The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. 4 Man is the expression of God's being. Indestructible relationship SH 8:, God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis. We know no more of man as the true divine image and likeness, than we know of 8 God. SH 48: Earth has little light or joy for mortals before Life is spiritually learned. Every agony of mortal error helps error to destroy error, and so aids the apprehension of immortal Truth. This is the new birth going on hourly, by which men may entertain angels, the true ideas of God, the spiritual sense of being. The clouds dissolving SH : 9 9 As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear, as they were led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised joy, so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for them who love God. Spiritual guidance SH 4: Christian Science is dawning upon a material age. The great spiritual facts of being, like rays of light, shine in the darkness, though the darkness, comprehending them not, may deny their reality. SH 4:0 When outgrowing the old, you should not fear to put on the new. Egotistic darkness SH 8:7 8, 0 7 Divine Science does not put new wine into old bottles, Soul into matter, nor the infinite into the finite. 0 The old belief must be cast out or the new idea will be spilled, and the in- The true new idea 4/7

5 spiration, which is to change our standpoint, will be lost. SH : Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. SH 0:7 We cannot build safely on false foundations. Truth makes a new creature, in whom old things pass away 9 and all things are become new. Passions, selfishness, false appetites, hatred, fear, all sensuality, yield to spirituality, and the superabundance of being is on the side of God, good. SH :4 9 Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind. Truth an alterative SH : Through repentance, spiritual baptism, and regeneration, mortals put off their material beliefs and false individuality. SH :7 8 By putting off the old man with his deeds, mortals put on immortality. SH 40: 9 Some people yield slowly to the touch of Truth. Few yield without a struggle, and many are reluctant to acknowledge that they have yielded; but unless this admission is made, evil will boast 8 itself above good. Touchstone of Science SH :9 4 9 There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no /7

6 other reality to have no other consciousness of life than good, God and His reflec- tion, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses. SH : Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. Profession and proof SH 494: It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good. SH 9:8 8 Now, cried the apostle, is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation, meaning, not that now men must prepare for a future-world salvation, or safety, but that now is the time in which to experience that salvation in spirit and in life. Present salvation SH 9: 8 Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Renewed selfhood SH :0 Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way. SH 49: 7 0 Question. How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science? Answer. Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit. Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love. Rudiments and growth SH :4 Each suc- /7

7 cessive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love. SH 7:4 9 Through discernment of the spiritual opposite of materiality, even the way through Christ, Truth, man will reopen with the key of divine Science the gates of Paradise which human beliefs have closed, and will find himself unfallen, upright, pure, and free, not needing to consult almanacs for the probabilities either of his life or of the weather, not needing to study brainology to learn how much of a man he is.
