4 My husband was a blessing sent from heaven above A gift from God, for our family to love A helping hand that was always there A loving friend who would always care And who all of our burdens would share My husband what a blessing. Those guiding hands that lead us To the straight and narrow way. And teaching lips that help us to learn More and more each day. A comfort when things didn t go right An angel watching over us through the night Protecting us with all his might My husband, what a blessing My husband put his family first, Before himself always He always tried to do his best To give us better days By sacrificing each and every day. He set examples for us, all the way. emembering always to serve God and pray. My husband, what a blessing. Good husbands never die. They live with God eternally And one day, when we meet again, how happy We will be, in his footsteps we now go And will follow God and we will show That his work was not in vain. h no, my husband, what a blessing.

5 dward Paul Wortman, Jr. was born on July 21, 1980 to dward and Barbara Moore-Wortman in Newark, NJ. He was affectionately called P.J. by his family and friends. dward grew up in the Newark/rvington area of New Jersey where he was the product of the public school system. After graduating from St. Benedict s Preparatory High School, dward went to Delaware to continue his secondary education. n June 2002, he graduated from Delaware State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. dward indulged in his love of poetry and art and was a gifted writer of countless poems, plays, and scripts. He was an avid reader and humble scholar, with a remarkable gift for retaining information. His thirst for knowledge and desire to see young people reach their potential made his decision to teach a natural choice. dward soon became one of the youngest teachers at Benjamin Banneker School in ast range. He taught elementary grades 3 rd 5 th for nearly ten years and was beloved by his students and parents as the teacher that consistently went the extra mile. He always felt a strong responsibility and concern to those around him. He loved the Lord from a young child and growing up he was a constant fixture at Holy Temple CGC in lizabeth, NJ. He was ordained a Minster in CGC's First cclesiastic Jurisdiction of New Jersey. Young people loved his warm and charasmatic personality and knew he genuinely cared about their issues. dward was kind, generous, articulate, and known to many for his laid-back personality. His steady nature and charming smile compelled a colleague to play matchmaker and introduce him to the woman who would become his wife, Cherie Mends-Cole. After their first date on September 29, 2007, dward knew he met his true love. dward and Cherie were married on November 3, Two of his proudest moments being the birth of their children, van Christopher and Cassidy lyse Wortman and the day he said, Do, to his best friend. The small family was extremely close, enjoyed being together and rarely was they ever apart. dward leaves to mourn: his wife, Cherie; his two children, van and Cassidy; his parents, Superintendent dward Wortman, Sr. and Barbara Moore- Wortman; n-laws, Comfort and Justin; his only sister and brother-in-law, Shanelle and Clarence Washington; nieces, Kyla, Shannon and Cameron; three grandmothers, Verdell Moore, Delores Wortman and Sarah; He also leaves to mourn a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is sorely missed and will be eternally loved. F L C T N S F L F
