If married, you must be married in the church. You must attend Mass regularly. The use of your envelope each week will tell us that you are attending regularly. This will avoid problems or embarrassments in the future.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process through which people become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church. They come together on a weekly basis in order to learn about Jesus Christ and His Church, to experience community and to grow closer to God. Are you someone who has never been baptized and who feels an attraction to this church? Are you a baptized Christian who would like to explore our Catholic tradition? FAMILY PRAYER PARTNERS In this Year of the Family we ask our parish families to pray for each other. Before Easter we placed all our family names in a basket near the altar and we asked families to take family names from the basket. Many were generous enough to take a number of names. Please drop a note to the families whose name and address you have and tell them that you are praying for them during this Year of the Family. Please keep your families in your thoughts and prayers. God bless you and them. MOTHER S DAY CARNATIONS The Pro Life Committee will be selling Mother s Day Carnations after all the Masses next weekend May 9/10. All proceeds go to the National Life Center in Woodbury. NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER Thursday, May 7th is National Day of Prayer. St. Mary s along with the Gloucester City Ministerium will have a Prayer Service here in St. Mary s Church from 12:00 noon to 12:45 PM. All are welcome! Spend your lunch time with us! MASS OF REMEMBRANCE AND HEALING For those who have suffered the loss of a child of any age through miscarriage, still-birth, disease or any untimely death. We encourage and welcome all members of the family and friends affected by the loss of this child to join in this Mass of celebration for the life that touched ours briefly, yet stays in our hearts. This Mass will be held on May 11th at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Church 3208 Landis Ave., Sea Isle City, NJ. Please bring a picture or special remembrance of your child. 4 URGENT APPEAL PLEASE HELP THE HOUSE OF CHARITY HOUSE OF CHARITY/BISHOPS ANNUAL APPEAL Our Parish House of Charity appeal started in February. Each week since then we have an appeal in our church bulletin asking for your help. As of today, (April 29th), 363 parishioners have responded with a total of $61,566 in gifts and pledges. Sincere thanks to all who have helped so far. However, with an assigned parish goal of $88, 514 we have a long way to go and time is getting short until we have to make our final parish report. Will you help us collect the remaining $26,948. It shouldn t be too hard. Even if each family donated ten, twenty, thirty or fifty dollars we would go over our goal. I appeal to your Parish Pride. DIOCESE OF CAMDEN OFFICE OF YOUTH, YOUNG ADULT AND CAMPUS MINISTRY On May 17th the 20th Annual NJ Catholic Youth Rally will be held at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. This event is open to all youth and their families. Tickets are $45 and includes park admission, all you can eat lunch buffet and parking. Without some nurturing and care it will remain weak and unfulfilling. Spread a little fertilizer on your relationship. DIOCESE OF CAMDEN LIFE & JUSTICE MINISTRIES THE ENCOUNTER SERIES: CHRIST IN THE POOR AND VULNERABLE Inspired by Pope Francis call to build a culture of encounter that reaches out to those living on the margins of society, the Diocese of Camden s Encounter Series will feature three different experiences meant to engage your heart, head and hands as we strive to put our faith into action. The series includes a retreat day (May 5th), an informative lecture (May 11th), and a day of hands-on community service in Camden (May 16th). All adults welcome. What a lovely promise! Imagine how satisfying it would be to ask for whatever we wanted and then to see that wish granted. Truly, it would be difficult to think of anyone who would not love to see a promise like this fulfilled. But we know Jesus isn't a genie in a magic lamp sent to indulge every selfish whim. So, what's the catch? Well, as Jesus puts it in today's Gospel, this promise is extended to those who "remain" in him. He uses the beautiful analogy of the vine and the branches to explain what this means. "A branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine... I am the vine, you are the branches." The idea here is that we are to be connected to Jesus so closely that our very life, our growth, our actions, indeed even our desires come from him as their source. When we are authentically rooted in Christ, and when his words remain in us, then that cannot help but transform us into people who want what Jesus wants. And when we want what he wants, why wouldn't he give it to us? This brings to mind a quote from St. Alphonsus Liguori. "In cold and heat, in rain and wind," said this wise doctor of the church, "the soul united to God says: 'I want it to be warm, to be cold, windy, to rain, because God wills it.'" In a similar vein, another doctor of the church, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, said that God has "always given me what I've desired, or rather, He's made me desire what He wanted to give me." This is the secret to constant contentment. No matter what life brings, when we truly desire to embrace God's will, we are bound to be happy.
