WITH CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY Sincere sympathy is extended to Jesse, the family and friends of Barbara Plaster Cannaday, who passed away Saturday, May 26, Barbara filled many roles at Oak Level Baptist Church and will be missed by all. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Genevieve Branscome who passed away on Wednesday, June 27, Mrs. Branscome was the mother of James Branscome. Sincere sympathy is extended to the Martha Sue, the family and friends of Rev. Wilbern Meeks, who passed away on Saturday, July 7, Wilbern will be missed by his church family. He was a longtime member who served his church and association in many areas. THE HOLY SPIRIT BIBLE STUDY Beginning in September, there will be a study entitled The Holy Spirit written by Billy Graham and will be led by Pastor Joe. This book will open your eyes anew to see how the Spirit can transform your life and give you the power "to be truly good" and "to live victoriously." You can join this study on Wednesday evening or during the NEW 11:00 AM Wednesday PTS. If you would like a book, please let Pastor Joe know.

3 New Year Kick-Off Saturday, August PM Kindergarten 12 th Grade Children and youth are invited to come to the church and enjoy hot dogs, popcorn, sundaes, games, and fun fellowship! NEW CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAM On Thursday evenings beginning August 23 from 6-7 PM, there will be new children and youth programs lead by Missy Thompson who will work with Oak Level (kindergarten 5 th grade) and Chuck LaBounty with the Youth in Christ (6 12 grade). Van transportation will be provided. When there is a Thursday holiday or when either Henry County or Franklin County schools are closed due to inclement weather, we will not meet. There will also be no meetings on December 20 or December 27. If you would like to volunteer to help with this ministry, please contact Missy or Chuck. POOR MAN LUNCH FUNDRAISER Immediately following the worship service on Sunday, September 16, the Youth Coordinating Committee is sponsoring a lunch to raise funds for a grill and other fall events coming up. The meal includes pinto beans, cabbage, fatback, fried potatoes, slaw, cornbread, dessert, and drink. The cost is $6.00. This year we have a unique opportunity to see and hear how God used an Operation Christmas Child shoebox in the life of one of it recipients. Irina Creek was born in the former Soviet Union and was placed in an orphanage. When she was 10 years old, she received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. A year later she was adopted by a family in South Carolina. Irina will be speaking at First Baptist Church, Collinsville on Friday, August 27, at 7:00 pm. Please RSVP by August 12 th to the FBC, Collinsville church office at if you plan to attend. Light refreshments will be served. CBFVA GENERAL ASSEMBLY Tuesday, September 18, 2018 Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, Charlottesville, VA Make plans now to participate in this year s CBFVA General Assembly. The theme for is Seeking Transformation. Mark Tidsworth, President of Pinnacle Leadership Associates, will be the keynote speaker. Mark is a frequent speaker, leadership coach, and congregational consultant. Mark your calendar now so you can engage in this time of learning, interaction, fellowship, and sharing. On Sunday, September 30, 2018, Oak Level Baptist Church will celebrate a Homecoming service, beginning with a special service at 10:30 am (no Sunday School) and followed by the regular service at 11:00 am. A covered dish luncheon will follow the worship service in the fellowship hall. Rev. Doug Ramsey will be the guest speaker. He is a graduate of Bassett High School, Wake Forest University, and the Seminary Extension Dept. of the SBC with a diploma in Pastoral Ministries. He is married to Sandra Richardson Ramsey. They have a daughter Deandra who lives in Northern Virginia. Doug retired from Hillcrest in 2010, after serving over 23 years and has served as Interim Pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Stuart, Henry Baptist Church in Henry, and Woodlawn Baptist Church in Danville. He is currently serving as Interim Pastor at Hillcrest Baptist Church where he began his ministry 31 years ago.

4 WMU MEETINGS Tuesday August 28 Tuesday September 25 - THANK YOU In June, the WMU of OLBC sponsored a Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser to help support the Pregnancy Center of MHC. The church collected $ that was donated to the Center. In July, you had an opportunity to purchase resources for the Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School located in the midst of three housing projects in downtown Richmond. OLBC collected several boxes of supplies to be sent to the school. Thank you for your faithfulness in giving to missions in and around the state of Virginia. SHINE September 14-16, 2018 CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center An Event for girls - middleschoolers and highschoolers and their leaders! Check it out on the WMUV website: wmuv.org/events/shine2018 WOMEN'S GET-AWAY Nov. 2-3 and 3-4, 2018 Eagle Eyrie Conference Center Be sure to register for the Women's Get-Away in November. The theme for this year is JUST US WOMEN: TAKING IT TO HEART. The Women's Get-Away is WMUV's annual event for women and attended by women who come for inspiration, fellowship and equipping for ministry and missions! The link to register is OLBC 2018 Goal - $2, Received To Date - $1, Alma Hunt for Virginia Missions Emphasis September 17-23, 2018 Our scripture passage as we focus on our work together is found in 1 John 3:18 which says, "Dear children let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." In other words, we are admonished to be love. Be Love Virginia Baptist churches continue in its legacy of meeting human needs and sharing Christ. Our prayers, offerings and involvement together continue to result in transformed lives. Being Love New churches, disaster relief responses, missions education, after school ministries, summer camps, advocacy ministries with refugees are just some of the ways in which Virginia Baptists are being love. In Virginia Baptist life, we know the name of the late Alma Hunt as a national and international champion for missions hailing from the Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, Roanoke. We proudly call our state missions offering by her name as it serves to propel us on to greater works for Christ! As I have the privilege to travel the state and to see many of you in your churches, at associational meetings and events, I know that you champion the cause of missions many times as unsung she-roes. As you promote the Alma Hunt Offering, remember that we stand as colaborers together with God who knows your name. Let's celebrate state missions September 17-23, 2018 and throughout the year! Remember that Christ followers are called to be love. Gifts to the Alma Hunt Offering help us to love together as we live out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment in actions and in truth.
