5 The Vows for the Sacrament of Baptism In order for the congregation to more fully enter into the service of the sacrament of baptism and to refresh ourselves on our church membership vow, the following is provided for your convenience and information: To the parents:.1. Do you acknowledge your child s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?.2. Do you claim God s covenant promises in (his) behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for (his) salvation, as you do for your own?.3. Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to God and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before (him) a godly example, that you will pray with and for (him), that you will teach (him) the doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God s appointment, to bring (him) up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? And To the congregation: Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of this child? First Presbyterian Church purposes to stand as a Reformed witness to Jackson, to the surrounding community, and ultimately to the world through the proclamation of the whole counsel of God as written in the verbally inspired, infallible Scriptures. 8 FAMILY WORSHIP GUIDE At FPC, we believe that family worship is important. Recognizing the time challenges of a busy week with work and school, we want to make it as easy as possible for you. So we hope you find this Family Worship Guide helpful and use it in your homes this week. Each week addresses a question from the Westminster Shorter Catechism, with a daily scripture reference, key thought, and questions for family discussion. You can use this abbreviated version by simply taking this bulletin home with you today, or get the complete version ed to you weekly by subscribing at fpcj.ms/fam-devo. Or contact the church office at or receptionist@fpcjackson.org. THIS WEEK S FOCUS: Question 73: Which is the eighth commandment? Answer: The eighth commandment is, Thou shalt not steal. MONDAY Scripture: Isaiah 1:21-28 Key Thought: The 8th commandment is based upon God s justice. What attribute(s) of God form the basis of the 8th commandment? Is there a difference between God s justice and man s idea of fairness? Why is fallen man inclined to deal unjustly with his neighbor? TUESDAY Scripture: Genesis 1:26-30; Exodus 22:1-9 Key Thought: The 8th commandment is based on the principle of private property. What has God chosen to do with the earth and its resources? How is the concept of private property seen in Exodus 22? What is the purpose of private property? WEDNESDAY Scripture: Proverbs 13:11; 2 Thessalonians 3:6-16; Ephesians 4:28 Key Thought: The 8th commandment is based on God s order. What means does God use to increase wealth and possessions? Why does the thief seek to bypass God s order? What instruction does Paul give to the former thief who has become a follower of Jesus Christ? THURSDAY Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30 Key Thought: The 8th commandment is based on the principle of stewardship. What is stewardship? Did the third man in the parable rob his master? How? How do we rob God when we fail to use our possessions and talents for His glory? FRIDAY Scripture: Matthew 6:24-34 Key Thought: The 8th commandment is based on the principle of faith. How is theft an expression of unbelief? How is theft an expression of covetousness and discontent? What counsel does Jesus give regarding the world s possessions?
