1 January 2019 Adventure School Parents! We hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The Adventure Preschool had a busy Christmas season! We had Christmas programs and parties, and we can t forget our Gingerbread House decorating event! We cherish all of those memories and look forward to making new memories in 2019! Believe it or not registration for our Fall 2019 programs begins shortly! Mark your calendar Wednesday, February 20th this is the first day of registration for those who already have children in our program! As registration gets underway, we would ask that if you love our programs here at Windwood as much as we do please spread the word to your friends and neighbors! Public registration starts on Thursday, February 21st! Your recommendation is the best advertising that we could ever ask for! 2 Early Childhood Development at Windwood Part 5: Sharing First, Happy New Year! New Year s is not a Christian holiday, but perhaps it should be, because God is a God who makes all things new! The promise in the Bible is that the day will come God puts and end to Salvation History and there will be a new heaven and a new earth in which there will be no sin, no sickness, no suffering, and death will be no more! And then the real reason for which God called us into existence out of nothingness, will begin! Everlasting life was always God s intention for us not this life alone, no matter how long or how blessed! That was why Jesus came that first Christmas, and that redemption and newness of life is what the Gospel is all about. So, Happy New Year! And, it seems that our next topic on Christ-centered living by the means of Christ-like character is sharing our toys and playing well with others. This is one of the virtues that is both age and stage appropriate for young children, and one that if they learn it early, will serve them throughout their lives. And the reason for the value is far deeper than just getting along well with others. God did not need to create. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit our Triune God was perfectly complete in and of Himself (this is part of the doctrine of the Trinity too often overlooked). One of the problems for radial monotheism (for the Jews and for the Muslims) is that if God were merely and singular being, He would have been the original lonely guy God could have been capable of love, but in order for love to really exist, there needs to be a beloved. One of the most interesting things revealed to us about God is that He is a community of persons in one essential being three in one, not three separate Gods, nor one God with three characteristics (as I am a son, a father, and a grandfather) but three distinct persons in one essential being, without confusion. That is not illogical, because some things can and must be true about the Creator that would not be true for the creation. But still, it is a mystery. You might be asking yourself (if you re even still reading) why I would delve into such a deep theological discussion when all we re talking about is sharing our toys, but the point is this: Sharing is not a value of getting along with others (although it also has that value) but primarily, it is a function of love! God did not need to create, but He chose to create, because love loves giving of itself! It is the good of the beloved that motivates love, and love is the motivation behind all God does and is. So, in teaching children to share it may begin as a social behavior (it makes it easier to get along with others) but the true goal is for them to learn the value of giving to others. Generosity is a joy, but we don t give in order to be joyous, we must finally learn to give for the joy of the one we are giving too, and then like all of God s good things, we discover that it is also the best for us. We don t love our children so they will be good, we love them because we love them, and in doing so, that helps them to be good which is what we want for them, because that is the best thing for them! Sharing also reminds us that all the things we have are ours only temporarily. All we have, including our very lives, are directly or indirectly, gifts from God. And God is not on a limited budget! He has made us to share our blessings because when we do, that blessing grows. Life is not a pie where each time a slice comes out there is less to go around, but life grows as it is shared. When we have a second child, our love is not halved, but doubled! If sharing helps makes friends, then the more friends we have, the more we have to share! It is another lesson in using temporal things (things, which don t last) to make an eternal difference in others, who do last forever! Use things, and love people. Don t use people and love things. 3 Gingerbread Houses! Of the many holiday activities held during the month of December, the Gingerbread House Decorating is probably one of the most FUN to watch! Thanks to all who participated with their children and to all who volunteered to help get the houses ready for decorating!

5 Kindergarten Experience Thursday, January 31st * 6:30 pm 7:30 pm For some of you, it s time to think about Kindergarten! How times flies! Kardia Christian Academy would like to invite the Windwood Adventure Preschool 4s classes to join us for a Kardia Kindergarten Experience. Thursday, January 31st from 6:30-7:30pm, our Kindergarten and Developing Kindergarten teachers will present an hour of experiences that will showcase our teaching strategies, Bible curriculum, and learning interactions within centers. The experience includes incoming Kinder students and their parents. It s going to be a great time to look to the future!
