Classes are held on the 2 nd & 3 rd Tuesday of each month. Please come by the Parish Office to register or call for more information. Reconciliation The Sacrament of Penance is offered on Saturdays, from 4:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. or by appointment. Sacrament of Marriage Please contact the Parish Office at least (6) six months prior to your desired wedding date to arrange a meeting with Father Tony or one of the Deacons. If you want a Mass, you must call Father Tony. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Are you a non-catholic who is interested in joining the Catholic faith? Are you a baptized Catholic who has never received the sacraments of 1 st Communion and Confirmation? If your answer is yes to either of these questions, call the Parish Office. Sacrament of First Communion First Communion candidates must be baptized, at least in the second grade, and have been attending CCE classes for two full years previous to their receiving the Sacrament. Adults needing First Communion should refer to the rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sacrament of Confirmation Confirmation candidates must have previously received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Communion. They must have faithfully attended Life Teen for at least one full year prior to beginning preparation for the Sacrament (more than three absences without a valid excuse can alter the process). A signed form stating that the parent/guardian and the candidate understand all requirements is also necessary before the preparation begins. Adults needing confirmation should refer to the Rite of Christian initiation of adults. 3 Dear parish family, Palm Sunday Victory parades are exhilarating for the winning team and fans! We witness Astros championship just so recent in memory. In real time, victory parades are after the Championship game. In God s time it is the reverse Victory parade before the triumph! Palm Sunday recalls Jesus triumphal entry to Jerusalem. Alas! The reversal - his triumph is the anticipation of his death on the cross! Thus Liturgy has titled this Sunday also as Passion Sunday recalling the suffering and death of Jesus on the cross - the ultimate act of the unfathomable love of God for us. Irony of ironies, God ways are beyond us. What for man is defeat is for God victory over sin. The Son of God decides to live out in his own body the experience of the final defeat of death and give us the win for eternal life. The Good Shepherd becomes the sacrificial lamb; the sower of the seed becomes the grain of wheat that dies; the Lord becomes the servant wounded by suffering, as the prophet Isaiah foretold. The cries of Hosanna we will hear in the gospel at the beginning of the Mass will turn to ugly cries of Crucify him. We'll hear words of "I'll never deny you," turn to "I don't know the man." Once again we are reminded how quickly human resolve can melt away and how easily our fervent faith can give way as we betray the one we love. Yet we'll see Jesus resist the temptation to use the power within him to hurt those who mean him harm. His way is only to return evil by good, hate by love, and death to give us life eternal. On Thursday we will celebrate the Last Supper, in which Jesus leaves us his Body and Blood, and his commandment of love. On Friday, we will go with him to his Passion and Death, that D-Day the triumph of the Holy Cross on which we gain redemption. Saturday will be a day of mourning, but that night, at the Easter Vigil, we will recall his passage from death back to life, and we will renew once again our baptismal promises. New life again with Him! Will we longingly gaze on Jesus agony and death, and his resurrection for us, or will we only give him a cursory glance? The Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Eucharistic Adoration, and a host of spiritual readings are all means we can use to longingly and continually reflect on his passion and resurrection. Will we? Let us not allow this week pass without us being touched by the graces of this solemn observance. Let us make this week a holy week indeed and not waste it into a casual week. May our meditation of the passion and death of the Lord brings us to a deep gratitude of the love of God and brings us to love him in return and help us to love one another as Jesus did. As we listen to the narration of the Passion of Christ this Sunday, let us make our own the words of that repentant criminal at his side: Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. Blessings to you and have a HOLY week! Fr. Tony Querida familia parroquial, Domingo de Ramos Los desfiles de victoria son estimulantes para el equipo