The priests are now inviting the children who attend the 9:30 Mass to sit in the front pews on the right hand side (as you look from the pews to the altar). We have been reserving those first 3-4 rows of those pews for the children and we will continue to do this for every 9:30am Mass. The more children and families we have sitting there, the more pews we will reserve. The priests will continue to invite your children to sit there during the homily every Sunday. Please encourage your child to sit there at the homily as it can help them to understand the Mass better. Dear Parishioners, Today, November 11, is the original date for Veterans Day. This holiday was first celebrated as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919, which was the 1 year anniversary of the ending of World War I which ceased at the 11 th hour on the 11 th day of the 11 th month. In his speech on that President Wilson said that this day is a day to be remembered with solemn pride in the heroism for those who died in the country s service. This is now a day that we not only remember those who died in service but for all of those who have served in the armed forces. As Catholics we are a people whose faith is nourished by remembering remembering what God has done for us. It is this faith in God s love for us that moves us to want to receive His sacrificial love and to share it with others. The only way that God s love is communicated is through sacrifice through gift of self. We see this in the prophets, the martyrs, and all those Christians who throughout the millennia have opened themselves to the sacrificial love of God and made their lives a sacrifice to help others love God. As a people of thanksgiving who gather weekly to worship and give thanks for God s sacrificial love, we are attuned to the selfless sacrifices which others make. And so to God we raise our gratitude for all those who have served our country honorably and whose sacrifices have helped to bring about God s kingdom of peace and justice. While our world is far from where we are meant to be, without these sacrifices, we would be farther away than we are. May each of us be inspired and strengthened to make of our lives a living sacrifice each and every time we come to the Lord s altar of sacrifice. In Christ, Fr. Bennett

The Sanctuary Light is given the month of November in loving memory of Robert & Dorothy Bellew Love ~ the Hanley family A SIX-WEEK GRIEF EDUCATION AND SUPPORT GROUP FOR THE NEWLY BEREAVED This group will provide participants with a safe place to remember and reflect on the loss of their loved one while connecting with others who have a shared understanding. Each session will offer education about the grief process and coping strategies to navigate the difficulties and challenges of life after loss. Participants will receive readings and resources to guide their journey through grief and be invited to participate in discussions/ activities as they feel comfortable. Attendees are requested to attend all 6 sessions. Please join us for this wonderful telling of the Christmas story in scripture passages and sacred songs. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony. For Celiac Sufferers At St. Elizabeth s, we have low-gluten hosts available made by Benedictine nuns in Clyde, Missouri, that contain less than 0.01 percent of gluten. Medical research has deemed this level to be safe for most celiac sufferers. Please alert the priest before Mass if you would like to receive Communion in this manner.

5 The Thirtieth Second day in Ordinary Time November 11, 2018 The William T. and Lenore Fidler School of Faith Formation Denise Johnson-Ilacqua, Faith Formation Director Joan Rush Administrative Assistant Thank you to Emmet McElhinney, Alex Kennedy, Dylan Raftery, Abigail Taugher and Will Kelley for their participating in our Family Mass on last Sunday with their teacher Mrs. Taugher and the Youth beautiful choir that accompanied the mass. During the month of November, Faith Formation is collecting donations of new men s and woman s hats and gloves as well as $5.00 Dunkin Donut gift cards for St. Francis House, the largest homeless day shelter located in downtown Boston. St. Francis House serves an average of 500 homeless and struggling men and women a day, 365 days a year. They provide breakfast, lunch, showers, mail services and clothing basically everything needed on a daily basis. Please kindly bring your donations to your faith formation session. Thank you! Please join us on Friday, November 30 for our next evening enjoying the CatholicismSeries. We will meet in the Collaborative 29 St. Mary s 6:00-8:00 for a light meal, and apresentation of Bishop Barron s talk and small group discussion: Episode 7 - Word Made Flesh, True Bread Of Heaven: The Mystery of The Liturgy and The Eucharist. For nearly 40 years, St. Mary of the Hills parishioners have been serving ice cream and desserts to the guests at the Pine Street Inn/Shattuck location in Jamaica Plain. There are six teams who rotate each Friday evening, around 6:00-7:30 PM. Please consider joining a team as a dessert contributor or a server. Desserts can be dropped in the bins on the back porch of the Collaborative office (29 St. Mary's Road) by 6:00 PM. Servers meet there, grab the ice cream and goodies and ride share to the shelter. Parents of Students in Grade 2 please plan to attend a meeting on Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion on Wednesday evening, November 28 at 7:00 in Fr. Curley Hall. While we were here at home. They traveled land and sea, to make sure we stayed safe, to protect and keep us free. Words are not enough; to give them what they re due. On Veteran s Day please thank them for their service to me and you.
