1 Readings for 1/2/2019 Hymns: 283, 224, 350 The Bible Ps. 78:19 Can...Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Ps. 121:1 8 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. I Chron. 29:11, 12 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Matt. 7:7,8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Luke 12:22,30 32 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. Matt. 6:24 27 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? II Cor. 8:10 15 herein...herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. I Pet. 5:6,7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Phil. 4:19 God...God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Prov. 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. Science and Health With Key To The Scriptures SH 530:5 7 In divine Science, man is sustained by God, the divine Principle of being. The earth, at God's command, brings forth food for man's use. SH 507:3 7 Spirit duly feeds and clothes every object, as it appears in the line of spiritual creation, thus tenderly expressing the fatherhood and motherhood of God. Spirit names and blesses all. SH 151:23 24,26 The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness. All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth. SH 12:31 4 In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as a very present help in trouble. Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and

4 bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters. SH 13:6 12, 14 If we are not secretly yearning and openly striving for the accomplishment of all we ask, our prayers are vain repetitions, such as the heathen use. If our petitions are sincere, we labor for what we ask; and our Father, who seeth in secret, will reward us openly. Even if prayer is sincere, God knows our need before we tell Him or our fellow-beings about it. If we cherish the desire honestly and silently and humbly, God will bless it, and we shall incur less risk of overwhelming our real wishes with a torrent of words. SH 410:9 13 The Scriptures say, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, showing that Truth is the actual life of man; but mankind objects to making this teaching practical. SH 3:27 5 If we are ungrateful for Life, Truth, and Love, and yet return thanks to God for all blessings, we are insincere and incur the sharp censure our Master pronounces on hypocrites. In such a case, the only acceptable prayer is to put the finger on the lips and remember our blessings. While the heart is far from divine Truth and Love, we cannot conceal the ingratitude of barren lives. What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds. SH 405:5 11, 18 Christian Science commands man to master the propensities, to hold hatred in abeyance with kindness, to conquer lust with chastity, revenge with charity, and to overcome deceit with honesty. Choke these errors in their early stages, if you would not cherish an army of conspirators against

5 health, happiness, and success. The good man finally can overcome his fear of sin. This is sin's necessity, to destroy itself. Immortal man demonstrates the government of God, good, in which is no power to sin. SH 239:16 To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and obey as God. If divine Love is becoming nearer, dearer, and more real to us, matter is then submitting to Spirit. The objects we pursue and the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning. SH 442:22 29 Christ, Truth, gives mortals temporary food and clothing until the material, transformed with the ideal, disappears, and man is clothed and fed spiritually. St. Paul says, Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling: Jesus said, Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. This truth is Christian Science. SH 517:30 4 Divine Love blesses its own ideas, and causes them to multiply, to manifest His power. Man is not made to till the soil. His birthright is dominion, not subjection. He is lord of the belief in earth and heaven, himself subordinate alone to his Maker. This is the Science of being. SH 70:2 5 The testimony of the corporeal senses cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive, but the revelations of Christian Science unlock the treasures of Truth. SH 180:25 27 When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible. SH 365:7

6 The benign thought of Jesus, finding utterance in such words as Take no thought for your life, would heal the sick, and so enable them to rise above the supposed necessity for physical thought-taking and doctoring; but if the unselfish affections be lacking, and common sense and common humanity are disregarded, what mental quality remains, with which to evoke healing from the outstretched arm of righteousness? SH 226:22 29 I saw before me the sick, wearing out years of servitude to an unreal master in the belief that the body governed them, rather than Mind. The lame, the deaf, the dumb, the blind, the sick, the sensual, the sinner, I wished to save from the slavery of their own beliefs and from the educational systems of the Pharaohs, who to-day, as of yore, hold the children of Israel in bondage. SH 494:10 11 Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. SH 135:17 20 There is to-day danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? What cannot God do? Hymn. 283:1-3 Praise we the Lord, for His mercy endureth forever. Let us extol Him with joyous and loving endeavor; Come let us sing, Praising our God and our King, Should we be silent? Ah, never. Praise we the Lord, who our footsteps still holdeth from sliding; Daily He campeth about us, protecting and guiding; E'en while we sleep Watch doth He tenderly keep; Ever new mercies providing. Praise we the Lord with a joyous and glad adoration; Lo, unto them that believe there is no condemnation; Now will we raise

7 Songs of thanksgiving and praise, Christ is become our salvation. Hymn. 224:1-3 O Lord, I would delight in Thee, And on Thy care depend; To Thee in every trouble flee, My best, my ever Friend. When all material streams are dried, Thy fullness is the same; May I with this be satisfied, And glory in Thy name. All good, where'er it may be found, Its source doth find in Thee; I must have all things and abound, While God is God to me. O that I had a stronger faith, To look within the veil, To credit what my Saviour saith, Whose word can never fail. He that has made my heaven secure, Will here all good provide; While Christ is rich, can I be poor? What can I want beside? O God, I cast my care on Thee; I triumph and adore; Henceforth my great concern shall be To love and praise Thee more. Hymn. 350:1-3 Through the love of God our Saviour All will be well; Free and changeless is His favor; All must be well; Precious is the Love that healed us, Perfect is the grace that sealed us, Strong the hand stretched forth to shield us; All, all is well. Though we pass through tribulation, All will be well; Ours is such a full salvation, All must be well; Happy still, in God confiding,
