2 2 St. Maximilian Kolbe Church FATHER S CORNER Dear Loving parishioners, Love and Peace of Christ! This weekend we are invited to live out a total commitment to serve God with a humble and generous heart, free from pride and prejudice. A poor widow declares that she has found true honor in God s eyes. The poor widows in both the first reading and the Gospel gave away all that they possessed for the glory of God. Life messages: Let us learn to appreciate the widows and widowers of our parish community. Their loneliness draws them closer to God and to stewardship in the parish. They are often active participants in all the liturgical celebrations, offering prayers for their families and for their parish family. Frequently, they are active in the parish organizations, as well as visiting and serving the sick and the shut-ins. We often judge people by what they possess. We give weight to their position in society, to their educational qualifications, or to their celebrity status. Jesus measures us in a totally different way on the basis of our inner motives and the intentions hidden behind our actions. He evaluates us on the basis of the sacrifices we make for others and on the degree of our surrender to His holy will. WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED Question: What is the Christian attitude towards violent conflicts? Answer: In the Beatitudes, Jesus teaches us "Blessed are the peacemakers" and to "love your enemies." All human beings are made in God's image and likeness. We are one human family -- brothers and sisters despite what divides us. Christians have the obligation to prioritize peaceful means to resolve conflicts. War wreaks a toll on a nation. Civilians bear a disproportionate burden of this cost during the war itself and as the nation rebuilds. However, those in authority have the obligation to protect the innocent. During the gradual fall of the Roman Empire, theologians began to theorize that war could be just if it was a defensive measure of last resort. The "Just War Theory" was later expanded by St. Thomas Aquinas, who also included moral obligations during the war itself, including the protection of civilians. Those in public authority have the obligation to carefully examine their motives, agendas, and rationale for violent force. Should a cause be just, those who fight and defend under such circumstances must be valued and honored. They deserve our support both during and after the war. Let us, like the poor widow, find the courage to share the wealth and talents we hold. God bless you, Fr. St. Maximilian Kolbe Church 3 On January 22, 1973, (44 years ago), a court decision was rendered which legalized abortion throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy. This decision, Roe vs.

Sheen encouraged the "spiritual adoption" of an unborn child. This is done by praying that one particular, but unknown child's life be spared from abortion and be allowed to continue to live.

To help stop the anti-life push around the world, the late Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen encouraged the "spiritual adoption" of an unborn child. This is done by praying that one particular, but unknown child's life be spared from abortion and be allowed to continue to live. To help accomplish this, it is recommended an individual say the following daily prayer for a period of nine months. "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of [baby's name], the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion." --Prayer of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Most people are familiar with the Veteran's Home at King. Not everyone is aware that they have many needs that they as individuals cannot meet. Each year, the state puts out a Wish List for each location. A basket will be placed in the gathering space for the next three weeks for you to place your much appreciated donations. If you choose to purchase gift cards from our Scrip program, let them know you are purchasing for the veterans. Everything will be taken to King just prior to Veteran's Day and distributed to the veterans. Please be kind and generous.
