guyton. Nancy Summerour conceived a mission trip to serve people in this community, in this church family. Under her leadership, our young people helped clean up yards and homes for church members who needed help. Their service included fellowship and prayer in addition to hands-on assistance. They also repainted The Rock and worked to prepare the facility to serve as home base for future service projects. Every activity and every discussion during the week was centered around the nature of service as taught in the Gospels. I was impressed with how our youth approached every task as a team. They were all inclined to demonstrate that true leadership is found in humble service. and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. There was no hint of dispute among our youth this week. They deferred to one another, lifting each other up and respecting each person s efforts. I was honored to observe them this week. Thank you, Nancy, for your leadership. Many thanks to the parents and other volunteers who helped make the event possible. And, especially, thank you to our young missionaries: Marin Carter, Chris Hall, Cat Hall, William Hall, Kylie Malcom, Evan Oglesby, Jack Reiser and Sam Reiser. Their service to others, to one another, and to the church is the finest sermon I ve ever heard. One of the scriptures our youth studied during the week was Luke 22:24-27: Yours in Christ, A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Please send us a recent photograph asap! Praise & Worship Will return in August! VBS MISSION PROJECT The boys and girls at VBS collected 210 items of school supplies for Guyton Elementary School. The boys collected 99 items; the girls collected 111 items. Since they surpassed the 100 mark, we had three (3) ice bucket baths Ms. Nancy, Pastor Joel, and Mrs. Melissa! Thank you everyone for your contributions! The Fillin Station also welcomes mac & cheese, Hamburger Helper, Rice-A-Roni, cake mixes & frosting in addition to canned meats such as tuna, chicken and ham. Save your plastic grocery bags and egg cartons, too! Collection bins are in the Christian Center. Bring Any Instrument: Guitar, Uke, Mandolin OR JUST YOUR VOICE Sundays at 6pm, Christian Center Family Promise June 17 June 23 Family Promise had a full house the week of our hosting with 7 children and 3 adults. Plus, there are more on a waiting list! Thanks to everyone for their part in serving this ministry. Promotion Sunday is slated for August 5. Rising students will begin new Sunday School classes the following Sunday, August 12. Meet and Greet in the Christian Center for coffee and fellowship at 9:45am. IMPACT: Guyton 2018 June An awesome time was had by those participating with IMPACT Guyton! Our CYF provided local mission work to area families. What a blessing to us all! The Ladies evening Bible study group will be starting a new series soon. Keep an eye out for details coming soon! 5 Wednesday Youth will begin again August 15th at 6:00pm for both CYF and JYF youth groups. Vacation Bible School May 29 June 1 We had 34 children register for an exciting adventure with Rolling River Rampage VBS! We also had 21 volunteers registered and an additional 12 show up! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. Isaiah 43:2 The Junior group will meet at 6pm in the Christian Center and begin a new workshop rotation. A light supper, provided by different ladies of our church each week, will be served at 6:45pm. The CYF group will meet at 6pm at The Rock. Ms. Nancy has some exciting plans to begin the new school year! Remember, we eat first down here so we have lots of time for our Bible study! The children collected school supplies as their mission project this year for Guyton Elementary School. Youth Power! Have you moved? Or do you have a new phone number or a new address? Orientation for new children, aged 3 and above, will be held following Graduation and also August 12. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
