(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Anyone interested in becoming Catholic is invited to become part of the RCIA. This process begins with a journey of faith that culminates in full communion with the Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This process is open to those who are not baptized, to those who have been baptized in other Christian denominations, or to baptized Catholics who have never received catechetical instruction or received Confirmation and First Communion. Please be in church 10 minutes prior to Saturday/Sunday Mass and identify yourselves to one of the Ushers. 4 Page Four St. Stephen School News FALL OPEN HOUSE We are holding our Fall Open House on Sunday, Oct. 23 rd from 10:30am 12:00 pm. All prospective families with children in Grades PreK3 8 th grade are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to meet our faculty and principal and to take a tour of the school. Our tours will be led by students from the Class of 2011 as well as adult alumni. COME VISIT US! PANCAKE BREAKFAST The Knights of Columbus will be holding their annual Fall Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 23 rd from 9am 12pm. Plan on stopping by after Sunday Mass for a delicious breakfast! Adults: $6 Children: $3. 50/50 Raffle There is still time to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets to be pulled at the Fall Social on Saturday, Oct. 15 th. This raffle is being held to benefit the Maintenance of St. Stephen Campus. Tickets are $10 each and are being sold at the Rectory and after all Masses. SEPTEMBER PTA NEWS 1) The PTA Board has been busy this summer planning out this year s events. 2) School families had the opportunity to meet the new board at Back to School Night on Sept. 20 th where they were on hand to welcome our parents. Room parents were also present in each of the classrooms to introduce themselves and answer questions. 3) Sundae Fun day was held on Sept. 25 th to welcome back all students and their families. Ice cream sundaes were enjoyed by over 40 families. 4) The KidsStuff coupon book fundraiser was started on Sept. 20 th, the first fundraiser of the year. Books were sold through the school and to the parishioners after all Masses. 5) The PTA Board would like to thank 2 past PTA presidents who attended their Sept. Board meeting. Mrs. Rosemarie Leone and Mrs. Catherine Broome offered their wisdom and advice on How to run a Successful PTA Event and The Importance of the Connection between School and Parish. 5 Page Five Session 4 of our weekly series: Theology of the Body Lived in the Communion of Persons Session 4: October 9, 2011 Theme of the Week: What does it mean to be fully alive? An explanation of the weekly theme: Just what is life? What does it mean to be alive? We have all heard about the science of cells and DNA and chromosomes. A living thing develops and ages in a continuous system of time. We are finite, locked into time that will end for us all in death. Yet, in the beginning it was not so! Human life has a sacred nature. When God created man from the ground, God smiled and exclaimed, Very good! God himself breathed into the man s nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The breath of life makes us alive in a sacred way! In the beginning, we find the key to help us understand who we are now. God said It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him. Man discovers his Original Solitude. He finds himself alone in the world as a person. He discovers that he alone is aware of himself he is conscious of having been created by God. God casts Adam into a deep sleep, and He creates woman from the side of Adam from Adam s rib. When Adam awakens and sees that Eve was taken from his very body, he exclaims joyfully: This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman. What Adam means is: At last, here is a body that expresses the person! The woman shares equal dignity with man. Man and woman now share in that original solitude: that alone ness with God. Together, the man and woman become the foundation of original unity. We are fully alive when we are in relationship with God and with each other. In communion with others and with Jesus Christ, we have again the possibility of going beyond time, into eternal life because of Jesus mission of redemption. We are truly alive when we live in relationship with others in Christ! True life springs from this simple statement: If everybody is alone as a person, everybody also needs a helper! The Story of the Week: So what does it mean to be fully alive? Have you ever watched in wonder as a child attempts to take its first step? The feet are unsure. The toes touch the floor uncertainly. The entire body wobbles and tries to balance itself. You look to see the loving arms of a parent, or brother, or sister delicately providing living support. You smile, you laugh, and you offer words of encouragement. You see God s creation, and you truly know just what it is to be alive in Christ. General Question: This week, can you help someone in our parish know that they are loved? Family Question: What example are we setting as a family in living a loving relationship with God, our spouse, our children and others? Children s Question: When was the last time you gave someone a hug or a smile to let them know you cared? Do you live what you believe? How do you live your faith? Come, taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
