1 Seeing and hearing rightly: stilling troubled thoughts Wednesday, January 24, 2018 Ps. 37:35 35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Ps. 119:18 18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Isa. 30:15 thus (to :) 15 thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: Phil. 4:7 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. SH 332:9-11 Christ 9 Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Son of God SH 333:23-26 Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets 24 caught glorious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of Love. SH 566: :1 As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides 3 of human fear, as they were led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised 6 joy, so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for 9 them who love God. 4 12 to the globe s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, as when a lion roareth. It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear. SH 347: Christ, as the spiritual or true idea of God, comes now as of 15 old, preaching the gospel to the poor, healing the sick, and casting out evils. SH 444:10 Step by step will those who trust Him find that God is our refuge 12 and strength, a very present help in trouble. SH 298:8-10, 13-15, 22 What is termed material sense can report only a mortal temporary sense of things, whereas spiritual sense can 9 bear witness only to Truth. Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality. Spiritual ideas lead 15 up to their divine origin, God, and to the spiritual sense 24 of being. SH 481:8-12 Through spiritual sense only, man comprehends and loves Deity. The various con 9 tradictions of the Science of Mind by the material senses do not change the unseen Truth, which remains forever 12 intact. Truth s witness The fruit forbidden SH 13:20-24 If we pray to God as a corporeal person, this will 21 prevent us from relinquishing the human doubts and fears which attend such a belief, and so we cannot grasp the wonders wrought by infinite, incorporeal Love, to whom all things are 24 possible. Corporeal ignorance SH 15:9, To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent, 12 that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must 18 deny sin and plead God s allness. 4/7

5 SH 262: We must reverse our feeble flutterings our efforts to find 12 life and truth in matter and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. SH 381:20-21 Think less of the enactments of mortal mind, and you 21 will sooner grasp man s God-given dominion. SH 296:26 28 Mortal mind judges by the testimony 27 of the material senses, until Science obliterates this false testimony. SH 289:8-11 A wicked mortal is not the idea of God. He is little 9 else than the expression of error. To suppose that sin, lust, hatred, envy, hypocrisy, revenge, have life abiding in them, is a terrible mistake. SH 544:14-15 No mortal mind has the might 15 or right or wisdom to create or to destroy. SH 71:2 71:1 Evil has no reality. It is neither 3 person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense. Wickedness is not man First evil suggestion SH 186:19 The (only, to 2nd.) The only power of evil is to destroy itself. SH 367:30-1, Because Truth is infinite, error should be known as nothing. Because Truth is omnipotent in goodness, error, Truth s opposite, has no might. SH 569:3-5 Every mortal at some period, here or hereafter, must grapple with and overcome the mortal belief in a power opposed to God. SH 242:15-20 In 15 In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant 18 of error, self-will, self-justification, and self-love, which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death. SH 293:28-31 Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness 30 of evil. SH 261:4-7 Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these 6 into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts. SH 264: Where shall the gaze rest but in the unsearchable realm of Mind? We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we 12 have our being. In this perfect man the Saviour 3 saw God s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy. 7 unequalled success in the first century. SH 239:16 To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and 18 obey as God. If divine Love is becoming nearer, dearer, and more real to us, matter is then submitting to Spirit. The objects we pursue and 21 the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning. Standpoint revealed SH 99:23-29 The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the 24 manifestations of which are health, purity, and selfimmolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place 27 to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God s spiritual, perfect man. SH 506:10-12 Through divine Science, Spirit, God, unites understanding to eternal harmony. The calm and exalted 12 thought or spiritual apprehension is at peace. Exalted thought John 14:9 (to saith), 27 1st Let Jesus saith 9 27 Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. SH 536:1 In the Apocalypse it is written: And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for 3 the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. In St. John s vision, heaven and earth stand for spiritual ideas, and the sea, as a symbol of tempest-tossed 6 human concepts advancing and receding, is represented as having passed away. The divine understanding reigns, 9 is all, and there is no other consciousness.
