Classes are held on the 2 nd & 3 rd Tuesday of each month. Please come by the Parish Office to register or call for more information. Reconciliation The Sacrament of Penance is offered on Saturdays, from 4:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. or by appointment. Sacrament of Marriage Please contact the Parish Office at least (6) six months prior to your desired wedding date to arrange a meeting with Father Tony or one of the Deacons. If you want a Mass, you must call Father Tony. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Are you a non-catholic who is interested in joining the Catholic faith? Are you a baptized Catholic who has never received the sacraments of 1 st Communion and Confirmation? If your answer is yes to either of these questions, call the Parish Office. Sacrament of First Communion First Communion candidates must be baptized, at least in the second grade, and have been attending CCE classes for two full years previous to their receiving the Sacrament. Adults needing First Communion should refer to the rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sacrament of Confirmation Confirmation candidates must have previously received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Communion. They must have faithfully attended Life Teen for at least one full year prior to beginning preparation for the Sacrament (more than three absences without a valid excuse can alter the process). A signed form stating that the parent/guardian and the candidate understand all requirements is also necessary before the preparation begins. Adults needing confirmation should refer to the Rite of Christian initiation of adults. The purpose of this retreat is for our first communicants to get a better understanding of the importance of the Sacrament and to share a day of fellowship with their classmates. Adult Confirmation Classes Sign Up Now Starting Sunday, March 5th If you have been baptized, received your first communion but need to be confirmed, we will be having Adult Confirmation Classes on 2m in the Parish Hall conference room for five weeks. Due to the limited sessions, you will not be able to sign up late. Please contact Deacon Hector as soon as possible, if you are or come by the office to register. 2

3 Dear parish family, 7 th Sunday Ordinary Time A "Lost in translation" can aptly describe to the readings this Sunday. "Be holy, for I, the Lord God, is holy" (1 reading), "you are temples of God" (2nd reading), "love your enemies" (gospel), these are definitely not "translated" well enough into our life. Yet in the more literal sense, the words of the Bible which were written in Hebrew and Greek are also somehow lost in the translation. The profound meanings and implications in the original language used by the biblical writers are diminished or lost. Like for example; there is only one word for love in whatever type of love we mean in English language. While there are 4 words for love in biblical Greek: eros, storge, philia, and agape. "Eros" is the passionate attraction between the sexes, or romantic love, the experience of falling in love. "Storge" is a feeling of affection. "Philia" is friendship love, but "agape" is the word that Jesus uses when he commands us to love. "Agape" unlike the other types of love is not affection, it does not spring from feelings or emotion but it is an act of the will that seeks to do good to the other, it is selfless, hence able to sacrifice. Jesus is not saying "storge" or "philia" your enemy. But "agape" your enemy and pray for those who persecute you." The gospel message this Sunday, at the outset seems to make Christianity unrealistic. St. Paul puts it this way in the second reading, "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God..." We may reverse it, "God's wisdom seems foolishness in the eyes of the world." Surely God's ways are not our ways. But the real world is a mess and the world's "wisdom" has caused the mess. Mahatma Ghandi once commented, "an eye for an eye makes the world blind, and a tooth for a tooth makes the world toothless and then there is no more reason to smile." Either we be uplifted to God, to be holy, or we behave like mere animals. What makes Christianity distinct from any other religion? It is grace treating others, not as they deserve, but as God wishes them to be treated. But how can we possibly love those who cause us harm or ill-will? Absolutely it is hard, it is not natural. It is only with God's grace that makes it possible. However grace is abundant as sunshine and rain. But we can put up umbrellas to block the sun and shield ourselves from the rain. God is at work in our lives only when we yield to his grace. While the issues about evil in the society are many layered and complex, we only submit to the collective mind and action (legal system) confront them. But we have the individual response as a child of God to transmit not hate, but love, not negativity but positivity. At least in our own little way we can contribute to break the cycle of evil by transmitting good, and of breaking darkness by passing on light. We all need God's grace to do so.. Blessings to all and have a good week! Fr. Tony Querida familia parroquial, 7º Domingo Tiempo Ordinario A "Extraviado en la traducción" se puede describir acertadamente las lecturas de este domingo. "Sed santos, porque yo, el Señor Dios, soy santo" (1 lectura), "vosotros sois templos de Dios" (2ª lectura), "amad a vuestros enemigos" (evangelio), estos no son "traducidos" correctamente en nuestra vida. Sin embargo, en el sentido más literal, las palabras de la Biblia que fueron escritas en hebreo y griego también se pierden de alguna manera en la traducción. Los significados profundos y las implicaciones en el lenguaje original usado por los escritores bíblicos son disminuidos o desacertados. Como por ejemplo; Sólo hay una palabra para el amor en cualquier tipo de amor que queramos decir en el idioma inglés. Mientras que hay 4 palabras para el amor en griego bíblico: eros, storge, philia, y ágape. "Eros" es la atracción apasionada entre los sexos, o el amor romántico, la experiencia de enamorarse. "Storge" es un sentimiento de afecto. "Philia" es amor de amistad, pero "ágape" es la palabra que Jesús usa cuando nos manda a amar. "Agape" a diferencia de los otros tipos de amor no es afecto, no brota de sentimientos o emociones, sino de un acto de la voluntad que busca hacer el bien al otro, es desinteresada, por lo tanto, capaz de sacrificar. Jesús no está diciendo "storge" o "philia" su enemigo. Pero "ágape" a tu enemigo y ora por los que te persiguen. " El mensaje del evangelio de este domingo, al principio, hace parecer que el cristianismo no sea realista. San Pablo lo expresa así en la segunda lectura: "Porque la sabiduría de este mundo es locura a los ojos de Dios...". Podemos revertirla, "la sabiduría de Dios parece locura a los ojos del mundo". Seguramente los caminos de Dios no son nuestros caminos. Pero el mundo real es un desastre y la "sabiduría" del mundo ha causado el lío. Mahatma Ghandi comentó una vez: "un ojo por ojo hace el mundo ciego, y un diente por un diente hace al mundo desdentado y luego no hay más razón para sonreír". O nos elevamos a Dios, para ser santos, o nos comportamos como meros animales. Qué diferencia al cristianismo de cualquier otra religión? Es la gracia - tratar a los demás, no como ellos merecen, pero como Dios quiere que sean tratados. Pero cómo podemos amar a aquellos que nos causan daño o mala voluntad? Absolutamente es difícil, no es natural. Sólo con la gracia de Dios es posible. Sin embargo, la gracia es abundante como el sol y la lluvia. Pero podemos poner sombrillas para bloquear el sol y protegernos de la lluvia. Dios está trabajando en nuestras vidas sólo cuando damos acceso a su gracia. Mientras que las cuestiones sobre el mal en la sociedad son variadas y complejas, sólo nos sometemos a la acción colectiva (sistema legal) para confrontar. Pero tenemos la respuesta individual como hijos de Dios de transmitir el amor, no el odio, no la negatividad sino lo positivo. Por lo menos en nuestra pequeña manera podemos contribuir para romper el ciclo del mal transmitiendo el bien, y de romper las tinieblas permitiendo el acceso a la luz. Todos necesitamos la gracia de Dios para hacerlo.. Bendiciones a todos y que tengan una buena semana! Fr. Tony

Most cases of abuse reported to Adult Protective Services involve self-neglect. Many of these people are vulnerable to abuse because they live alone or are dependent on someone else for their care. Texas requires by law the reporting of elder abuse or the suspicion of elder abuse. If you know of someone who cannot care for himself/herself, or who is being abused, neglected or exploited, whether they live alone of with a spouse or caregiver, Texas law requires that your report the abuse.