ganador y los fanáticos! Somos testigos del campeonato de Astros tan reciente en la memoria. En tiempo real, los desfiles de la victoria son después del juego de Campeonato. En el tiempo de Dios es lo contrario: desfile de la victoria antes del triunfo! El Domingo de Ramos recuerda la entrada triunfal de Jesús a Jerusalén. Ay! Lo inverso - su triunfo es la anticipación de su muerte en la cruz! Así, la liturgia ha titulado este domingo también como "Domingo de la pasión", recordando el sufrimiento y la muerte de Jesús en la cruz, el acto final del amor insondable de Dios por nosotros. La ironía de las ironías, los caminos de Dios están más allá de nosotros. Lo que para el hombre es la derrota para Dios es la victoria sobre el pecado. El Hijo de Dios decide vivir en su propio cuerpo la experiencia de la derrota final de la muerte y darnos la victoria para la vida eterna. El Buen Pastor se convierte en el cordero del sacrificio; el "sembrador de la semilla" se convierte en el grano de trigo que muere; El Señor se convierte en el siervo herido por el sufrimiento, como predijo el profeta Isaías. Los gritos de "Hosanna" que escucharemos en el Evangelio al comienzo de la misa se convertirán en gritos feos de "Crucifícalo". Oiremos palabras de "Nunca te negaré", de "No lo hago". No conozco al hombre ". Una vez más, se nos recuerda la rapidez con que la resolución humana puede desaparecer y la facilidad con que nuestra ferviente fe puede ceder a medida que traicionamos a la persona que amamos. Sin embargo, veremos a Jesús resistir la tentación de usar el poder dentro de él para lastimar a aquellos que quieren hacerle daño. Su camino es solo devolver el mal por el bien, el odio por el amor y la muerte para darnos la vida eterna. El jueves celebraremos la Última Cena, en la que Jesús nos deja su Cuerpo y Sangre, y su mandamiento de amor. El viernes, iremos con él a su Pasión y Muerte, ese "Día D", el triunfo de la Santa Cruz en el que ganamos la redención. El sábado será un día de luto, pero esa noche, en la Vigilia Pascual, recordaremos su paso de la muerte a la vida, y renovaremos una vez más nuestras promesas bautismales. Nueva vida otra vez con él! Miraremos con anhelo la agonía y muerte de Jesús, y su resurrección para nosotros, o solo le daremos una rápida mirada? El Rosario, las Estaciones de la Cruz, la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia, la Adoración Eucarística y una gran cantidad de lecturas espirituales son todos los medios que podemos utilizar para reflexionar con anhelo y continuamente sobre su pasión y resurrección. Lo haremos?? No permitamos que pase esta semana sin que seamos tocados por las gracias de esta solemne observancia. Hagamos de esta semana una semana santa y no la desperdiciemos en una semana casual. Que nuestra meditación de la pasión y la muerte del Señor nos lleve a una profunda gratitud por el amor de Dios y nos lleve a amarlo a cambio y nos ayude a amarnos unos a otros como lo hizo Jesús. Mientras escuchamos la narración de la Pasión de Cristo este domingo, hagamos nuestras las palabras de ese criminal arrepentido a su lado: "Jesús, recuérdame cuando entres en tu reino". We are so grateful for her valuable ministry in our parish church as DRE for the past years. She will finish her responsibilities here by the end of the school year this May. We are now beginning in search for her replacement. Qualifications: Must be an active Catholic in good standing with the Church. Minimum of 4 year college degree in religious education, religious studies or another relevant field or significant equivalent experience. Archdiocesan Catechist certificate and has training in sacramental preparations and as parish catechetical leader. Minimum experience of three years of parish catechetical experience. Must have excellent organization and communication skills. Proficient in MS software, Excel, Word and Publisher. Must be fluent in English, Spanish is a plus. Basic job description (details upon interview) Planning and oversight of parish religious program through grade 12, including sacramental preparations. Facilitating parent and catechist meetings, retreats and workshops. Communicating an enthusiasm for the Catholic faith among our young people and their families. Manage and maintain the Safe Environment Policy compliance requirements for catechists and ministry volunteers. Must be available to work on weekends and evenings. Baptisms are the first Sunday of the month after the 10am & 12:30pm Masses. If you are baptizing here, you need to fill out a registration form for your child s baptism, and we will need to make a copy of their birth certificate from the state before you attend the class.
