Welcome to our visitors. We are glad you are here to worship with us today. Visitor forms are on the inside back page of the bulletin. Please complete, tear off and place in the offering plate, so that we may contact you. Also, use this form for prayer requests or for any activity signups. The Lord s Supper will be served today. Should you have any questions regarding the Lord s Supper, please see Understanding Communion in the bulletin. May God s blessings in Christ be with you. Our Lord Jesus Christ's dominion over the devil should be a cheering thought to all true Christians. Without it, indeed, we might well despair of salvation. To feel that we have ever near us an invisible spiritual enemy, laboring night and day to compass our destruction, would be enough to crush our every hope, if we did not know a Friend and Protector. Blessed be God! The Gospel reveals such a One. J.C. Ryle on Luke 8:2639 The fundamental basis of all Christian missionary enterprise is the universal authority of Jesus Christ, in heaven and on earth. John Stott Please turn off or silence all communication devices. Courtesy walker and wheelchair are available at the main entrance. Hearing Assistive Devices (FM Receivers) are available at the back sound booth. Members, please remember to wear FWPC name badges. Visitor name tags are available at the visitor reception kiosk in the Fellowship Hall. Congregation standing
Worship February 4, 2018 Preparation for Worship The Greeting Leader: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. The Call to Worship God calls His people to worship JOHN 4:2324; 14: 6 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. I am the way, and the truth, and the life, No one comes to the Father except through me. Hymn of Praise We behold the glory of God WE COME, O CHRIST, TO YOU HYMN 181 2
Invocation and Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Doxology We respond in praise DUKE STREET Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below. Praise him above, ye heav nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. 3
Confession of Sin We acknowledge our sin based on the Beatitudes of Matthew 5 Lord Jesus, you taught us that in Your kingdom, Blessed are the poor in spirit but we have been rich in pride. Blessed are those who mourn but we have not known much sorrow for our sin. Blessed are the meek but we have been rebellious. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness but we have gone after evil and had too little longing for Your true goodness. Blessed are the merciful but we have been harsh and impatient. Blessed are the pure in heart but we have been impure in our motives. Blessed are the peacemakers but we have not sought reconciliation. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness but our lives often do not challenge the world. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me but at times we have been ashamed of you. Lord, have mercy on us and forgive us all of our sins. Renew us and lead us by your Holy Spirit so that we may seek first your kingdom and Your righteousness and walk oyfully in the way of Your blessing. Amen. Silent Confession 4
Assurance of Forgiveness We receive the grace of Christ 1 PETER 2:2425 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Hymn of Response We trust in Christ alone In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save 'Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live 5
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life's first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I'll stand Words by Stuart Townend; Music by Keith Getty Copyright 2001 Kingsway s ThankYou Music 6
Prayer for Covenant Children Morning Offering We offer our gifts Children are now dismissed for KIWI (Kids in Worship Instruction) KIWI Children (4 year oldkindergarten) Room 211 KIWI Jr. (first and second grade) Room 209. 9 Pastoral Prayer Brian Curtis The Reading of the Word Luke 8:2639 The Preaching of the Word Pastor Darwin Jordan JESUS ENCOUNTERS A DEMONIAC: JESUS IS LORD WILL YOU TRUST HIM? 1. Do you see yourself in the demoniac? 2. Do you see yourself in the townspeople? 3. Do you see yourself as part of Christ s kingdom? 8
Communion Understanding Holy Communion For Christ our passover has also been sacrificed for us, therefore, let us celebrate the feast. 1 Corinthians 5:78 Because we believe the Table belongs to the Lord, it is vital that you come this morning on His terms: 1. You must be in communion with Jesus Christ by faith and repentance, trusting Him alone for your salvation. 1 Corinthians 11: You must be in communion with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Matthew 5:2324; Ephesians 4: You must be in communion with the church (any Biblebelieving church) as a baptized member in good standing. Matthew 18:15 18; Hebrews 13:17 4. Because we seriously heed Scripture's admonition in 1 Corinthians 11:2829, We invite children who are ready to make a public profession of saving faith to complete the Communicants Class materials available at the book table, arrange a meeting with the elders, and thus become regular communicants at the Lord s Table. "But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:2829 9
Prayers for Those Not Communing For those searching for truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me the ability to follow you no matter what it might cost me. Give me an understanding for you that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the life that you promise. Amen. For those who desire to profess faith in Christ: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever believed, but through you, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead and are now representing me at the Father s right hand in heaven, I turn from my sins and receive you as my savior. Amen. A prayer for those struggling against sin: Lord Jesus, give me the ability to see in you the fulfillment of all my needs and desires, and help me to turn from every false source of satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely to me, and run with perseverance the race that you have set before me, looking only to you, the author and perfecter of my faith. Amen. A prayer for covenant children who have not yet made a profession of faith: Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow up in a Christian family where I am surrounded by the good news of the gospel. Help me to grow in my understanding of who you are and what you have done for me on the cross. Help me learn what it means for me to turn from my sins and trust in you alone for my salvation. Teach me what it means to follow you as one of your disciples. Amen. 10
My Shepherd Will Supply My Need (based on Psalm 23) My Shepherd will supply my need; the Lord God is his name. In pastures fresh he makes me feed, beside the living stream. He brings my wandering spirit back when I forsake his ways, And leads me for his mercy s sake in paths of truth and grace. When I walk through the shades of death, Your presence is my stay; One word of your supporting breath drives all my fears away. Your hand, in sight of all my foes, shall still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, your oil anoints my head. The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days; O may your house be my abode and all my work be praise. There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come No more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home. Words by Isaac Watts Music: RESIGNATION, Southern Harmony, 1835 ROCK OF AGES, CLEFT FOR ME HYMN

Christian Education Winter 2018 Questions People are Asking about Scripture: We will have a January minimester on the topic, Questions People are Asking about Scripture. Here are some possible questions we might tackle: What about heaven and the second coming of Christ? What about angels? What about the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man? Led by Darwin Jordan Lecture Hall What s Next?: This class takes the questions everyone has (but is afraid to ask) and turns them into a discussionoriented format for anyone to be a part of. We are discussing Redemption and the Christian Life this winter with questions like: How are we saved? Why are we saved? What happens in the salvation of an individual? This class is perfect for visitors and members looking to meet people in the church and engage with friends. New topics will be discussed each week (unless the discussion is so good it needs another week to cool down). Join us Sunday mornings to see What s Next! Contact Rev. Ryan Moore ryan@fortworthpca.org Hosted by Drew and Becca Ryun Room
