My fellow disciples - September 2018 It has been a rich and full summer family vacation to the Outer Banks, chaperoning youth at Lakeside, a mission trip to West Virginia, and cheering Mallory on as she takes steps to open her own bakery. All this in addition to the day to day grind of life and work. I am ready for school to start and a more normal routine to settle in again. One thing I pondered over the last few months during all of this busyness is my anniversary serving as your pastor. It has been four years since I first came to you. Though many grieved the retirement of the previous long-time pastor, you accepted me and my family just the same. We worked together to complete the construction of the Family Life Center, reinstituted a yearly mission trip, revitalized the Tender Times Child Development Center, and collaborated on ministry through several staff changes. In addition, the congregation has changed as members move or transfer and new folks come on board. And, while I am proud of all that we have done together, there is more to do. I was reminded by several colleagues at a continuing education event last month, that it takes 5-7 years for any organization (including a church) to change its culture. Initially it was disheartening, but then that too was encouraging. Sometimes I reflect on all that has been done and think we should be further down the road to paying off the FLC loan or raising up new leaders in various committees or connecting every member to a small group. However, in the context of the cultural change idea, we are right on track. Over $60,000 has already been paid on the FLC loan this year! You all are amazingly generous. We will continue to work to pay off the loan as quickly as possible. Once that is done, we will revisit plans for the construction of the new sanctuary and relocating all of our activities into the new site. I have been very intentional about not launching a program for small groups, because discipleship isn t a program. Discipleship occurs when someone who wants to grow in their faith is partnered with a like-minded person who is a little further down the road on their spiritual journey. This can also happen in a small group that meets for mutual encouragement, prayer, learning, and accountability to living the Christian life. Trinity has over 20 people already connected in these groups. If you are interested in being apart of something like this, please let me know and I ll get you connected. As we grow deeper in faith, we understand the need to reach out wider to our friends and family as well. Finally, we are coming up on our annual church business meeting charge conference in October. This is where church leaders are elected by you the members of the church. Our connection depends on the willingness of the members of the Body to serve one another. Be praying about how God would have you serve Him through the life of the church. A fellow follower of Christ - Pastor Rich

2 September 2018 Delphos Trinity Newsletter Page 2 Meet the New Guy Wayne Wells (Youth Director / Contemporary Worship Leader) Hi, I am looking forward to getting to know the people of Trinity United Methodist Church! I currently live in Van Wert Ohio with my wife Katie (Shepherd) and our 2 children Ava Claire who is 5 and Easton Graham who is now 3 weeks old. My wife and I were married in 2010 at Trinity United Methodist (Van Wert) and have resided in Van Wert since then. Katie is a Kindergarten teacher for Van Wert City schools. She graduated from Van Wert and then received her teaching degree from Bluffton University. I grew up in the Tipp City area, graduated from Bethel High School and completed an associate degree in Business. I accepted Jesus around the age of four and made a commitment to ministry as a young adult. I began playing the piano at the age of 7 which gave me opportunities to share my talents in church at a young age. I began leading hymns at the piano at age 14. As I transitioned into my young adult years I gained a passion for leading worship in a contemporary style. My first official staff position was at Brandt United Methodist Church. I was involved in 2 Christian bands (outside the church) over the years which has given me many opportunities to connect with youth thru concerts, conferences and events as well as being involved in Youth Ministry with members of my bands who were actively serving as Youth Pastors. For the last 20 years I have worked in fixed operations management while doing ministry part time. I am very excited to now make youth and worship ministry my primary job! I am looking forward to seeing how God will work in the lives of the Youth at Trinity United Methodist as well as the body as a whole! I will close this intro with this encouraging word that popped up on my favorite radio station (Air1.com) today it is very encouraging to me as I begin my ministry here and I hope it encourages you too! So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT Yours in Christ Jesus, Wayne Wells (937) The United Methodist Men will meet on Monday, September 10th at 6:15 pm in fellowship hall. Steve Montgomery will have info about 3 different projects at Camp Wesley. He will have pictures and info as to what is needed and what the time frame is to be able to help. He will also have ingredients for salads and we will order out for pizza after we see how many we have. Please try to let me know if you will be there. Thank you. -Steve Montgomery

It is hard to put into words just how much Kay will be missed. She has served as the Mission Committee Chair for many years, as well as past president and vice president of the UMW, member of the Altar Guild, chaired numerous funeral dinners, art director of many VBS ventures, Sunday School teacher and helped in various other capacities whenever asked. Her friendship and dedication will be sorely missed by all. Kay s example of selfless service and dedication have inspired many and made positive impacts locally and around the world with our mission partners. We wish Kay well and thank her for her years of dedication to our church family and community. God s blessings to Kay and her future husband, Jim Sommer, as they embark on a new chapter in their lives.

5 Page 5 Delphos Trinity Newsletter September 2018 Hello Everyone! Wow! Where did the summer go? The students at Tender Times participated in many fun activities these past few months. The staff provided super experiences during sports week, pet week and circus week just to name a few. They also learned to make yummy treats during cooking week. The months of June and July provided great weather for outside water play and swimming as well. We are gearing up for the beginning of our academic year, beginning September 4 th. Big changes are taking place with the addition of some fabulous new staff members. Everyone is looking forward to our meet the teacher night August 29 th. It will be great to meet all the new families enrolled this year. We are always in need of extra supplies, especially with the addition of so many new students. There will be a Helping Tree displayed by the entrance to the center. There will be various items posted on the tree. There are many items to choose from, big and small. The teachers don t always have the resources to provide these items that will add to the experiences for their students. Please feel free to grab a post it off the tree. The teachers will be most appreciative. Thank you in advance. This year we have added a special activity to the Pre-K and Preschool programs. Every Friday we travel next door to The Meadows of Delphos. The first few meetings have been fabulous! The interaction between the generations is proving to be a big hit for all. We feel very lucky to provide this opportunity for our students. Thank you again for all of your continued support of Tender Times. We feel blessed to be in such a community of giving. We are all anticipating another great school year. -Sincerely, The Tender Times Faculty and Staff Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best. Bob Talbert

Everyone had a great time with over 40 ladies in attendance. In lieu of shower gifts, monetary donations were given to Kay s favorite mission project The Heifer Project. There was much laughter and many tears as Kay was showered with friendship and love. With over $1200 raised by the UMW and other church members, Kay chose the following animals from the Heifer Project to be purchased: 5 Goats, 5 Flocks of Chicks, 4 Flocks of Ducks, 2 Alpacas, 3 Pens of Rabbits. Heifer Project gives animals and required training for quality care to people in impoverished countries so to promote a self-sustaining lifestyle. In return, recipients are required to pass on the first offspring of the animal or the equivalent in training and other resources to others in the community. Through this practice, the gift of one animal becomes the gift of many, and a chain of giving set into motion that can improve the lives of entire communities.
