1 July & August Newsletter Knowlesville Road, Knowlesville, NY / Sunday Service at 9:30 am & Sunday School at 11:00 am Maple Ridge Rd., Medina, NY / Service at 11:00 am & Sunday School at 10:00am Pastor Chris Wylie Home: / Cell: cwylie98@aol.com
2 Pastor Chris Corner 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2:2-3 Greetings Brothers and Sisters in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Christian life isn t only about the initial becoming Christian. It is about being Christian. A life of faith involves constant movement towards God seeking God. We are called to grow in grace, to move towards Jesus, and to become more of what we have always been intended to be people who reflect the image of our crucified and resurrected Lord. In the end, God renews all things but, this side of the resurrection, always calls us to seek out further growth. God is infinite, which means there will always be more for us to learn about God and more space for us to grow into people who reflect God s ways in all we do and say. Some opportunities God offers us to grow in Him are through scripture, prayer, and joining in worship. How are you doing with these things? As our Methodist Church forefather, John Wesley would ask, How goes it with your soul? This is something for us, not only to ask ourselves, but to ask each other. God created us to be in Christian community. So, how are you doing with these things? How goes it with your soul? Remember, it s not really about you, but God through you. Let that be your challenge this summer To find some way to grow in faith. Even the most faithful among us can find a way to turn toward God and become even more faithful. So, worship weekly, gather with other Christians regularly, study the Scriptures carefully, pray daily, and love abundantly. Find a way to grow in faith, and pray that God would convert you over-and-over again to the ways of Jesus. It s a change that is worth pursuing, because as we continue to grow in faith, we continue to grow into the people who God created us to be and discover more of the joy that Jesus has in store for us. And that kind of growth is absolutely worth the time it takes even amidst the busyness of everyday life. Let today be the start of something extraordinary together with God. May This Letter Encourage Your Soul in Christian Love, Blessings and Peace, Pastor Chris
3 Upcoming Sermon Series Sermon Series - Pray Like it Matters Prayer is a powerful tool. Prayer is talking to God. Many claim to believe this, yet, even Christians sometimes struggle to achieve a vital prayer life. Whether it s not knowing the right words to speak or wondering if our prayers truly makes a difference, there are questions. God are you listening? 7.19 This is How You Should Pray (The Lord s Prayer: Part One) Words shared with God are powerful but, how do we choose the right words? Fortunately, Jesus provides us with a pattern for prayer. When Jesus says, Follow me, we can follow his example in prayer as well. This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6: Like a Kid, Again! (The Lord s Prayer: Part Two) Daddy, please?! Please, daddy?! If you ve spent much time around children, you may have heard words such as these. Can going to God repeatedly, and in a similar manner, be an effective means of prayer? Jesus said to them, When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation. Luke 11: Can You Hear Me Now? When we pray, is God listening? How do we know? Prayer is so important. Still, sometimes, assurance helps. Is that possible? How do we hear and listen for God? Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. - Psalm 143: Answer Me Have you ever faced unanswered prayer? Maybe you ve faced a challenge and thought, Why me? or watched a loved one go through this and thought, Why them? Where is God in all this? Where is o ur hope? Can we really have the serenity to accept things beyond our control? Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments. When I tried to understand all this it troubled me deeply. - Psalm 73:13-14, 16
4 Upcoming Sermon Series cont. Sermon Series One Life to Live We only live this life once. How can my relationship with God help me to make the best of it? 8.23 Every Day God wants to help you, not just in the big things; God wants to help you in your everyday life. Whether cooking dinner or driving in the traffic, whether you want help at school or to be more productive at work, God is there. But, God will only be involved in as much of your life as you allow Him. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3: An Attitude of Gratitude Is your glass half empty or half full? How an attitude of gratitude can change your life? 1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. 3 Know that the Lord is God. Psalm 100: Overcoming How can I know I m making right decisions for my family? Whether you have this or other concerns, overcoming worry, doubt, and fear can lead to a more fulfilling life. Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, Do not fear, I will help you. - Isaiah 41:10, My Children s Faith RALLY DAY God has a special place in his heart for children and as adults we are called to help them grow in faith. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or just someone who cares about children as the future of our church, scripture has a lot to offer on this topic. Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22: Raise Your Hands There is no better place to be when you are struggling than in Christian Community. When we are down, God often uses each other to lift us up. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up one on one side, one on the other so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Exodus 17:11-12

9 Lending Library Still Here Did you know that the Abundant Harvest Millville campus has a lending library? There are many books fiction and non-fiction that have been gifted for people to borrow and read. To borrow a book or two all you need to do is sign your name on the sheet on the shelf. You are on your honor to bring books back in a timely manner so others can read them. If the Knowlesville church family would like to check out the library, it is open on Sunday mornings during our worship service (11am). Prayer Room Mark 1: 35 says: Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. The Millville campus has a solitary place where you can pray by yourself or with a small group. It is our prayer room and is located in the hallway off the sanctuary. The room has a couple of comfy chairs where you can relax and a small altar for praying. The heat is not kept on very high so turn it up when you use the room and remember to turn it down when you leave. The next time you are looking for a small space to spend some quiet time with God, give the prayer room a try.

13 Inspiration and Daily Prayer It has been suggested that we devote a page to our favorite Bible verses and inspirational sayings. Plus it will contain people we need to pray for. Church family and any others that need prayer. For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 Spiritual Exercises leads to Personal Experience with our Lord resulting in a greater Expectation of our God (Excuses are the Enemy of Exercise) The Habit of Words Words can Hurt and Words can Harm but Words Harnessed by Love will both Help and Heal For the garden of your daily living, plant three rows of peas: 1. Peace of mind 2. Peace of heart 3. Peace of soul Plant four rows of squash: 1. Squash gossip 2. Squash indifference 3. Squash grumbling 4. Squash selfishness Plant four rows of Lettuce: 1. Lettuce be faithful 2. Lettuce be kind 3. Lettuce be patient 4. Lettuce really love one another No garden is complete without turnips: 1. Turnip for meetings 2. Turnip for service 3.
