From all of us at the youth and young adult executive and office, we would like to wish everyone safe travels during their holidays or at home and that they may enjoy a well deserved rest from school or their jobs. To begin with, I would like to start with some words of thanks. Thank you to all the members of the executive who took time to organize the youth dance at Sts. Peter and Paul on May 24. Also, thanks to all those who came out to support the world youth day pilgrims at their Bud, Spud and Steak earlier in the month. I am certain they appreciated all your support. Speaking of World Youth Day, there will be a special farewell to all those attending the event in Australia on Sunday, June 8 in the chapel at Holy Family Home (Main and Aberdeen). There will be refreshments and a time for fellowship and questions after the blessing in the Link. Please show your support and well-wishes by your attendance. On June 7, the youth have been asked to help wash dishes at Ukrainian Park from 10am to 2pm. WE NEED 5-8 PEOPLE TO HELP US! 2 Check out the new youth & young adult web page: Page 2 What s Up with Life Lessons? GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED: 1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats. 2) When your Mum is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair. 3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person. 4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato. 5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food. 6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair. 7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time. 8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk. 9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts. 10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap. GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED: 1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree. 2) Wrinkles don't hurt. 3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts. 4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. 5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside. 6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fibre, not the toy. THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE: 1) You believe in Santa Claus. 2) You don't believe in Santa Claus. 3) You are Santa Claus. 4) You look like Santa Claus.. GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD 1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. 2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get. 3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there. 4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster. 5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions. 6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician. 7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone. 5 Volume 6, Issue 7 Page 5 MOVIES YOU SHOULD SEE! This much anticipated movie is now available in stores nationwide. Hundreds of Churches premiered "The Wager" and Pastors gave it a big thumbs-up for its powerful story and faith inspiring message. Now you can enjoy it in your own home. Pick up a copy today. Story: Michael Steele (Randy Travis) is ten days from the biggest night of his life-he's the first Christian actor nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. Achieving the height of career success, Michael is quickly cast in the role of a lifetime as the lead character in a classic struggle between good and evil when rumors about his morality and faith run rampant. Will he buckle with temptation or fight to walk the path of purity? The Wager is a soulful story of conviction and redemption that reminds us that, through Christ, we have the strength to do what is right. Highly recommended!!! BOOKS YOU SHOULD READ! True Believer From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Nicholas Sparks comes an unforgettable love story that explores the deepest mysteries of all--those of the heart... This one is about ghosts and falling in love. Discussion questions on this book are at: At First Sight Nicholas Sparks, the #1 New York Times bestselling author, brings back two characters from his beloved bestseller, True Believer, in this continuing saga of extraordinary love. The 2nd book after True Believer. This novel picks up a few weeks after True Believer left off, where we learn that Jeremy and Lexie are engaged. By this point, Jeremy and Lexie have known each other less than a month. How did Lexie and Jeremy know so quickly? What role, if any, did her pregnancy play into the decision? Do you know any couples personally who got engaged so quickly? How long did it take you to realize that you wanted to marry your spouse? Discussion questions on this book are at: Dear John by Nicholas Sparks ~ An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life--until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter read...and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love and face the hardest decision of his life.

6 Page 6 Keepers I grew up in the 40's/50's/60's/70 s with practical parents. A mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a Name for it. A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones. Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress; Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more. But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more. Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So... While we have it... it's best we love it... And care for it... And fix it when it's broken... And heal it when it's sick. This is true... For marriage... And old cars... And children with bad report cards... Dogs and cats with bad hips... And aging parents.. And grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special... And so, we keep them close! I received this from someone who thinks I am a 'keeper', so I want to share it with the people I think of in the same way... Now it's your turn to share this to those people that are 'keepers' in your life. Keep them close ~ Author unknown The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?" I replied: I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me. I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed. Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place. God bless the parents who drugged us. ~ author unknown ~

She is also having trouble sleeping and requests tapes of Pastor Jack's sermons. The Rector will preach his farewell message after which the choir will sing "Break Forth into Joy." Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days. Eight new choir robes are currently needed, due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones. The rosebud on the altar this morning is to announce the birth of David Alan Belzer, the sin of Rev. and Mrs. Julius Belzer Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person(s) you want remembered. The church will host an evening of fine dining, superb entertainment, and gracious hostility. The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday morning. Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday. Please use the back door. Pope John Paul II Speaks to Youth Week Twenty-Three He would withdraw to deserted places and pray... (Luke 5:16) "In prayer you become one with the source of our true light, Jesus himself." --Pope John Paul II, St. Louis, Missouri Think About That Jesus often went off to pray as we read throughout the Gospel stories in the Bible. Why? It is in prayer that we are alone with God, in conversation with God. In prayer we can quiet ourselves enough to listen to God and in listening and believing we become one with God. Take Action Every night this week take twenty minutes before you go to bed to spend time in prayer. First, just quiet yourself. Then open your Bible to any page and let your eyes fall on a section. Read that section slowly. Now, just be quiet and reflect on what you read and listen to what you hear in your heart. Stay quiet and listening for at least 10 minutes. Say A Prayer Jesus, be with me when I pray to your Father as you did. Help me to be still and listen to what God has to say to me today. Amen. Did You Know? In 1956, Pope John Paul II was appointed Chair of Ethics at the Catholic University of Lublin. Taken from...my Dear Young Friends: Pope John Paul II Speaks to Youth on Life, Love, and Courage My Dear Young Friends, a collection of fifty-two weekly reflections on living in the Spirit, invites young people to read and act on Pope John Paul II's inspiring addresses to young people gathered at annual World Youth Day celebrations.
