Sunday, November 18, 2018 Hope Psalm 130 This morning we welcome AJ Smit & Karina Nonnemacher as they bring us the gift of music, singing Make A Way. Thank you for using your talents to bless MRC! NO Sunday School (TEC Weekend) Next Sunday at MRC Content Psalm 131 Thanksgiving Eve Service
It s time to start collecting our Reverse Thanksgiving Offering! Slips are available at the information table with specific needs from each agency (Hope Food Pantry, Family Crisis Center, Genesis House, and Orange City Food Pantry). Please feel free to take more than one slip. Each agency has a different color slip. All items need to be brought to church by Wednesday night, November 21, as we will be delivering to the agencies that night. Remember to attach your color slip or the specific color you received when you return your items. A box is available for drop off as well near the mailboxes. Traveling Nativity, December 8 & 9 The Traveling Nativity is just around the corner and we need volunteers to help the story come alive! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jon Eveland or sign up in the fellowship hall! As we approach the holiday season, we have the privilege of having many extra services and exciting events at MRC! However, this does require a little extra help. If you are willing to help in the nursery for the Thanksgiving Eve Service, Christmas Program (December 16), or the Christmas Eve Service, please sign up at the information table! Guatemala 2019 Salt Fundraiser The Guatemala team is teaming up with Water Werks in selling water softener salt to raise funds for the Guatemala trip expenses. An order form was placed in your mailbox; extras are located at the information table. Please place orders on the order form with your payment in the manila folder at the Information Center by November 28. Delivery to your garage will occur on the week of December 17. If you have questions, please talk to Dave Dykstra or Joel Leusink. And a big thank you to everybody that come out to support the Guatemala team at the meal prior to the congregational meeting! We really appreciate your prayers & financial support. A special thanks to everybody that helped with the food preparation. Poinsettias Hard to believe it s almost that time of year again! If you would like to purchase a poinsettia in memory or in honor of someone, please sign up at the information table. Cost is $12 and can be paid at the church office. Today is the last day to sign up! November s Special Offering: Katelyn s Fund Orphan Ministry (see Maurice Moments article for details). Please mark your envelope or check with Special and place it with your regular giving in the offering plate.
December is the month we are giving our Pioneer Club volunteers a break! There will be NO Pioneer Club in December. However, kids in 1st-5th grade will have practice for the Christmas program on December 5 and 12. Practice will be from 6:30-7:30 both nights! Please come for the meal ministry followed by program practice! December 5 Students in 1st-4th grade meet in the multipurpose room, 5th graders meet in the sanctuary December 12 All students 1st-5th grade will meet in the sanctuary Note: Kids ages 3 through kindergarten do NOT need to come on Wednesday evenings for practice! Do you enjoy being creative? Would you like to create a bulletin board (or 2) for Christmas? If so, please give Bonnie a call! Thanks! Strong men, we need you! We are looking for a few men to help set up and take down risers for the Christmas program! We would need you right after church on December 9 and 16 and on Wednesday night, December 12. Please contact Bonnie Wolf if you are willing to help! Thanks! NEEDED: Parents of kids in grades 1st-5th willing to help supervise on Wednesday nights December 5 and 12. 5th grade parents are needed to help with lines Other parents are needed to help with singing Please contact Bonnie Wolf if you are willing to help! Thanks! Do you have any extra plastic grocery bags that you are not needing? Store night for Pioneer Club will be on November 28. If you have any extra bags to donate, that would be wonderful! Please bring them to Bonnie s office. Church Family Prayer Please be in prayer for Ken Budden as he will be having major back surgery to fuse bones together tomorrow, November 19 in Sioux City. Pray that all goes well and that he may have a smooth and speedy recovery. Please pray for Arlin Bylsma. His recent shoulder surgery was more extensive than they originally thought, so we pray for comfort and strength for him during his recovery. Please pray for Edna Vander Broek as she was recently hospitalized with intestinal bleeding problems. Pray for strength and comfort for her at this time. Continued prayers for Joyce G, Denny VO, Marie M, Isaac S, Brent DK, & Ruth H. **A list of current shut-ins can be found at the information table**
Schedule: November 21 No Jr. GAP November 28 Small Group Night Lunch Schedule: Lunch is 2 dozen cookies/bars and 2 two liters of pop or juice November 21 No Jr. GAP Thanksgiving Service November 28 In small groups Please Note: There will be NO Sunday School this morning due to TEC As a part of our learning related to Jesus and our stuff, the 6th graders are challenging the 7th & 8th graders to see how many turkeys can be purchased and given to those who might not be able to afford one during this holiday season. Wednesday Night Refuge Worship - Our next Refuge Worship will be Wednesday, November 28 from 7:25-7:55 pm. All are welcome! Come and join with your brothers and sisters in Christ as we worship our great God together! Middle School Retreat Hidden Acres - Dayton, IA - April Middle School Retreat is a FUN weekend for middle school students and their adult leaders! The MSR will be at Hidden Acres Christian Center in Dayton, IA (about 1/2 hour south of Fort Dodge). Synod Youth Ministries partners with Northwestern College students to plan an AWESOME weekend of worship, large group sessions, small groups, youth group time, and of course recreation and games! The theme for this year s MSR is Grit. The definition of the word grit is courage and resolve; strength of character. Middle school students have so much to offer but are consistently pushed down by peers, by superiors, and by society. God sees everyone as worthy and strong. With God, every single person can strengthen their grit within. Power Connection Minneapolis, MN - July Power Connection 2019 is coming! We will again be participating in Power Connection Work Camp (July 23-26) and Power Connection weekend (July 26-28). Our desire is to provide an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to transform the beliefs of students and adult leaders into a lifestyle of faith in Jesus Christ. More details will be coming at a later date.
Schedule: November 21 No Sr. High November 28 Small Group Night Lunch Schedule: Lunch is 2 dozen cookies/bars & 2 two liters of pop/juice November 21 No Sr. High Thanksgiving Service November 28 In small groups Please Note: There will be NO Sunday School next Sunday, Nov. 18 due to TEC. Come and join with your brothers and sisters in Christ as we worship our great God together! TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) - November 16-18, MRC - Please be in prayer for students that have been attending TEC this weekend, both from MRC and from the community. Pray that God has been moving in their lives and in their hearts. Live Traveling Nativity - December Keep these dates on your radar as Sr. High will again be sharing the story of the birth of Jesus! This event is very special for many in NW Iowa, and many look forward to attending. For Sr. High, On Wednesday, December 5, we will be prepping for Traveling Nativity, and also the morning of Saturday, December 8. Sign ups for various roles are available in the fellowship hall. Sr. High Summer International Mission Trip July Eaglecrest Alaska Missions We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Eaglecrest Alaska Missions (Sutton, Alaska) for our summer mission trip (July 13-20). Though it is not international per se, it is a great distance away, and not part of the lower 48 states and there is great need in the Sutton community for us to come, serve those in need and experience the love of Christ in a much different culture than our own! We will be serving by participating in light construction, relationally with families in need, winterizing homes, chopping wood, potentially helping with a VBS and Summer Day Camp, and perhaps other needs that arise. So far, we have about 30 students who are interested in going, which is awesome! The cost for the trip has not yet been determined, as we await word on the NEXT Gen RCA Scholarship, fundraisers, and airfare costs.
